2 Corinthians 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy [our] brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

神のみこころによるキリスト・イエスの使徒パウロ、および兄弟テモテから、コリントにある神の教会、ならびにアカヤ全土にいるすべての聖徒たちへ。

2 Grace [be] to you and peace from God our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ.

私たちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安があなたがたの上にありますように。

3 Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

私たちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神、慈愛の父、すべての慰めの神がほめたたえられますように。

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

神は、どのような苦しみのときにも、私たちを慰めてくださいます。こうして、私たちも、自分自身が神から受ける慰めによって、どのような苦しみの中にいる人をも慰めることができるのです。

5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

それは、私たちにキリストの苦難があふれているように、慰めもまたキリストによってあふれているからです。

6 And whether we be afflicted, [it is] for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, [it is] for your consolation and salvation.

もし私たちが苦しみに会うなら、それはあなたがたの慰めと救いのためです。もし私たちが慰めを受けるなら、それもあなたがたの慰めのためで、その慰めは、私たちが受けている苦難と同じ苦難に耐え抜く力をあなたがたに与えるのです。

7 And our hope of you [is] stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so [shall ye be] also of the consolation.

私たちがあなたがたについて抱いている望みは、動くことがありません。なぜなら、あなたがたが私たちと苦しみをともにしているように、慰めをもともにしていることを、私たちは知っているからです。

8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

兄弟たちよ。私たちがアジヤで会った苦しみについて、ぜひ知っておいてください。私たちは、非常に激しい、耐えられないほどの圧迫を受け、ついにいのちさえも危くなり、

9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

ほんとうに、自分の心の中で死を覚悟しました。これは、もはや自分自身を頼まず、死者をよみがえらせてくださる神により頼む者となるためでした。

10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver [us];

ところが神は、これほどの大きな死の危険から、私たちを救い出してくださいました。また将来も救い出してくださいます。なおも救い出してくださるという望みを、私たちはこの神に置いているのです。

11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift [bestowed] upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

あなたがたも祈りによって、私たちを助けて協力してくださるでしょう。それは、多くの人々の祈りにより私たちに与えられた恵みについて、多くの人々が感謝をささげるようになるためです。

12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

私たちがこの世の中で、特にあなたがたに対して、きよさと神から来る誠実さとをもって、人間的な知恵によらず、神の恵みによって行動していることは、私たちの良心のあかしするところであって、これこそ私たちの誇りです。

13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

私たちは、あなたがたへの手紙で、あなたがたが読んで理解できること以外は何も書いていません。そして私は、あなたがたが十分に理解してくれることを望みます。

14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also [are] ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

あなたがたは、ある程度は、私たちを理解しているのですから、私たちの主イエスの日には、あなたがたが私たちの誇りであるように、私たちもあなたがたの誇りであるということを、さらに十分に理解してくださるよう望むのです。

15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

この確信をもって、私は次のような計画を立てました。まず初めにあなたがたのところへ行くことによって、あなたがたが恵みを二度受けられるようにしようとしたのです。

16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

すなわち、あなたがたのところを通ってマケドニヤに行き、そしてマケドニヤから再びあなたがたのところに帰り、あなたがたに送られてユダヤに行きたいと思ったのです。

17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

そういうわけですから、この計画を立てた私が、どうして軽率でありえたでしょう。それとも、私の計画は人間的な計画であって、私にとっては、「しかり、しかり。」は同時に、「否、否。」なのでしょうか。

18 But [as] God [is] true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

しかし、神の真実にかけて言いますが、あなたがたに対する私たちのことばは、「しかり。」と言って、同時に「否。」と言うようなものではありません。

19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, [even] by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

私たち、すなわち、私とシルワノとテモテとが、あなたがたに宣べ伝えた神の子キリスト・イエスは、「しかり。」と同時に「否。」であるような方ではありません。この方には「しかり。」だけがあるのです。

20 For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

神の約束はことごとく、この方において「しかり。」となりました。それで私たちは、この方によって「アーメン。」と言い、神に栄光を帰するのです。

21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, [is] God;

私たちをあなたがたといっしょにキリストのうちに堅く保ち、私たちに油を注がれた方は神です。

22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

神はまた、確認の印を私たちに押し、保証として、御霊を私たちの心に与えてくださいました。

23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

私はこのいのちにかけ、神を証人にお呼びして言います。私がまだコリントへ行かないでいるのは、あなたがたに対する思いやりのためです。

24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

私たちは、あなたがたの信仰を支配しようとする者ではなく、あなたがたの喜びのために働く協力者です。あなたがたは、信仰に堅く立っているからです。
