1 Năm thứ mười lăm đời Sê-sa Ti-be-rơ, khi Bôn-xơ Phi-lát làm quan tổng đốc xứ Giu-đê, Hê-rốt làm vua chư hầu xứ Ga-li-lê, Phi-líp em vua ấy làm vua chư hầu xứ Y-tu-rê và tỉnh Tra-cô-nít, Ly-sa-ni-a làm vua chư hầu xứ A-by-len,
In the fiftenthe yeare of the raygne of Tiberius the Emperoure Pontius Pylate beinge leftenaut of Iurie and Herode beinge Tetrach of Galile and his brother Philip Tetrach in Iturea and in the region of Traconites and Lysanias the Tetrach of Abyline
2 An-ne và Cai-phe làm thầy cả thượng phẩm, thì có lời Ðức Chúa Trời truyền cho Giăng, con Xa-cha-ri, ở nơi đồng vắng.
when Anna and Cayphas were the hye prestes: the worde of God came vnto Iohn ye sonne of zacharias in the wildernes.
3 Giăng bèn dạo qua hết thảy miền lân cận sông Giô-đanh, giảng dạy phép báp-tem về sự ăn năn để được tha tội,
And he came in to all the coostes aboute Iordan preachynge the baptyme of repentaunce for the remission of synnes
4 như lời đã chép trong sách đấng tiên tri Ê-sai rằng: Có tiếng kêu la trong đồng vắng: Hãy dọn đường Chúa, ban bằng các nẻo Ngài.
at it is written in the boke of the sayinges of Esaias ye Prophet which sayeth: The voyce of a cryar in wyldernes prepare the waye of the Lorde make hys pathes strayght.
5 Mọi nơi sũng thấp sẽ lấp cho đầy, Các núi các gò thì bị hạ xuống; Ðường quanh quẹo thì làm cho ngay, Ðường gập ghềnh thì làm cho bằng;
Every valley shalbe fylled and every moutayne and hyll shalbe brought lowe. And crocked thinges shalbe made streight: and the rough wayes shalbe made smoth:
6 Và mọi xác thịt sẽ thấy sự cứu của Ðức Chúa Trời.
and all flesshe shall se the saveour sent of God.
7 Vậy, Giăng nói cùng đoàn dân đến để chịu mình làm phép báp-tem rằng: Hỡi dòng dõi rắn lục, ai đã dạy các ngươi tránh khỏi cơn thạnh nộ ngày sau?
Then sayde he to the people that were come to be baptysed of him: O generacion of vipers who hath taught you to flye from the wrath to come?
8 Thế thì, hãy kết quả xứng đáng với sự ăn năn; và đừng tự nói rằng: Áp-ra-ham là tổ phụ chúng ta; vì ta nói cùng các ngươi, Ðức Chúa Trời có thể khiến từ những đá nầy sanh ra con cái cho Áp-ra-ham được.
Bringe forth due frutes of repentaunce and begynne not to saye in youre selves we have Abraham to oure father. For I saye vnto you: God is able of these stones to reyse vp chyldren vnto Abraham.
9 Cái búa đã để kề gốc cây; hễ cây nào không sanh trái tốt thì sẽ bị đốn và chụm.
Now also ys the axe leyd vnto the rote of the trees: so yt every tree which bringeth not forth good frute shalbe hewe doune and caste in to ye fyre.
10 Chúng bèn hỏi Giăng rằng: Vậy thì chúng tôi phải làm gì?
And the people axed him sayinge: What shall we do then?
11 Người đáp rằng: Ai có hai áo, hãy lấy một cái cho người không có; và ai có đồ ăn cũng nên làm như vậy.
He answered and sayde vnto them: He that hath two coottes let him parte with him that hath none: and he that hath meate let him do lyke wyse.
12 Cũng có những người thâu thuế đến để chịu phép báp-tem; họ hỏi rằng: Thưa thầy, chúng tôi phải làm gì?
Then came ther Publicans to be baptised and sayde vnto him: Master what shall we do?
13 Người nói rằng: Ðừng đòi chi ngoài số luật định.
And he sayde vnto the: requyre no more then that which ys appoynted vnto you.
14 Quân lính cũng hỏi rằng: Còn chúng tôi phải làm gì? Người nói rằng: Ðừng hà hiếp, đừng phỉnh gạt ai hết, những hãy bằng lòng về lương hướng mình.
The soudyoures lyke wyse demaunded of hym sayinge: and what shall we do? And he sayde to them: Do violence to noo ma: nether trouble eny man wrongfully: but be content with youre wages.
15 Bởi dân chúng vẫn trông đợi, và ai nấy đều tự hỏi trong lòng nếu Giăng phải là Ðấng Christ chăng,
As the people were in a doute and all men disputed in their hertes of Iohn whether he were very Christ:
16 nên Giăng cất tiếng nói cùng mọi người rằng: Phần ta làm phép báp-tem cho các ngươi bằng nước; song có một Ðấng quyền phép hơn ta sẽ đến, ta không đáng mở dây giày Ngài. Chính Ngài sẽ làm phép báp-tem cho các ngươi bằng Ðức Thánh Linh và bằng lửa.
Ihon answered and sayde to them all: I baptyse you wt water but a stronger then I cometh after me whose shue latchet I am not worthy to vnlouse: he will baptise you with the holy goost and with fyre:
17 Tay Ngài sẽ cầm nia mà giê thật sạch sân lúa mình, và thâu lúa mì vào kho; nhưng đốt trấu trong lửa chẳng hề tắt.
which hath his fanne in his hond and will pourge his floore and will gader the corne into his barne: but the chaffe wyll he bourne with fyre that never shalbe quenched.
18 Trong khi Giăng rao truyền Tin Lành, thì cũng khuyên bảo dân chúng nhiều điều nữa.
And many other thinges in his exhortacion preached he vnto the people.
19 Song Hê-rốt, vua chư hầu, đã bị Giăng can gián về việc Hê-rô-đia vợ của em mình, cùng về các điều ác vua đã làm,
Then Herode the Tetrach (when he was rebuked of him for Herodias his brother Philippes wyfe and for all the evyls which Herod had done)
20 thì lại thêm một điều ác nữa, là bắt Giăng bỏ tù.
added this above all and leyd Iohn in preson.
21 Vả, khi hết thảy dân chúng đều chịu phép báp-tem, Ðức Chúa Jêsus cũng chịu phép báp-tem. Ngài đương cầu nguyện thì trời mở ra,
And yt fortuned as all the people receaved baptyme (and when Iesus was baptised and dyd praye) that heave was opened
22 Ðức Thánh Linh lấy hình chim bò câu ngự xuống trên Ngài; lại có tiếng từ trên trời phán rằng: Ngươi là Con yêu dấu của ta, đẹp lòng ta mọi đường.
and the holy goost came doune in a bodely shape lyke a dove vpo him and a voyce came fro heve sayinge: Thou arte my dere sonne in the do I delyte.
23 Khi Ðức Chúa Jêsus khởi sự làm chức vụ mình thì Ngài có độ ba mươi tuổi. Theo ý người ta tin, thì Ngài là con Giô-sép, Giô-sép con Hê-li,
And Iesus him silfe was about thirty yere of age when he begane beinge as men supposed the sonne of Ioseph. which Ioseph was the sonne of Heli
24 Hê-li con Mát-tát, Mát-tát con Lê-vi, Lê-vi con Mên-chi, Mên-chi con Gia-nê, Gia-nê con Giô-sép,
which was the sonne of Mathat which was the sonne of Levi: which was the sonne of Melchi: which was the sonne of Ianna: which was the sonne of Ioseph:
25 Giô-sép con Ma-ta-thia, Ma-ta-thia con A-mốt, A-mốt con Na-hum, Na-hum con Ếch-li, Ếch-li con Na-ghê,
which was the sonne of Matatthias: which was the sonne of Amos: which was the sonne of Nahum: which was the sonne of Esli: which was the sonne of Nagge:
26 Na-ghê con Ma-át, Ma-át con Ma-ta-thia, Ma-ta-thia con Sê-mê-in, Sê-mê-in con Giô-sếch, Giô-sếch con Giô-đa,
which was the sonne of Maath: which was the sonne of Matathias: which was the sonne of Semei: which was the sonne of Ioseph: which was the sonne of Iuda:
27 Giô-đa con Giô-a-nan, Giô-a-nan, con Rê-sa, Rê-sa con Xô-rô-ba-bên, Xô-rô-ba-bên con Sa-la-thi-ên, Sa-la-thi-ên con Nê-ri,
which was the sonne of Iohanna: which was the sonne of Rhesya: which was the sonne of zorobabel: which was the sonne of Salathiel: which was the sonne of Neri:
28 Nê-ri con Mên-chi, Mên-chi con A-đi, A-đi con Cô-sam, Cô-sam con Eân-ma-đan, Eân-ma-đan con Ê-rơ,
which was the sonne of Melchi: which was the sonne of Addi: which was the sonne of Cosam: which was the sonne of Helmadam: which was the sonne of Her:
29 Ê-rơ con Giê-su, Giê-su con Ê-li-ê-se, Ê-li-ê-se con Giô-rim, Giô-rim con Mát-thát, Mát-thát con Lê-vi,
which was the sonne of Ieso: which was the sonne of Helieser: which was the sonne of Ioram: which was the sonne of Mattha: which was the sonne of Levi:
30 Lê-vi con Si-mê-ôn, Si-mê-ôn con Giu-đa, Giu-đa con Giô-sép, Giô-sép con Giô-nam, Giô-nam con Ê-li-a-kim, Ê-li-a-kim con Mê-lê-a,
which was the sonne of Simeon: which was the sonne of Iuda: which was the sonne of Ioseph: which was the sonne of Ionam: which was the sonne of Heliachim:
31 Mê-lê-a con Men-na, Men-na con Mát-ta-tha, Mát-ta-tha con Na-than, Na-than con Ða-vít,
which was the sonne of Melea: which was the sonne of Menam: which was the sonne of Mathathan: which was the sonne of Nathan: which was the sonne of David:
32 Ða-vít con Gie-sê, Gie-sê con Giô-bết, Giô-bết con Bô-ô, Bô-ô con Sa-la, Sa-la con Na-ách-son, Na-ách son con A-mi-na-đáp,
which was the sonne of Iesse: which was the sonne of Obed: which was the sonne of Boos: which was the sonne of Salmon: which was the sonne of Naason:
33 A-mi-na-đáp con Át-min, Át-min con A-rơ-ni, A-rơ-ni con Ếch-rôm, Ếch-rôn con Pha-rê, Pha-rê con Giu-đa,
which was the sonne of Aminadab: which was the sonne of Aram: which was the sonne of Esrom: which was the sonne of Phares: which was the sonne of Iuda:
34 Giu-đa con Gia-cốp, Gia-cốp con Y-sác, Y-sác con Áp-ra-ham, Áp-ra-ham con Tha-rê, Tha-rê con Na-cô,
which was the sonne of Iacob: which was the sonne of Ysaac: which was the sonne of Abraham: which was the sonne of Tharra: which was the sonne of Nachor:
35 Na-cô con Sê-rúc, Sê-rúc con Ra-gao, Ra-gao, con Pha-léc, Pha-léc con Hê-be, Hê-be con Sa-la,
which was the sonne of Saruch: which was the sonne of Ragau: which was the sonne of Phalec: which was the sonne of Heber: which was the sonne of Sala:
36 Sa-la con Cai-nam, Cai-nam cho A-bác-sát, A-bác-sát con Sem, Sem con Nô-ê, Nô-ê con La-méc,
which was the sonne of Cainan: which was the sonne of Arphaxat: which was the sonne of Sem: which was the sonne of Noe: which was the sonne of Lameth:
37 La-méc con Ma-tu-sê-la, ma-tu-sê-la con Hê-nóc, Hê-nóc con Gia-rết, Gia-rết con Mê-lê-lê-ên, Mê-lê-lê-ên con Cai-nam,
which was the sonne of Mathusala: which was the sonne of Enoch: which was the sonne of Iareth: which was the sonne of Malalehel. which was the sonne of Cainan:
38 Cai-nam con Ê-nót, Ê-nót con Sết, Sết con A-đam, A-đam con Ðức Chúa Trời.
which was the sonne of Enos: which was the sonne of Seth: which was the sonne of Adam: which was the sonne of God.
