< Luke 3 >

1 Ní ọdún kẹ́ẹ̀dógún ìjọba Tiberiu Kesari, nígbà tí Pọntiu Pilatu jẹ́ baálẹ̀ Judea, tí Herodu sì jẹ́ tetrarki Galili, Filipi arákùnrin rẹ̀ sì jẹ́ tetrarki Iturea àti ti Trakoniti, Lisania sì jẹ́ tetrarki Abilene,
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 tí Annasi òun Kaiafa ń ṣe olórí àwọn àlùfáà, nígbà náà ni ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run tọ Johanu ọmọ Sekariah wá ní ijù.
in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.
3 Ó sì wá sí gbogbo ilẹ̀ aginjù Jordani, ó ń wàásù ìtẹ̀bọmi ìrònúpìwàdà fún ìmúkúrò ẹ̀ṣẹ̀,
He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.
4 bí a ti kọ ọ́ nínú ìwé ọ̀rọ̀ wòlíì Isaiah pé, “Ohùn ẹni tí ń kígbe ní ijù, ‘Ẹ tún ọ̀nà Olúwa ṣe, ẹ mú ipa ọ̀nà rẹ̀ tọ́.
As it is written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.
5 Gbogbo ọ̀gbun ni a yóò kún, gbogbo òkè ńlá àti òkè kékeré ni a ó tẹ́ pẹẹrẹ. Wíwọ́ ni a ó ṣe ní títọ́, àti ọ̀nà gbọ́ngungbọ̀ngun ni a o sọ di dídán.
Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low, and the crooked will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth.
6 Gbogbo ènìyàn ni yóò sì rí ìgbàlà Ọlọ́run.’”
And all humanity will see the salvation of God.'"
7 Nígbà náà ni ó wí fún ọ̀pọ̀ àwọn ènìyàn tí ó wá láti ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ pé, “Ẹ̀yin ìran paramọ́lẹ̀, ta ni ó kìlọ̀ fún un yín láti sá kúrò nínú ìbínú tí ń bọ̀?
He said therefore to the crowds who went out to be baptized by him, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Nítorí náà kí ẹ̀yin kí ó so èso tí ó yẹ fún ìrònúpìwàdà, kí ẹ má sì ṣe sí í wí nínú ara yín pé, ‘Àwa ní Abrahamu ní baba.’ Kí èmi kí ó wí fún un yín, Ọlọ́run lè gbé ọmọ dìde fún Abrahamu nínú òkúta wọ̀nyí.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say among yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father;' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
9 Àti nísinsin yìí pẹ̀lú, a fi àáké lé gbòǹgbò igi náà, gbogbo igi tí kò bá so èso rere, a óò ge lulẹ̀, a sì wọ jù sínú iná.”
Even now the axe also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire."
10 Àwọn ènìyàn sì ń bi í pé, “Kí ni kí àwa kí ó ṣe?”
The crowds asked him, "What then must we do?"
11 Ó dáhùn ó sì wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹni tí ó bá ní ẹ̀wù méjì, kí ó fi ọ̀kan fún ẹni tí kò ní; ẹni tí ó bá sì ní oúnjẹ, kí ó ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀ pẹ̀lú.”
He answered them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise."
12 Àwọn agbowó òde sì tọ̀ ọ́ wá láti ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀, wọ́n sì bi í pé, “Olùkọ́, kí ni àwa ó ha ṣe?”
Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what must we do?"
13 Ó sì wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ má ṣe fi agbára gbà jù bí a ti rán yín lọ mọ́.”
He said to them, "Collect no more than that which is appointed to you."
14 Àwọn ọmọ-ogun sì béèrè lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ pé, “Àti àwa, kí ni àwa ó ṣe?” Ó sì wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ má ṣe hùwà ipá sí ẹnikẹ́ni, kí ẹ má sì ṣe ka ẹ̀sùn èké sí ẹnikẹ́ni; kí òwò ọ̀yà yín tó yín.”
Soldiers also asked him, saying, "What about us? What must we do?" He said to them, "Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages."
15 Bí àwọn ènìyàn sì ti ń retí, tí gbogbo wọn sì ń rò nínú ara wọn nítorí Johanu, bí òun ni Kristi tàbí òun kọ́;
As the people were in expectation, and all were wondering in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ,
16 Johanu dáhùn ó sì wí fún gbogbo wọn pé, “Lóòótọ́ ni èmi ń fi omi bamitiisi yín, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó lágbára jù mí lọ ń bọ̀, okùn bàtà ẹsẹ̀ ẹni tí èmi kò tó tú, Òun ni yóò fi Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ àti iná bamitiisi yín.
John answered them all, "I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire,
17 Ẹni tí àtẹ rẹ̀ ń bẹ ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀, láti gbá ilẹ̀ ìpakà rẹ̀ mọ́ tó tó, kí ó sì kó alikama rẹ̀ sínú àká; ṣùgbọ́n ìyàngbò ni yóò fi iná àjóòkú sun.”
whose winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
18 Johanu lo oríṣìíríṣìí ọ̀rọ̀ púpọ̀ láti gba àwọn ènìyàn níyànjú àti láti wàásù ìyìnrere fún wọn.
Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,
19 Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà ti Johanu bú Herodu tetrarki, tí ó bá wí nítorí Herodia aya Filipi arákùnrin rẹ̀, àti nítorí ohun búburú gbogbo tí Herodu tí ṣe,
but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,
20 Ó fi èyí parí gbogbo rẹ̀ nígbà tí ó fi Johanu sínú túbú.
added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
21 Nígbà tí a ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi àwọn ènìyàn gbogbo tán, ó sì ṣe, a bamitiisi Jesu pẹ̀lú, bí ó ti ń gbàdúrà, ọ̀run ṣí sílẹ̀,
Now it happened, when all the people were baptized, Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying. The sky was opened,
22 Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ sí orí rẹ̀ ní àwọ̀ àdàbà, ohùn kan sì ti ọ̀run wá, tí ó wí pé, “Ìwọ ni àyànfẹ́ ọmọ mi; ẹni tí inú mi dùn sí gidigidi.”
and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove on him; and a voice came out of the sky, saying "You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased."
