Châm Ngôn 9
1 Sự khôn ngoan đã xây dựng nhà mình; Tạc thành bảy cây trụ của người;
Wisdom has built a house for herself, and set up seven pillars.
2 Giết các con thú mình, pha rượu nho mình, Và dọn bàn tiệc mình rồi.
She has killed her beasts; she has mingled her wine in a bowl, and prepared her table.
3 Người đã sai các tớ gái mình đi; Ở trên các nơi cao của thành người la rằng:
She has sent forth her servants, calling with a loud proclamation to the feast, saying,
4 Ai ngu dốt, hãy rút vào đấy; Với kẻ thiếu trí hiểu, sự khôn ngoan nói rằng:
Whoso is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says,
5 Hãy đến ăn bánh của ta, Và uống rượu ta đã pha lộn.
Come, eat of my bread, and drink wine which I have mingled for you.
6 Khá bỏ sự ngây dại đi, thì sẽ được sống; Hãy đi theo con đường thông sáng.
Leave folly, that ye may reign for ever; and seek wisdom, and improve understanding by knowledge.
7 Ai trách dạy kẻ nhạo báng mắc phải điều sỉ nhục, Ai quở kẻ hung ác bị điếm ố.
He that reproves evil [men] shall get dishonour to himself; and he that rebukes an ungodly [man] shall disgrace himself.
8 Chớ trách kẻ nhạo báng, e nó ghét con; Hãy trách người khôn ngoan, thì người sẽ yêu mến con.
Rebuke not evil [men], lest they should hate thee: rebuke a wise [man], and he will love thee.
9 Hãy khuyên giáo người khôn ngoan, thì người sẽ được nên khôn ngoan hơn; Khá dạy dỗ người công bình, thì người sẽ thêm tri thức nữa.
Give an opportunity to a wise [man], and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more [instruction].
10 Kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va, ấy là khởi đầu sự khôn ngoan; Sự nhìn biết Ðấng Thánh, đó là sự thông sáng.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the counsel of saints is understanding: for to know the law is [the character] of a sound mind.
11 Vì nhờ ta, các ngày con sẽ được thêm nhiều lên, Và các năm tuổi con sẽ đặng gia tăng.
For in this way thou shalt live long, and years of thy life shall be added to thee.
12 Nếu con khôn ngoan, thì có ích cho chính mình con; Nếu con nhạo báng, tất một mình con phải gánh lấy.
Son, if thou be wise for thyself, thou shalt also be wise for thy neighbours; and if thou shouldest prove wicked, thou alone wilt bear the evil. He that stays himself upon falsehoods, attempts to rule the winds, and the same will pursue birds in their fight: for he has forsaken the ways of his own vineyard, and he has caused the axles of his own husbandry to go astray; and he goes through a dry desert, and a [land] appointed to drought, and he gathers barrenness with his hands.
13 Ðờn bà điên cuồng hay la lối, Nàng là ngu muội chẳng biết chi cả.
A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty, comes to want a morsel.
14 Nàng ngồi nơi cửa nhà mình, Trên một cái ghế tại nơi cao của thành,
She sits at the doors of her house, on a seat openly in the streets,
15 Ðặng kêu gọi những kẻ đi đường, Tức những kẻ đi thẳng đường mình mà rằng:
calling to passers by, and to those that are going right on their ways;
16 Ai ngu dốt hãy rút vào đây; Và nàng nói với kẻ thiếu trí hiểu rằng:
[saying], Whoso is most senseless of you, let him turn aside to me; and I exhort those that want prudence, saying,
17 Nước ăn cắp lấy làm ngọt ngào, Bánh ăn vụng là ngon thay.
Take and enjoy secret bread, and the sweet water of theft.
