Ecclesiastes 8:14
There is a vanity which is done on the earth, that there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked. Again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

| فِي الأَرْضِ يَسُودُ بَاطِلٌ: هُنَاكَ صِدِّيقُونَ يَنَالُهُمْ جَزَاءُ أَعْمَالِ الأَشْرَارِ، وَأَشْرَارٌ يَحْظَوْنَ بِثَوَابِ أَعْمَالِ الأَبْرَارِ، فَقُلْتُ: هَذَا أَيْضاً بَاطِلٌ. |

世上有一件虚空的事，就是义人所遭遇的，反照恶人所行的；又有恶人所遭遇的，反照义人所行的。我说，这也是虚空。

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there are righteous persons to whom it happens according to the doing of the ungodly; and there are ungodly men, to whom it happens according to the doing of the just: I said, This is also vanity.

Another thing that [sometimes] happens on this earth is that bad things happen to righteous people, and good things happen to evil people. It is difficult to understand why that happens.
There is another useless vapor—something else that is done on the earth. Things happen to righteous people as they happen to wicked people, and things happen to wicked people as they happen to righteous people. I say that this also is useless vapor.

Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht: daß es Gerechte gibt, welchen nach dem Tun der Gesetzlosen widerfährt, und daß es Gesetzlose gibt, welchen nach dem Tun der Gerechten widerfährt. Ich sagte, daß auch das Eitelkeit sei.
Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht: daß es Gerechte gibt, welchen nach dem Tun der Gesetzlosen widerfährt, und daß es Gesetzlose gibt, welchen nach dem Tun der Gerechten widerfährt. Ich sagte, daß auch das Eitelkeit sei.
Es ist etwas Eitles, das auf Erden geschieht, daß es Fromme giebt, denen es ergeht nach dem Thun der Gottlosen, und daß es Gottlose giebt, denen es ergeht nach dem Thun der Frommen. Ich sprach: auch das ist eitel!
Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht. Es sind Gerechte, denen gehet es, als hätten sie Werke der Gottlosen, und sind Gottlose, denen gehet es, als hätten sie Werke der Gerechten. Ich sprach: Das ist auch eitel.

Da habe ich mir gesagt, daß auch dies nichtig sei.
Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht, daß es Gerechte gibt, welche gleichsam das Schicksal der Gottlosen trifft, und Gottlose, denen es ergeht nach dem Werk der Gerechten. Ich habe gesagt, daß auch das eitel sei.

Υπάρχει ματαιότης, ήτις γίνεται επί της γής· ότι είναι, δίκαιοι εις τους οποίους συμβαίνει κατά τα έργα των ασεβών, και είναι ασεβείς εις τους οποίους συμβαίνει κατά τα έργα των δικαίων· είπα ότι και τούτο ματαιότης.
ἔστιν ματαιότης ἣ πεποίηται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὅτι εἰσὶ δίκαιοι ὅτι φθάνει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡς ποίημα τῶν ἀσεβῶν καὶ εἰσὶν ἀσεβεῖς ὅτι φθάνει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡς ποίημα τῶν δικαίων εἶπα ὅτι καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης
