Psalms 97

1 The Lord reigns! Let the earth be glad, and distant lands be full of joy!

Herren er blitt konge; jorden fryde sig, mange øer glede sig!

2 He is surrounded by clouds and thick darkness; his throne is founded on justice and right.

Skyer og mørke er rundt omkring ham, rettferd og rett er hans trones grunnvoll.

3 Flames proceed him, burning up his enemies on every side.

Ild går foran hans åsyn og setter hans fiender i brand rundt omkring.

4 His flashes of lightning light up the world; the earth watches and trembles.

Hans lyn oplyser jorderike; jorden ser det og bever.

5 The mountains melt like wax in the presence of the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.

Fjellene smelter som voks for Herrens åsyn, for all jordens herres åsyn.

6 The heavens proclaim his goodness; everyone sees his glory.

Himlene kunngjør hans rettferdighet, og alle folkene ser hans ære.

7 All those who worship idols are humiliated, those who are proud of their idols—for all “gods” bow down before him.

Til skamme blir alle de som dyrker utskårne billeder, som roser sig av avguder; tilbed ham, alle guder!

8 Jerusalem hears this and celebrates; all the towns of Judah are happy because of your judgments, Lord.

Sion hører det og gleder sig, og Judas døtre fryder sig over dine dommer, Herre!

9 For you, Lord, are the highest of all, ruling over the whole earth; your position is far above any other god.

For du, Herre, er den Høieste over all jorden, du er såre ophøiet over alle guder.

10 You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of those who are faithful to him, and saves them from the power of wicked people.

I som elsker Herren, hat det onde! Han bevarer sine frommes sjeler; han frir dem ut av de ugudeliges hånd.

11 Light shines on those who do good, giving joy to those who live right.

Lys er utsådd for den rettferdige, og glede for de opriktige av hjertet.

12 Be happy in the Lord, you who do right, and thank him for his holy nature!

Gled eder, I rettferdige i Herren, og pris hans hellige navn!
