1 Corinthians 4
1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
こういうわけで、私たちを、キリストのしもべ、また神の奥義の管理者だと考えなさい。
2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
このばあい、管理者には、忠実であることが要求されます。
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
しかし、私にとっては、あなたがたによる判定、あるいは、およそ人間による判決を受けることは、非常に小さなことです。事実、私は自分で自分をさばくことさえしません。
4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
私にはやましいことは少しもありませんが、だからといって、それで無罪とされるのではありません。私をさばく方は主です。
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
ですから、あなたがたは、主が来られるまでは、何についても、先走ったさばきをしてはいけません。主は、やみの中に隠れた事も明るみに出し、心の中のはかりごとも明らかにされます。そのとき、神から各人に対する称賛が届くのです。
6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and [to] Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think [of men] above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
さて、兄弟たち。以上、私は、私自身とアポロに当てはめて、あなたがたのために言って来ました。それは、あなたがたが、私たちの例によって、「書かれていることを越えない。」ことを学ぶため、そして、一方にくみし、他方に反対して高慢にならないためです。
7 For who maketh thee to differ [from another]? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive [it], why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received [it]?
いったいだれが、あなたをすぐれた者と認めるのですか。あなたには、何か、もらったものでないものがあるのですか。もしもらったのなら、なぜ、もらっていないかのように誇るのですか。
8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
あなたがたは、もう満ち足りています。もう豊かになっています。私たち抜きで、王さまになっています。いっそのこと、あなたがたがほんとうに王さまになっていたらよかったのです。そうすれば、私たちも、あなたがたといっしょに王になれたでしょうに。
9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
私は、こう思います。神は私たち使徒を、死罪に決まった者のように、行列のしんがりとして引き出されました。こうして私たちは、御使いにも人々にも、この世の見せ物になったのです。
10 We [are] fools for Christ’s sake, but ye [are] wise in Christ; we [are] weak, but ye [are] strong; ye [are] honourable, but we [are] despised.
私たちはキリストのために愚かな者ですが、あなたがたはキリストにあって賢い者です。私たちは弱いが、あなたがたは強いのです。あなたがたは栄誉を持っているが、私たちは卑しめられています。
11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
今に至るまで、私たちは飢え、渇き、着る物もなく、虐待され、落ち着く先もありません。
12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
また、私たちは苦労して自分の手で働いています。はずかしめられるときにも祝福し、迫害されるときにも耐え忍び、
13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, [and are] the offscouring of all things unto this day.
ののしられるときには、慰めのことばをかけます。今でも、私たちはこの世のちり、あらゆるもののかすです。
14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn [you].
私がこう書くのは、あなたがたをはずかしめるためではなく、愛する私の子どもとして、さとすためです。
15 For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet [have ye] not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
たといあなたがたに、キリストにある養育係が一万人あろうとも、父は多くあるはずがありません。この私が福音によって、キリスト・イエスにあって、あなたがたを生んだのです。
16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
ですから、私はあなたがたに勧めます。どうか、私にならう者となってください。
17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
そのために、私はあなたがたのところへテモテを送りました。テモテは主にあって私の愛する、忠実な子です。彼は、私が至る所のすべての教会で教えているとおりに、キリスト・イエスにある私の生き方を、あなたがたに思い起こさせてくれるでしょう。
18 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
私があなたがたのところへ行くことはあるまいと、思い上がっている人たちがいます。
19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
しかし、主のみこころであれば、すぐにもあなたがたのところへ行きます。そして、思い上がっている人たちの、ことばではなく、力を見せてもらいましょう。
20 For the kingdom of God [is] not in word, but in power.
神の国はことばにはなく、力にあるのです。
21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and [in] the spirit of meekness?
あなたがたはどちらを望むのですか。私はあなたがたのところへむちを持って行きましょうか。それとも、愛と優しい心で行きましょうか。
