1 Bấy giờ, cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều kéo ra đi, từ Ðan cho đến Bê -e-sê-ba, và cho đến xứ Ga-la-át; hội chúng tụ hiệp lại như một người trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, tại Mích-ba.
And all the sons of Israel go out, and the company is assembled as one man, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and the land of Gilead, unto Jehovah, at Mizpeh.
2 Những quan trưởng của cả dân sự, tức là của các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, đều ra mắt trong hội của dân Ðức Chúa Trời: có bốn trăm ngàn lính bộ, có tài cầm gươm.
And the chiefs of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, station themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen drawing sword.
3 Vả, người Bên-gia-min đã hay rằng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Mích-ba. Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói: Hãy thuật lại cho biết tội ác nầy đã phạm làm sao?
And the sons of Benjamin hear that the sons of Israel have gone up to Mizpeh. And the sons of Israel say, 'Speak ye, how hath this evil been?'
4 Người Lê-vi, chồng của người đờn bà bị giết, đáp rằng: Tôi có vào thành Ghi-bê-a, là thành của Bên-gia-min, với vợ bé tôi, đặng ngủ đêm tại đó.
And the man, the Levite, husband of the woman who hath been murdered, answereth and saith, 'Into Gibeah (which [is] to Benjamin) I have come, I and my concubine, to lodge;
5 Nhưng dân Ghi-bê-a dấy lên cùng tôi, đương ban đêm vây nhà tôi ở; chúng đã toan giết tôi, có hành hung cùng vợ bé tôi, và nó chết vì cớ đó.
and rise against me do the masters of Gibeah — and they go round the house against me by night — me they thought to slay, and my concubine they have humbled, and she dieth;
6 Ðoạn, tôi nắm lấy thây vợ bé tôi, chặt nó ra từng đoạn, gởi đi khắp địa phận của sản nghiệp Y-sơ-ra-ên; vì chúng nó có phạm một tội trọng, một sự sỉ nhục trong Y-sơ-ra-ên.
and I lay hold on my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and send her into all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have done wickedness and folly in Israel;
7 Nầy, hết thảy dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có mặt đây; anh em hãy bàn luận nhau và liệu định phải làm thế nào đây.
lo, ye [are] all sons of Israel; give for you a word and counsel here.'
8 Cả dân sự đứng dậy như một người mà rằng: Chẳng ai trong chúng ta sẽ trở lại trại mình; không ai rút về nhà mình.
And all the people rise as one man, saying, 'None of us doth go to his tent, and none of us doth turn aside to his house;
9 Bây giờ, nầy là điều chúng ta phải xử cho Ghi-bê-a: Chúng ta sẽ đi lên đánh thành đó theo thứ tự của thăm nh»©t định.
and now, this [is] the thing which we do to Gibeah — against it by lot!
10 Trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, chúng ta phải lấy mười người trong một trăm, trăm người trong một ngàn, ngàn người trong một muôn. Chúng ta sẽ đi tìm lương thực cho dân sự; rồi khi trở về, người ta phải xử Ghi-bê-a của Bên-gia-min, tùy theo sự sỉ nhục mà thành ấy đã phạm nơi Y-sơ-ra-ên.
and we have taken ten men of a hundred, of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of a myriad, to receive provision for the people, to do, at their coming to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly which it hath done in Israel.'
11 Ấy vậy, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên nhóm nhau hãm đánh thành đó, hiệp lại như chỉ một người.
And every man of Israel is gathered unto the city, as one man — companions.
12 Các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên sai sứ giả đến cùng chi phái Bên-gia-min mà nói rằng: Tội ác đã phạm tại trong các ngươi là gì?
And the tribes of Israel send men among all the tribes of Benjamin, saying, 'What [is] this evil which hath been among you?
13 Bây giờ, hãy nộp cho chúng ta những người gian tà của Ghi-bê-a, để chúng ta xử tử chúng nó, và diệt điều ác khỏi giữa Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nhưng người Bên-gia-min không khứng nghe tiếng của anh em mình, là dân Y-sơ-ra-ên,
And now, give up the men — sons of worthlessness — which [are] in Gibeah, and we put them to death, and we put away evil from Israel.' And [the sons of] Benjamin have not been willing to hearken to the voice of their brethren, the sons of Israel;
14 bèn ra khỏi thành họ, và nhóm hiệp tại Ghi-bê-a đặng giao chiến cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
and the sons of Benjamin are gathered out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle with the sons of Israel.
15 Trong ngày đó, người ta tu bộ người Bên-gia-min từ các thành mà đến; số là hai muôn sáu ngàn người nam, đều có tài cầm gươm, không kể dân Ghi-bê-a, được số bảy trăm người tinh-binh.
And the sons of Benjamin number themselves on that day; out of the cities [are] twenty and six thousand men drawing sword, apart from the inhabitants of Gibeah, [who] numbered themselves, seven hundred chosen men;
16 Trong cả dân sự ấy có bảy trăm người tinh-binh thuận tay tả. Hết thảy những kẻ đó có tài dùng trành ném đá trúng một sợi tóc, mà chẳng hề sai trật.
among all this people [are] seven hundred chosen men, bound of their right hand, each of these slinging with a stone at the hair, and he doth not err.
17 Người ta cũng tu bộ những người nam Y-sơ-ra-ên, không kể người Bên-gia-min, thì số được bốn mươi vạn người, có tài cầm gươm, thảy đều là chiến sĩ.
And the men of Israel numbered themselves, apart from Benjamin, four hundred thousand men, drawing sword, each of these a man of war.
18 Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Ghi-bê-a và cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời như vầy: Ai trong chúng tôi phải lên trước đặng giao chiến cùng người Bên-gia-min? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp: Giu-đa sẽ đi lên trước.
And they rise and go up to Beth-El, and ask of God, and the sons of Israel say, 'Who doth go up for us at the commencement to battle with the sons of Benjamin?' and Jehovah saith, 'Judah — at the commencement.'
19 Vừa sáng ngày, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo đi và đóng trại gần Ghi-bê-a.
And the sons of Israel rise in the morning, and encamp against Gibeah,
20 Người Y-sơ-ra-ên ra đánh người Bên-gia-min, dàn trận cùng chúng tại trước Ghi-bê-a.
and the men of Israel go out to battle with Benjamin, and the men of Israel set themselves in array with them, [for] battle against Gibeah,
21 Người Bên-gia-min bèn ra khỏi Ghi-bê-a, và trong ngày đó, giết hai muôn ngàn người Y-sơ-ra-ên, nằm chật đất.
and the sons of Benjamin come out from Gibeah, and destroy in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men — to the earth.
22 Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại phấn chí, dàn trận mới tại chỗ mình đã dàn ngày thứ nhứt.
And the people, the men of Israel, strengthen themselves, and add to set the battle in array in the place where they arranged themselves on the first day.
23 Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên khóc trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va cho đến chiều tối, cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va mà rằng: Tôi phải đi giao chiến lại cùng người Bên-gia-min, là anh em của tôi, chăng? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp: Hãy lên đánh nó!
And the sons of Israel go up and weep before Jehovah till the evening, and ask of Jehovah, saying, 'Do I add to draw nigh to battle with the sons of Benjamin, my brother?' And Jehovah saith, 'Go up against him.'
24 Ngày thứ nhì người Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo tới đánh ngươi Bên-gia-min.
And the sons of Israel draw near unto the sons of Benjamin on the second day,
25 Người Bên-gia-min cũng ra Ghi-bê-a nội ngày đó, đánh dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, lại giết nằm sải dưới đất một muôn tám ngàn người của dân ấy, thảy đều có tài cầm gươm.
and Benjamin cometh out to meet them from Gibeah on the second day, and destroy among the sons of Israel again eighteen thousand men — to the earth; all these are drawing sword.
26 Bấy giờ, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên và cả dân sự đều đi lên Bê-tên, khóc và đứng tại đó trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, cữ ăn trong ngày ấy cho đến chiều tối, rồi dâng của lễ thiêu và của lễ thù ân tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va.
And all the sons of Israel go up, even all the people, and come in to Beth-El, and weep, and sit there before Jehovah, and fast on that day till the evening, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before Jehovah.
27 Ðương khi ấy, hòm giao ước của Ðức Chúa Trời ở tại đó, có Phi-nê-a, con trai Ê-lê-a-sa, cháu A-rôn, phục sự trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va mà rằng:
And the sons of Israel ask of Jehovah, — and there [is] the ark of the covenant of God in those days,
28 Tôi còn phải giao chiến cùng người Bên-gia-min, anh em tôi, hay là tôi phải đình lại? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp: Hãy đi lên, vì ngày mai ta sẽ phó chúng nó vào tay các ngươi.
and Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, is standing before it in those days — saying, 'Do I add again to go out to battle with the sons of Benjamin, my brother, or do I cease?' And Jehovah saith, 'Go up, for to-morrow I give him into thy hand.'
29 Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn phục binh chung quanh Ghi-bê-a.
And Israel setteth liers in wait against Gibeah, round about,
30 Ngày thứ ba, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên, đánh người Bên-gia-min và dàn trận cùng Ghi-bê-a như các lần trước.
and the sons of Israel go up against the sons of Benjamin, on the third day, and arrange themselves against Gibeah, as time by time.
31 Người Bên-gia-min ra đón dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bị dụ xa thành. Y như hai lần trước chúng khởi đánh và giết mấy người của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, chừng ba mươi người, tại trong hai con đường trải qua đồng bằng đi lên, một ngả tới Bê-tên, và ngả kia tới Ghi-bê-a.
And the sons of Benjamin come out to meet the people; they have been drawn away out of the city, and begin to smite [some] of the people — wounded as time by time, in the highways (of which one is going up to Beth-El, and the other to Gibeah in the field), [are] about thirty men of Israel.
32 Người Bên-gia-min nói rằng: Kìa, chúng nó bị bại trước mặt chúng ta như lần trước. Nhưng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói: Chúng ta hãy chạy trốn, dụ chúng nó ra cách xa thành, đến trong các đường cái.
And the sons of Benjamin say, 'They are smitten before us as at the beginning;' but the sons of Israel said, 'Let us flee, and draw them away out of the city, unto the highways.'
33 Hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn bỏ chỗ mình đứng, dàn trận tại Ba-anh-Tha-ma, và đạo binh phục của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phục của Y-sơ-ra-ên đâm sầm ra khỏi chỗ phục mình tại đồng bằng Ghi-bê-a.
And all the men of Israel have risen from their place, and arrange themselves at Baal-Tamar, and the ambush of Israel is coming forth out of its place, out of the meadow of Gibeah.
34 Như vậy, xảy có một muôn tinh binh của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phục trước tại Ghi-bê-a xông tới, đánh giặc rất dữ dội; nhưng người Bên-gia-min không biết tai họa hãm lấy mình.
And they come in over against Gibeah — ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel — and the battle [is] grievous, and they have not known that the evil is striking against them.
35 Ðức Giê-hô-va đánh bại người chi phái Bên-gia-min trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên; và trong ngày đó, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên giết hai muôn năm ngàn mốt người Bên-gia-min, hết thảy đều có tài cầm gươm.
And Jehovah smiteth Benjamin before Israel, and the sons of Israel destroy in Benjamin, on that day, twenty and five thousand, and a hundred men; all these [are] drawing sword.
36 Người Bên-gia-min thấy rõ mình bị bại. Vả, người Y-sơ-ra-ên đã nhường bước cho người Bên-gia-min, vì chúng tin cậy nơi sự phục binh mình ở gần Ghi-bê-a.
And the sons of Benjamin see that they have been smitten — and the men of Israel give place to Benjamin, for they have trusted unto the ambush which they had set against Gibeah,
37 Những binh đã phục, lật đật xông hãm Ghi-bê-a, đi tới lấy gươm giết hết thảy cả người ở thành.
and the ambush have hasted, and push against Gibeah, and the ambush draweth itself out, and smiteth the whole of the city by the mouth of the sword.
38 Người Y-sơ-ra-ên đã hẹn một dấu hiệu với những binh phục, là những phục binh phải làm cho một ngọn khói đen cất lên khỏi thành.
And there was the appointed sign to the men of Israel with the ambush — their causing to go up a great volume of smoke from the city.
39 Vậy, dân Y-sơ -r-ên đã thối lại trong trận, còn người Bên-gia-min khởi đánh và giết chừng ba mươi người Y-sơ-ra-ên. Chúng nói: Quả thật chúng nó bị thua trước mặt chúng ta như lần trước!
And the men of Israel turn in battle, and Benjamin hath begun to smite the wounded among the men of Israel, about thirty men, for they said, 'Surely they are utterly smitten before us, as [at] the first battle;
40 Nhưng khi trụ khói khởi bay lên khỏi thành, người Bên-gia-min nhìn xem lại đằng sau, thấy cả thành đều có khói bay lên trời.
and the volume hath begun to go up from the city — a pillar of smoke — and Benjamin turneth behind, and lo, gone up hath the perfection of the city toward the heavens.
41 Bấy giờ, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trở lại, còn nhưng người Bên-gia-min lấy làm kinh hãi, vì thấy tai họa đã hãm áp mình.
And the men of Israel have turned, and the men of Benjamin are troubled, for they have seen that the evil hath stricken against them —
42 Chúng xây lưng lại trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng; nhưng đạo binh Y-sơ-ra-ên theo riết gần, và những kẻ ra khỏi thành đều bị giết liền.
and they turn before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness, and the battle hath followed them; and those who [are] from the city are destroying them in their midst;
43 Chúng vây phủ người Bên-gia-min, đuổi theo và chà đạp họ tại nơi họ dừng lại, cho đến chỗ đối ngang Ghi-bê-a, về hướng mặt trời mọc.
they have compassed the Benjamites — they have pursued them — with ease they have trodden them down till over-against Gibeah, at the sun-rising.
44 Như vậy, một muôn tám ngàn người Bên-gia-min phải ngã, thảy đều là người dõng sĩ.
And there fall of Benjamin eighteen thousand men — the whole of these [are] men of valour;
45 Trong số người xây lưng chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng, hướng hòn đá Rim-môn, thì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên còn giết dọc đường năm ngàn người nữa, đoạn theo riết gần đến Ghi-bê-om thì giết hai ngàn người.
and they turn and flee toward the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon; and they glean of them in the highways five thousand men, and follow after them unto Gidom, and smite of them two thousand men.
46 Vậy, số tổng cộng người Bên-gia-min ngã chết trong ngày đó là hai muôn năm ngàn người có tài cầm gươm, và thảy đều là người dõng sĩ.
And all those falling of Benjamin are twenty and five thousand men drawing sword, on that day — the whole of these [are] men of valour;
47 Lại có sáu trăm người xây lưng chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng, đến hòn đá Rim-môn và ở đó bốn tháng.
and there turn and flee into the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon six hundred men, and they dwell in the rock Rimmon four months.
48 Ðoạn, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trở lại đánh người Bên-gia-min, dùng gươm giết hết thảy người ta ở trong thành, súc vật và hết thảy vật nào gặp được; lại hễ gặp thành nào, thì châm lửa đốt nó.
And the men of Israel have turned back unto the sons of Benjamin, and smite them by the mouth of the sword out of the city, — men unto cattle, unto all that is found; also all the cities which are found they have sent into fire.
