< Joshua 7 >

But the people of Israel acted unfaithfully regarding the things that were set apart for destruction. Achan son of Karmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, took some things that were set apart for destruction, and Yahweh's anger burned against the people of Israel.
2 Joṣua rán àwọn ọkùnrin láti Jeriko lọ sí Ai, tí ó súnmọ́ Beti-Afeni ní ìlà-oòrùn Beteli, ó sì sọ fún wọn pé, “Ẹ gòkè lọ kí ẹ sì ṣe ayọ́lẹ̀wò.” Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwọn arákùnrin náà lọ, wọ́n sì yọ́ Ai wò.
Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which was near Beth Aven, east of Bethel. He said to them, “Go up and spy out the land.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.
3 Nígbà tí wọ́n padà sí ọ̀dọ̀ Joṣua, wọ́n wí pé, “Kì í ṣe gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn ni ó ni láti gòkè lọ bá Ai jà. Rán ẹgbẹ̀rún méjì tàbí ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́ta ọkùnrin láti gbà á, kí ó má ṣe dá gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn ní agara, nítorí ìba ọkùnrin díẹ̀ ní ó wà níbẹ̀.”
When they returned to Joshua, they said to him, “Do not send all the people up to Ai. Send only two or three thousand men to go up and attack Ai. Do not make all the people labor in battle, for they are few in number.”
4 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ní àwọn bí ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́ta ọkùnrin lọ; ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ọkùnrin Ai lé wọn sá.
So only about three thousand men went up from the army, but these ran away from the men of Ai.
5 Àwọn ènìyàn Ai sì pa àwọn bí mẹ́rìndínlógójì nínú wọn. Wọ́n sì ń lépa àwọn ará Israẹli láti ibodè ìlú títí dé Ṣebarimu, wọ́n sì pa àwọn tí ń sọ̀kalẹ̀. Àyà àwọn ènìyàn náà sì já, ọkàn wọn sì pami.
The men of Ai killed about thirty-six men as they pursued them from the city gate as far as to the stone quarries, and they killed them as they were going down a hill. The hearts of the people melted and became like water.
6 Joṣua sì fa aṣọ rẹ̀ ya, ó sì dojúbolẹ̀ níwájú àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa títí di àṣálẹ́. Àwọn àgbà Israẹli sì ṣe bákan náà, wọ́n ku eruku sí orí wọn.
Then Joshua tore his garments. He and the elders of Israel put dust on their heads and lay facedown on the ground in front of the ark of Yahweh, remaining there until evening.
7 Joṣua sì wí pé, “Háà, Olúwa Olódùmarè, nítorí kín ni ìwọ ṣe mú àwọn ènìyàn yìí kọjá Jordani, láti fi wọ́n lé àwọn ará Amori lọ́wọ́, láti pa wọn run? Àwa ìbá mọ̀ kí a dúró ní òdìkejì Jordani?
Then Joshua said, “Ah, Yahweh Lord, why have you brought this people across the Jordan at all? To give us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we made a different decision and we had stayed on the other side of the Jordan!
8 Olúwa, kín ni èmi yóò sọ nísinsin yìí tí Israẹli sì ti sá níwájú ọ̀tá a rẹ̀?
Lord, what can I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
9 Àwọn Kenaani àti àwọn ènìyàn ìlú tí ó kù náà yóò gbọ́ èyí, wọn yóò sì yí wa ká, wọn yóò sì ké orúkọ wa kúrò ní ayé. Kí ni ìwọ ó ha ṣe fún orúkọ ńlá à rẹ?”
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it. They will surround us and make the people of the earth forget our name. What will you do for your great name?”
10 Olúwa sì sọ fún Joṣua pé, “Dìde! Kín ni ìwọ ń ṣe tí ó fi dojúbolẹ̀?
Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying there on your face?
11 Israẹli ti ṣẹ̀, wọ́n sì ti ba májẹ̀mú mi jẹ́, èyí tí mo pàṣẹ fún wọn pé kí wọn pamọ́. Wọ́n ti mú nínú ohun ìyàsọ́tọ̀, wọ́n ti jí, wọ́n pa irọ́, wọ́n ti fi wọ́n sí ara ohun ìní wọn.
Israel has sinned. They have broken my covenant which I commanded them. They have stolen some of the things that were set apart. They have stolen and then also hidden their sin by putting what they have taken among their own belongings.
12 Ìdí nì èyí tí àwọn ará Israẹli kò fi lè dúró níwájú àwọn ọ̀tá wọn; wọ́n yí ẹ̀yìn wọn padà, wọ́n sì sálọ níwájú ọ̀tá a wọn nítorí pé àwọn gan an ti di ẹni ìparun. Èmi kì yóò wà pẹ̀lú u yín mọ́, bí kò ṣe pé ẹ̀yin pa ohun ìyàsọ́tọ̀ run kúrò ní àárín yín.
As a result, the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turned their backs from their enemies because they themselves have been set apart for destruction. I will not be with you any more unless you destroy the things that should have been destroyed, but are still among you.
13 “Lọ, ya àwọn ènìyàn náà sí mímọ́. Sọ fún wọn pé, ‘Ẹ ya ara yín sí mímọ́ fún ọ̀la, nítorí báyìí ni Olúwa, Ọlọ́run Israẹli wí, ohun ìyàsọ́tọ̀ kan ń bẹ ní àárín yín, Israẹli. Ẹ̀yin kì yóò lè dúró níwájú àwọn ọ̀tá a yín títí ẹ̀yin yóò fi mú kúrò.
Get up! Consecrate the people to me and say to them, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow. For Yahweh, the God of Israel says, “There are things set apart to be destroyed that are still among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove from among you all the things that were set apart to be destroyed.”
14 “‘Ní òwúrọ̀, kí ẹ mú ará yín wá síwájú ní ẹ̀yà kọ̀ọ̀kan. Ẹ̀yà tí Olúwa bá mú yóò wá sí iwájú ní agbo ilé kọ̀ọ̀kan, agbo ilé tí Olúwa bá mú yóò wá sí iwájú ní ìdílé kọ̀ọ̀kan, ìdílé tí Olúwa bá sì mú yóò wá sí iwájú ní ẹni kọ̀ọ̀kan.
In the morning, you must present yourselves by your tribes. The tribe that Yahweh selects will come near by their clans. The clan that Yahweh selects must come near by each household. The household that Yahweh selects must come near one by one.
15 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí a bá ká mọ́ pẹ̀lú ohun ìyàsọ́tọ̀ náà, a ó fi iná pa á run, pẹ̀lú gbogbo ohun tí ó ní. Ó ti ba májẹ̀mú Olúwa jẹ́, ó sì ti ṣe nǹkan ìtìjú ní Israẹli!’”
It will happen that the one who is selected and who has those things that were set apart for destruction, he will be burned, he and all he has, because he has broken the covenant of Yahweh and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.'”
16 Ní kùtùkùtù òwúrọ̀ ọjọ́ kejì, Joṣua mú Israẹli wá síwájú ní ẹ̀yà kọ̀ọ̀kan, a sì mú ẹ̀yà Juda.
So, Joshua got up early in the morning and brought Israel near, tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was selected.
17 Àwọn agbo ilé e Juda wá sí iwájú, ó sì mú agbo ilé Sera. Ó sì mú agbo ilé Sera wá síwájú ní ìdílé kọ̀ọ̀kan, a sì mú ìdílé Sabdi.
Joshua brought the clans of Judah near, and the clan of the Zerahites was selected. He brought near the clan of the Zerahites person by person, and Zabdi was selected.
18 Joṣua sì mú ìdílé Simri wá síwájú ní ọkùnrin kọ̀ọ̀kan, a sì mú Akani ọmọ Karmi, ọmọ Sabdi, ọmọ Sera ti ẹ̀yà Juda.
He brought Zabdi's household near, person by person, and Achan son of Karmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, was selected.
Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, tell the truth before Yahweh, the God of Israel, and give your confession to him. Please tell me what you have done. Do not hide it from me.”
20 Akani sì dáhùn pé, “Òtítọ́ ni! Mo ti ṣẹ̀ sí Olúwa, Ọlọ́run Israẹli. Nǹkan tí mo ṣe nìyìí,
Achan answered Joshua, “Truly, I have sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel. This is what I did:
21 nígbà tí mo rí ẹ̀wù Babeli kan tí ó dára nínú ìkógun, àti igba ṣékélì fàdákà àti odindi wúrà olóṣùnwọ́n àádọ́ta ṣékélì, mo ṣe ojúkòkòrò wọn mo sì mú wọn. Mo fi wọ́n pamọ́ ní abẹ́ àgọ́ mi àti fàdákà ní abẹ́ rẹ̀.”
When I saw among the plunder a beautiful coat from Babylon, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I desired them and took them. They are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, and the silver is under it.”
22 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Joṣua ran àwọn òjíṣẹ́, wọ́n sì sáré wọ inú àgọ́ náà, ó sì wà níbẹ̀, a sì fi pamọ́ nínú àgọ́ ọ rẹ̀, àti fàdákà ní abẹ́ ẹ rẹ̀.
Joshua sent messengers, who ran to the tent and there were the things. When they looked, they found them hidden in his own tent, and the silver under them.
23 Wọ́n sì mú àwọn nǹkan náà jáde láti inú àgọ́ rẹ̀, wọ́n mú wọn wá fún Joṣua àti gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Israẹli, wọ́n sì fi wọ́n lélẹ̀ níwájú Olúwa.
They took the items from the middle of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the people of Israel. They poured them out before Yahweh.
24 Nígbà náà ni Joṣua pẹ̀lú gbogbo Israẹli, mú Akani ọmọ Sera, fàdákà, ẹ̀wù àti wúrà tí a dà, àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ ọkùnrin àti obìnrin, màlúù rẹ̀, kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ àti àgùntàn àgọ́ rẹ̀ àti gbogbo ohun tí ó ni, wọ́n sì kó wọn lọ sí ibi àfonífojì Akori.
Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, the coat, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them up to the Valley of Achor.
25 Joṣua sì wí pé, “Èéṣe tí ìwọ mú wàhálà yìí wá sí orí wa? Olúwa yóò mú ìpọ́njú wá sí orí ìwọ náà lónìí.” Nígbà náà ni gbogbo Israẹli sọ ọ́ ní òkúta pa, lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí wọ́n sọ àwọn tókù ní òkúta pa tán, wọ́n sì jó wọn níná.
Then Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones. Then they stoned the rest with stones and burned them with fire.
26 Wọ́n sì kó òkìtì òkúta ńlá lé Akani lórí títí di òní yìí. Nígbà náà ní Olúwa sì yí ìbínú gbígbóná rẹ̀ padà. Nítorí náà ni a ṣe ń pe orúkọ ibẹ̀ ní àfonífojì Akori láti ìgbà náà.
They set up over him a great heap of stones that is here until this day. Yahweh turned away his burning anger. Therefore the name of the place is the Valley of Achor until this present day.
