ઓ શાસ્ત્રીઓ, ફરોશીઓ, ઢોંગીઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે ફુદીનાનો, સૂવાનો તથા જીરાનો દસમો ભાગ તમે આપો છો; પણ નિયમશાસ્ત્રની અગત્યની વાતો, એટલે ન્યાય, દયા તથા વિશ્વાસ, તે તમે પડતાં મૂક્યાં છે; તમારે આ કરવાં, અને એની સાથે તે પણ પડતાં મૂકવા જોઈતાં ન હતાં.

हे कपटी शास्त्रियो अर फरीसियों, थारे पै धिक्कार सै! थम पुदीने, सौंफ, जीरै का दसमां हिस्सा तो द्यो सो, पर थमनै नियम-कायदा की गहरी बात्तां ताहीं यानिके न्याय, दया, अर वफादारी का तिरस्कार करो सों; थमनै दसमां हिस्सा भी देणा चाहिये पर उन खास बात्तां नै भी नजरअंदाज ना करो।

“हे कपटी शास्त्रियों, और फरीसियों, तुम पर हाय! तुम पोदीने और सौंफ और जीरे का दसवाँ अंश देते हो, परन्तु तुम ने व्यवस्था की गम्भीर बातों अर्थात् न्याय, और दया, और विश्वास को छोड़ दिया है; चाहिये था कि इन्हें भी करते रहते, और उन्हें भी न छोड़ते।
“धिक्कार है तुम पर पाखंडी, फ़रीसियो, शास्त्रियो! तुम पुदीना, सौंफ़ तथा ज़ीरा का दसवां अंश तो अवश्य देते हो किंतु व्यवस्था की कहीं अधिक गंभीर बातों का अर्थात् न्याय, कृपा तथा विश्वास की उपेक्षा करते हो. यही वे बातें हैं जिनका पूरा करना आवश्यक था—दूसरों की अनदेखी किए बिना.

Celakalah kalian guru-guru agama dan orang-orang Farisi! Kalian tukang berpura-pura. Rempah-rempah seperti selasih, adas manis, dan jintan pun, kalian beri sepersepuluhnya kepada Tuhan. Padahal hal-hal yang terpenting dalam hukum-hukum agama, seperti misalnya: Keadilan, belas kasihan, dan kesetiaan, tidak kalian hiraukan. Padahal itulah yang seharusnya kalian lakukan, tanpa melalaikan yang lain-lainnya juga.
Besar sekali bencana yang akan menimpa kalian, hai orang Farisi dan guru-guru agama yang munafik! Kalian menyerahkan perpuluhan mint, adas manis dan jintan, tetapi kalian mengabaikan bagian paling penting dari hukum itu — melakukan baik, menunjukkan pengampunan, dan dapat dipercaya. Ya, kalian memang harus menyerahkan perpuluhan kalian, tetapi jangan lupakan juga hal-hal lain.
Celakalah kamu, hai ahli-ahli Taurat dan orang-orang Farisi, hai kamu orang-orang munafik, sebab persepuluhan dari selasih, adas manis dan jintan kamu bayar, tetapi yang terpenting dalam hukum Taurat kamu abaikan, yaitu: keadilan dan belas kasihan dan kesetiaan. Yang satu harus dilakukan dan yang lain jangan diabaikan.
“Celakalah kalian para ahli Taurat dan orang-orang Farisi! Kamu semuanya munafik! Kamu hanya mengikuti semua peraturan hukum Taurat yang kecil, tetapi lupa melakukan perintah Allah yang paling penting. Misalnya, kamu rajin memberikan persepuluhan ke rumah Allah dari rempah-rempah hasil kebunmu, seperti selasih, adas manis, dan jintan. Tetapi kamu lupa mengikuti perintah Allah yang paling penting, yaitu berbelas kasihan, melakukan yang adil, dan menepati janji-janjimu kepada orang lain. Seharusnya kamu melakukan hal-hal yang paling penting itu, dan jangan melupakan hal-hal yang kecil juga.

禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、汝らは薄荷・蒔蘿・クミンの十分の一を納めて、律法の中にて尤も重き公平と憐憫と忠信とを等閑にす。されど之は行ふべきものなり、而して、彼もまた等閑にすべきものならず。
「あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方はハッカ，イノンド，クミンの十分の一税は納めていながら，律法のもっと重要な事柄，すなわち公正とあわれみと忠実をなおざりにしている。
偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。はっか、いのんど、クミンなどの薬味の十分の一を宮に納めておりながら、律法の中でもっと重要な、公平とあわれみと忠実とを見のがしている。それもしなければならないが、これも見のがしてはならない。
わざわいが来ますぞ。偽善の律法学者、パリサイ人たち。あなたがたは、はっか、いのんど、クミンなどの十分の一を納めているが、律法の中ではるかに重要なもの、すなわち正義もあわれみも誠実もおろそかにしているのです。これこそしなければならないことです。ただし、他のほうもおろそかにしてはいけません。
禍なる哉汝等、僞善なる律法學士ファリザイ人等よ、汝等は薄荷茴香馬芹の十分の一を納めて、而も律法に於て尚重大なる、正義と慈悲と忠實とを遺せり、此事等を為してこそ彼の事をも怠らざるべかりしなれ。
