< Luke 1 >

1 Ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn ni ó ti dáwọ́lé títo àwọn nǹkan wọ̀n-ọn-nì jọ lẹ́sẹẹsẹ, èyí tí ó ti múlẹ̀ ṣinṣin láàrín wa,
Since, indeed, many have attempted to set in order a narrative of the things that have been completed among us,
2 àní gẹ́gẹ́ bí àwọn ìránṣẹ́ ọ̀rọ̀ náà, tí ó ṣe ojú wọn láti ìbẹ̀rẹ̀ ti fi lé wa lọ́wọ́.
just as they have been handed on to those of us who from the beginning saw the same and were ministers of the word,
3 Nítorí náà, ó sì yẹ fún èmi pẹ̀lú, láti kọ̀wé sí ọ lẹ́sẹẹsẹ bí mo ti wádìí ohun gbogbo fínní fínní sí láti ìpilẹ̀ṣẹ̀, Teofilu ọlọ́lá jùlọ,
so it seemed good to me also, having diligently followed everything from the beginning, to write to you, in an orderly manner, most excellent Theophilus,
4 kí ìwọ kí ó le mọ òtítọ́ ohun wọ̀n-ọn-nì, tí a ti kọ́ ọ.
so that you might know the truthfulness of those words by which you have been instructed.
5 Nígbà ọjọ́ Herodu ọba Judea, àlùfáà kan wà, láti ìran Abijah, orúkọ rẹ̀ a máa jẹ́ Sekariah: aya rẹ̀ sì ṣe ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ọmọbìnrin Aaroni, orúkọ rẹ̀ a sì máa jẹ́ Elisabeti.
There was, in the days of Herod, king of Judea, a certain priest named Zechariah, of the section of Abijah, and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 Àwọn méjèèjì sì ṣe olódodo níwájú Ọlọ́run, wọ́n ń rìn ní gbogbo òfin àti ìlànà Olúwa ní àìlẹ́gàn.
Now they were both just before God, progressing in all of the commandments and the justifications of the Lord without blame.
7 Ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò ní ọmọ, nítorí tí Elisabeti yàgàn; àwọn méjèèjì sì di arúgbó.
And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both had become advanced in years.
8 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí ó ń ṣe iṣẹ́ àlùfáà níwájú Ọlọ́run ni àkókò tirẹ̀.
Then it happened that, when he was exercising the priesthood before God, in the order of his section,
9 Bí ìṣe àwọn àlùfáà, ipa tirẹ̀ ni láti máa fi tùràrí jóná, nígbà tí ó bá wọ inú tẹmpili Olúwa lọ.
according to the custom of the priesthood, the lot fell so that he would offer incense, entering into the temple of the Lord.
10 Gbogbo ìjọ àwọn ènìyàn sì ń gbàdúrà lóde ní àkókò sísun tùràrí.
And the entire multitude of the people was praying outside, at the hour of incense.
11 Angẹli Olúwa kan sì fi ara hàn án, ó dúró ní apá ọ̀tún pẹpẹ tùràrí.
Then there appeared to him an Angel of the Lord, standing at the right of the altar of incense.
12 Nígbà tí Sekariah sì rí i, orí rẹ̀ wú, ẹ̀rù sì bà á.
And upon seeing him, Zechariah was disturbed, and fear fell over him.
13 Ṣùgbọ́n angẹli náà wí fún un pé, “Má bẹ̀rù, Sekariah: nítorí tí àdúrà rẹ gbà; Elisabeti aya rẹ yóò sì bí ọmọkùnrin kan fún ọ, ìwọ ó sì sọ orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Johanu.
But the Angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth shall bear a son to you. And you shall call his name John.
14 Òun yóò sì jẹ́ ayọ̀ àti ìdùnnú fún ọ, ènìyàn púpọ̀ yóò sì yọ̀ sí ìbí rẹ.
And there will be joy and exultation for you, and many will rejoice in his nativity.
15 Nítorí òun ó pọ̀ níwájú Olúwa, kì yóò sì mu ọtí wáìnì, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kì yóò sì mu ọtí líle; yóò sì kún fún Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ àní láti inú ìyá rẹ̀ wá.
For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
16 Òun ó sì yí ènìyàn púpọ̀ padà nínú àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run wọn.
And he will convert many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 Ẹ̀mí àti agbára Elijah ni Olúwa yóò sì fi ṣáájú rẹ̀ lọ, láti pa ọkàn àwọn baba dà sí ti àwọn ọmọ, àti ti àwọn aláìgbọ́ràn sí ọgbọ́n àwọn olóòtítọ́; kí ó le pèsè àwọn ènìyàn tí a múra sílẹ̀ de Olúwa.”
And he will go before him with the spirit and power of Elijah, so that he may turn the hearts of the fathers to the sons, and the incredulous to the prudence of the just, so as to prepare for the Lord a completed people.”
18 Sekariah sì wí fún angẹli náà pé, “Àmì wo ni èmi ó fi mọ èyí? Èmi sá ti di àgbà, àti Elisabeti aya mi sì di arúgbó.”
And Zechariah said to the Angel: “How may I know this? For I am elderly, and my wife is advanced in years.”
19 Angẹli náà sì dáhùn ó wí fún un pé, “Èmi ni Gabrieli, tí máa ń dúró níwájú Ọlọ́run; èmi ni a rán wá láti sọ fún ọ, àti láti mú ìròyìn ayọ̀ wọ̀nyí fún ọ wá.
And in response, the Angel said to him: “I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I have been sent to speak to you, and to proclaim these things to you.
20 Sì kíyèsi i, ìwọ ó yadi, ìwọ kì yóò sì le fọhùn, títí ọjọ́ náà tí nǹkan wọ̀nyí yóò fi ṣẹ, nítorí ìwọ kò gba ọ̀rọ̀ mi gbọ́ tí yóò ṣẹ ní àkókò wọn.”
And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak, until the day on which these things shall be, because you have not believed my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.”
21 Àwọn ènìyàn sì ń dúró de Sekariah, ẹnu sì yà wọ́n nítorí tí ó pẹ́ nínú tẹmpili.
And the people were waiting for Zechariah. And they wondered why he was being delayed in the temple.
22 Nígbà tí ó sì jáde wá, òun kò le bá wọn sọ̀rọ̀. Wọn sì kíyèsi wí pé ó ti rí ìran nínú tẹmpili, ó sì ń ṣe àpẹẹrẹ sí wọn, nítorí tí ó yadi.
Then, when he came out, he was unable to speak to them. And they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, but he remained mute.
23 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí ọjọ́ iṣẹ́ ìsìn rẹ̀ pé, ó lọ sí ilé rẹ̀.
And it happened that, after the days of his office were completed, he went away to his house.
24 Lẹ́yìn èyí ni Elisabeti aya rẹ̀ lóyún, ó sì fi ara rẹ̀ pamọ́ ní oṣù márùn-ún,
Then, after those days, his wife Elizabeth conceived, and she hid herself for five months, saying:
25 Ó sì wí pé, “Báyìí ni Olúwa ṣe fún mi ní ọjọ́ tí ó síjú wò mí, láti mú ẹ̀gàn mi kúrò láàrín àwọn ènìyàn.”
“For the Lord did this for me, at the time when he decided to take away my reproach among men.”
26 Ní oṣù kẹfà Ọlọ́run sì rán angẹli Gabrieli sí ìlú kan ní Galili, tí à ń pè ní Nasareti,
Then, in the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent by God, to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.
28 Angẹli náà sì tọ̀ ọ́ wá, ó ní, “Àlàáfíà fun ọ, ìwọ ẹni tí a kọjú sí ṣe ní oore, Olúwa ń bẹ pẹ̀lú rẹ.”
And upon entering, the Angel said to her: “Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.”
29 Ṣùgbọ́n ọkàn Maria kò lélẹ̀ nítorí ọ̀rọ̀ náà, ó sì rò nínú ara rẹ̀ pé, irú kíkí kín ni èyí.
And when she had heard this, she was disturbed by his words, and she considered what kind of greeting this might be.
30 Ṣùgbọ́n angẹli náà wí fún un pé, “Má bẹ̀rù, Maria, nítorí ìwọ ti rí ojúrere lọ́dọ̀ Ọlọ́run.
And the Angel said to her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace with God.
31 Ìwọ yóò lóyún nínú rẹ, ìwọ ó sì bí ọmọkùnrin kan, ìwọ ó sì pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Jesu.
Behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and you shall bear a son, and you shall call his name: JESUS.
32 Òun ó pọ̀, ọmọ Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ ni a ó sì máa pè é, Olúwa Ọlọ́run yóò sì fi ìtẹ́ Dafidi baba rẹ̀ fún.
He will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father.
33 Yóò sì jẹ ọba lórí ilé Jakọbu títí láé; ìjọba rẹ̀ kì yóò sì ní ìpẹ̀kun.” (aiōn g165)
And he will reign in the house of Jacob for eternity. And his kingdom shall have no end.” (aiōn g165)
34 Nígbà náà ni Maria béèrè lọ́wọ́ angẹli náà pé, “Èyí yóò ha ti ṣe rí bẹ́ẹ̀, nígbà tí èmi kò tí ì mọ ọkùnrin.”
Then Mary said to the Angel, “How shall this be done, since I do not know man?”
35 Angẹli náà sì dáhùn ó sì wí fún un pé, “Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ yóò tọ̀ ọ́ wá, agbára Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ yóò síji bò ọ́. Nítorí náà ohun mímọ́ tí a ó ti inú rẹ bí, Ọmọ Ọlọ́run ni a ó máa pè é.
And in response, the Angel said to her: “The Holy Spirit will pass over you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. And because of this also, the Holy One who will be born of you shall be called the Son of God.
36 Sì kíyèsi i, Elisabeti ìbátan rẹ náà yóò sì ní ọmọkùnrin kan ní ògbólógbòó rẹ̀, èyí sì ni oṣù kẹfà fún ẹni tí à ń pè ní àgàn.
And behold, your cousin Elizabeth has herself also conceived a son, in her old age. And this is the sixth month for her who is called barren.
37 Nítorí kò sí ohun tí Ọlọ́run kò le ṣe.”
For no word will be impossible with God.”
38 Maria sì dáhùn wí pé, “Wò ó ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa; kí ó rí fún mi gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ.” Angẹli náà sì fi í sílẹ̀ lọ.
Then Mary said: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.” And the Angel departed from her.
39 Ní àkókò náà ni Maria sì dìde, ó lọ kánkán sí ilẹ̀ òkè, sí ìlú kan ní Judea;
And in those days, Mary, rising up, traveled quickly into the hill country, to a city of Judah.
40 Ó sì wọ ilé Sekariah lọ ó sì kí Elisabeti.
And she entered into the house of Zechariah, and she greeted Elizabeth.
41 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí Elisabeti gbọ́ kíkí Maria, ọlẹ̀ sọ nínú rẹ̀; Elisabeti sì kún fún Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́,
And it happened that, as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 Ó sì ké ní ohùn rara, ó sì wí pé, “Alábùkún fún ni ìwọ nínú àwọn obìnrin, alábùkún fún sì ni ọmọ tí ìwọ yóò bí.
And she cried out with a loud voice and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
43 Èéṣe tí èmi fi rí irú ojúrere yìí, tí ìyá Olúwa mi ìbá fi tọ̀ mí wá?
And how does this concern me, so that the mother of my Lord would come to me?
44 Sá wò ó, bí ohùn kíkí rẹ ti bọ́ sí mi ní etí, ọlẹ̀ sọ nínú mi fún ayọ̀.
For behold, as the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
45 Alábùkún fún sì ni ẹni tí ó gbàgbọ́, nítorí nǹkan wọ̀nyí tí a ti sọ fún un láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa wá yóò ṣẹ.”
And blessed are you who believed, for the things that were spoken to you by the Lord shall be accomplished.”
46 Maria sì dáhùn, ó ní: “Ọkàn mi yin Olúwa lógo.
And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord.
47 Ẹ̀mí mi sì yọ̀ sí Ọlọ́run Olùgbàlà mi.
And my spirit leaps for joy in God my Savior.
48 Nítorí tí ó síjú wo ìwà ìrẹ̀lẹ̀ ọmọbìnrin ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀. Sá wò ó, láti ìsinsin yìí lọ gbogbo ìran ènìyàn ni yóò máa pè mí ní alábùkún fún.
For he has looked with favor on the humility of his handmaid. For behold, from this time, all generations shall call me blessed.
49 Nítorí ẹni tí ó ní agbára ti ṣe ohun tí ó tóbi fún mi; Mímọ́ sì ni orúkọ rẹ̀.
For he who is great has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
50 Àánú rẹ̀ sì ń bẹ fún àwọn tí ó bẹ̀rù rẹ̀, láti ìrandíran.
And his mercy is from generation to generations for those who fear him.
51 Ó ti fi agbára hàn ní apá rẹ̀; o ti tú àwọn onígbèéraga ká ní ìrònú ọkàn wọn.
He has accomplished powerful deeds with his arm. He has scattered the arrogant in the intentions of their heart.
52 Ó ti mú àwọn alágbára kúrò lórí ìtẹ́ wọn, o sì gbé àwọn onírẹ̀lẹ̀ lékè.
He has deposed the powerful from their seat, and he has exalted the humble.
53 Ó ti fi ohun tí ó dára kún àwọn tí ebi ń pa ó sì rán àwọn ọlọ́rọ̀ padà ní òfo.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 Ó ti ran Israẹli ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́, ní ìrántí àánú rẹ̀;
He has taken up his servant Israel, mindful of his mercy,
55 sí Abrahamu àti àwọn ìran rẹ̀ láéláé, baba wa, àti bí ó ti sọ fún àwọn baba wa.” (aiōn g165)
just as he spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and to his offspring forever.” (aiōn g165)
56 Maria sì jókòó tì Elisabeti níwọ̀n oṣù mẹ́ta, ó sì padà lọ sí ilé rẹ̀.
Then Mary stayed with her for about three months. And she returned to her own house.
57 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ Elisabeti pé tí yóò bí; ó sì bí ọmọkùnrin kan.
Now the time for Elizabeth to give birth arrived, and she brought forth a son.
58 Àwọn aládùúgbò, àti àwọn ìbátan rẹ̀ gbọ́ bí Olúwa ti fi àánú ńlá hàn fún un, wọ́n sì bá a yọ̀.
And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and so they congratulated her.
59 Ó sì ṣe, ní ọjọ́ kẹjọ wọ́n wá láti kọ ọmọ náà nílà; wọ́n sì fẹ́ sọ orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Sekariah, gẹ́gẹ́ bí orúkọ baba rẹ̀.
And it happened that, on the eighth day, they arrived to circumcise the boy, and they called him by his father’s name, Zechariah.
60 Ìyá rẹ̀ sì dáhùn, ó ní, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́! Johanu ni a ó pè é.”
And in response, his mother said: “Not so. Instead, he shall be called John.”
61 Wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Kò sí ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ará rẹ̀ tí à ń pè ní orúkọ yìí.”
And they said to her, “But there is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”
62 Wọ́n sì ṣe àpẹẹrẹ sí baba rẹ̀, bí ó ti ń fẹ́ kí a pè é.
Then they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him to be called.
63 Ó sì béèrè fún wàláà, ó sì kọ ọ wí pé, “Johanu ni orúkọ rẹ̀.” Ẹnu sì ya gbogbo wọn.
And requesting a writing tablet, he wrote, saying: “His name is John.” And they all wondered.
64 Ẹnu rẹ̀ sì ṣí lọ́gán, okùn ahọ́n rẹ̀ sì tú, ó sì sọ̀rọ̀, ó sì ń yin Ọlọ́run.
Then, at once, his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosened, and he spoke, blessing God.
65 Ẹ̀rù sì ba gbogbo àwọn tí ń bẹ ní agbègbè wọn, a sì ròyìn gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí ká gbogbo ilẹ̀ òkè Judea.
And fear fell upon all of their neighbors. And all these words were made known throughout all the hill country of Judea.
66 Ó sì jẹ́ ohun ìyanu fún gbogbo àwọn tí ó gbọ́ nípa rẹ̀, wọ́n sì tò ó sínú ọkàn wọn, wọ́n ń wí pé, “Irú-ọmọ kín ni èyí yóò jẹ́?” Nítorí tí ọwọ́ Olúwa wà pẹ̀lú rẹ̀.
And all those who heard it stored it up in their heart, saying: “What do you think this boy will be?” And indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 Sekariah baba rẹ̀ sì kún fún Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́, ó sì sọtẹ́lẹ̀, ó ní:
And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit. And he prophesied, saying:
68 “Olùbùkún ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli; nítorí tí ó ti bojú wò, tí ó sì ti dá àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ nídè,
“Blessed is the Lord God of Israel. For he has visited and has wrought the redemption of his people.
69 Ó sì ti gbé ìwo ìgbàlà sókè fún wa ní ilé Dafidi ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀;
And he has raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of David his servant,
70 (bí ó ti sọtẹ́lẹ̀ láti ẹnu àwọn wòlíì rẹ̀ mímọ́ tipẹ́tipẹ́), (aiōn g165)
just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, who are from ages past: (aiōn g165)
71 Pé, a ó gbà wá là lọ́wọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá wa àti lọ́wọ́ àwọn tí ó kórìíra wá.

so that, having been freed from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear,
75 ni ìwà mímọ́ àti ní òdodo níwájú rẹ̀, ní ọjọ́ ayé wa gbogbo.
in holiness and in justice before him, throughout all our days.
76 “Àti ìwọ, ọmọ mi, wòlíì Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ ni a ó máa pè ọ́: nítorí ìwọ ni yóò ṣáájú Olúwa láti tún ọ̀nà rẹ̀ ṣe;
And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High. For you will go before the face of the Lord: to prepare his ways,
77 láti fi ìmọ̀ ìgbàlà fún àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ fún ìmúkúrò ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wọn,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people for the remission of their sins,
78 nítorí ìyọ́nú Ọlọ́run wà; nípa èyí tí ìlà-oòrùn láti òkè wá bojú wò wá,
through the heart of the mercy of our God, by which, descending from on high, he has visited us,
79 Láti fi ìmọ́lẹ̀ fún àwọn tí ó jókòó ní òkùnkùn àti ní òjìji ikú, àti láti fi ẹsẹ̀ wa lé ọ̀nà àlàáfíà.”
to illuminate those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to direct our feet in the way of peace.”
80 Ọmọ náà sì dàgbà, ó sì le ní ọkàn, ó sì ń gbé ní ijù títí ó fi di ọjọ́ ìfihàn rẹ̀ fún Israẹli.
And the child grew, and he was strengthened in spirit. And he was in the wilderness, until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
