I Sa-mu-ên 25
1 Kế ấy, Sa-mu-ên qua đời; cả Y-sơ-ra-ên nhóm lại đặng than khóc người; rồi chôn người trong nhà người tại Ra-ma. Ða-vít bèn đứng dậy, đi xuống đồng vắng Pha-ran.
Then Samuel died, and all of Israel gathered together, and they mourned him. And they buried him at his house in Ramah. And David, rising up, descended to the desert of Paran.
2 Vả, có một người ở Ma-ôn, còn sản nghiệp nó thì ở Cạt-mên. Người rất giàu, có ba ngàn chiên, và một ngàn dê; người đương ở Cạt-mên đặng hớt lông chiên mình.
Now there was a certain man in the wilderness of Maon, and his possessions were at Carmel. And this man was exceedingly great. And three thousand sheep, and one thousand goats were his. And it happened that he was shearing his sheep at Carmel.
3 Người nầy tên là Na-banh, và vợ là A-bi-ga-in; vợ thì thông minh tốt đẹp, còn chồng thì cứng cỏi hung ác, thuộc về dòng Ca-lép.
Now the name of this man was Nabal. And the name of his wife was Abigail. And she was a very prudent and beautiful woman. But her husband was hard-hearted, and very wicked, and malicious. And he was of the stock of Caleb.
4 Ða-vít ở trong rừng hay rằng Na-banh hớt lông chiên,
Therefore, when David, in the desert, had heard that Nabal was shearing his sheep,
5 bèn sai mười gã trai trẻ đi mà dặn rằng: Hãy đi lên Cạt-mên, tìm Na-banh, nhơn danh ta chào người,
he sent ten young men, and he said to them: “Ascend to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name peacefully.
6 và nói rằng: Nguyện ông được bình yên, nguyện nhà ông cũng được bình yên; phàm vật gì thuộc về ông đều được bình yên!
And you shall say: ‘Peace be to my brothers and to you, and peace to your house, and peace to whatever you have.
7 Và bây giờ, tôi có hay rằng ông có những thợ hớt lông chiên. Trong lúc các kẻ chăn chiên ông ở gần chúng tôi, chúng tôi chẳng hề khuấy khuất chúng nó; và trọn hồi chúng nó ở tại Cạt-mên, chẳng có thiếu mất gì hết.
I have heard that your shepherds, who were with us in the desert, were shearing. We have never troubled them, nor was anything from the flock missing to them at any time, during the entire time that they have been with us in Carmel.
8 Hãy hỏi tôi tớ ông về điều đó, chúng nó sẽ nói cùng ông. Vậy, xin các gã trai trẻ được ơn trước mặt ông, vì chúng tôi đến trong ngày tốt lành; hễ tay ông tìm thấy vật gì, hãy ban cho các tôi tớ ông, và cho con ông là Ða-vít.
Question your servants, and they will tell you. Now therefore, may your servants find favor in your eyes. For we have arrived on a good day. Whatever your hand will find, give it to your servants and to your son David.’”
9 Vậy, các gã trai trẻ của Ða-vít đi đến nhơn danh Ða-vít lặp lại cho Na-banh mọi lời ấy; đoạn nín lặng;
And when the servants of David had arrived, they spoke to Nabal all these words in the name of David. And then they were silent.
10 Nhưng Na-banh đáp cùng các tôi tớ Ða-vít rằng: Ai là Ða-vít? Ai là con trai của Y-sai? Những tôi tớ trốn khỏi chủ mình, ngày nay lấy làm đông thay!
But Nabal, responding to the servants of David, said: “Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? Today, servants who are fleeing from their lords are increasing.
11 Lẽ nào ta sẽ lấy bánh, nước, và thịt ta dọn sẵn cho các thợ hớt lông chiên mà cho những kẻ chẳng biết ở đâu đến sao?
Therefore, shall I take my bread, and my water, and the meat of the cattle that I have slain for my shearers, and give it to men, when I do not know where they are from?”
12 Những gã trai trẻ của Ða-vít thối đường trở về. Ðến nơi, chúng nó thuật lại các lời ấy cho Ða-vít nghe.
And so the servants of David traveled back along their way. And returning, they went and reported to him all the words that he had said.
13 Ða-vít bèn nói cùng các người theo mình rằng: Mỗi người trong chúng ta hãy đeo gươm mình. Chúng đeo gươm mình, và Ða-vít cũng đeo gươm của người. Ước chừng bốn trăm người đi lên theo Ða-vít, còn hai trăm người ở lại giữ đồ vật.
Then David said to his servants, “Let each one gird his sword.” And each one girded his sword. And David also girded his sword. And about four hundred men followed David. But two hundred remained behind with the supplies.
14 Có một đứa đầy tớ báo tin cho A-bi-ga-in, vợ của Na-banh, rằng: Ða-vít có sai những sứ giả từ đồng vắng đến chào chủ chúng tôi, nhưng Na-banh ở gắt góng cùng họ.
Then it was reported to Abigail, the wife of Nabal, by one of his servants, saying: “Behold, David has sent messengers from the desert, so that they might speak kindly to our lord. But he turned them away.
15 Song trọn lúc chúng tôi ở gần những người ấy tại trong đồng, thì họ rất tử tế cùng chúng tôi, chúng tôi không bị khuấy khuất, và chẳng thiếu mất vật chi hết.
These men were good enough to us, and were not troublesome. Neither did we ever lose anything, during the entire time that we conversed with them in the desert.
16 Bao lâu chúng tôi ở gần các người đó, lo chăn bầy chiên chúng tôi, thì ngày và đêm họ dường như tường che cho chúng tôi.
They were a wall to us, as much in the night as in the day, during all the days that we were with them, pasturing the sheep.
17 Vậy bây giờ, khá xem xét điều bà phải làm; vì đã định giáng tai họa trên chủ chúng tôi và trên cả nhà người; chủ dữ quá, không có ai nói cùng người được.
For this reason, consider and realize what you should do. For evil has been decided against your husband and against your house. And he is a son of Belial, so that no one is able to speak to him.”
18 A-bi-ga-in vội vàng lấy hai trăm ổ bánh, hai bầu da rượu nho, năm con chiên đực nấu chín, năm đấu hột rang, một trăm bánh nho khô, và hai trăm bánh trái vả khô, chất trên lưng lừa.
And so Abigail hurried, and she took two hundred loaves, and two vessels of wine, and five cooked sheep, and five measures of cooked grain, and one hundred clusters of dried grapes, and two hundred masses of dried figs, and she set them upon donkeys.
19 Ðoạn, người nói cùng các tôi tớ rằng: Hãy đi trước ta, ta sẽ đi theo các ngươi. Nhưng nàng không nói chi hết cùng Na-banh, chồng mình.
And she said to her servants: “Go before me. Behold, I will follow after your back.” But she did not reveal it to her husband, Nabal.
20 Nàng cỡi lừa đi xuống theo một con đường có núi bao phủ, thì Ða-vít và những kẻ theo người cũng đi xuống đụng mặt nàng; nàng bèn gặp các người đó.
And when she had climbed on a donkey, and was descending to the base of the mountain, David and his men were descending to meet her. And she met them.
21 Vả, Ða-vít có nói rằng: Vậy, thật lấy làm luống công cho ta đã gìn giữ mọi vật của người nầy có trong đồng vắng, đến đỗi chẳng thiếu mất gì hết. Còn hắn lại lấy oán trả ơn.
And David said: “Truly, in vain have I preserved all that was his in the wilderness, so that nothing perished out of all that belonged to him. And he has repaid evil to me for good.
22 Nguyện Ðức Chúa Trời xử kẻ thù nghịch của Ða-vít thật cho nặng nề! Từ đây đến mai, phàm vật gì thuộc về Na-banh, ta sẽ chẳng để còn lại vật nhỏ hơn hết.
May God do these things, by the enemies of David, and may he add these other things, if I leave behind until morning, out of all that belongs to him, anything that urinates against a wall.”
23 Khi a-bi-ga-in thấy Ða-vít, liền lật đật xuống lừa mình, và sấp mình xuống đất tại trước mặt Ða-vít mà lạy.
Then, when Abigail had seen David, she hurried and descended from the donkey. And she fell upon her face before David, and she reverenced on the ground.
24 Vậy, nàng phục dưới chơn người mà nói rằng: Lạy chúa, lỗi về tôi, về tôi! Xin cho phép con đòi ông nói trước mặt ông; xin hãy nghe các lời của con đòi ông.
And she fell at his feet, and she said: “May this iniquity be upon me, my lord. I beg you, let your handmaid speak to your ears, and listen to the words of your servant.
25 Xin chúa chớ kể đến người hung ác kia, là Na-banh; vì tánh hắn thật hiệp với nghĩa tên hắn: tên hắn là Na-banh, và nơi hắn có sự điên dại. Còn tôi, là con đòi chúa, chẳng có thấy những người chúa sai đến.
Let not my lord, the king, I beseech you, set his heart upon this iniquitous man, Nabal. For in accord with his name, he is senseless, and foolishness is with him. But I, your handmaid, did not see your servants, my lord, whom you had sent.
26 Bây giờ, Ðức Giê-hô-va đã ngăn chúa đến làm đổ huyết ra, và lấy chánh tay mình mà báo thù; tôi chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống và mạng sống của chúa mà thề: nguyện các thù nghịch chúa và kẻ tìm hại chúa đều như Na-banh!
Now therefore, my lord, as your soul lives, and as the Lord lives, who has kept your hand to yourself, and has prevented you from coming to blood: now, let your enemies be like Nabal, and like all those who are seeking evil for my lord.
27 Vậy bây giờ, nầy là lễ vật mà con đòi chúa đem đến dâng cho chúa, để phát cho các người đi theo sau.
Because of this, accept this blessing, which your handmaid has brought to you, my lord. And give it to the young men who follow you, my lord.
28 Xin hãy tha lỗi cho con đòi chúa! Ðức Giê-hô-va quả hẳn sẽ lập nhà chúa được bền lâu, vì chúa đánh giặc cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, và trọn đời chúa sẽ chẳng tìm thấy một sự ác nơi chúa.
Forgive the iniquity of your handmaid. For the Lord will surely make for you, my lord, a faithful house, because you, my lord, fight the battles of the Lord. Therefore, let no evil be found in you all the days of your life.
29 Nếu có ai dấy lên đặng bắt bớ và hại mạng sống chúa, thì Giê-hô-va đức Chúa Trời của chúa sẽ gìn giữ mạng sống của chúa trong bọc những người sống; còn mạng sống của kẻ thù nghịch chúa, Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ ném ra xa như khỏi trành ném đá vậy.
For if a man, at any time, will rise up, pursuing you and seeking your life, the life of my lord will be preserved, as if in the sheave of the living, with the Lord your God. But the lives of your enemies will be spun around, as if with the force of a whirling sling.
30 Khi đức Giê-hô-va đã làm cho chúa tôi mọi sự lành mà Ngài đã hứa, và khi Ngài đã lập người làm đầu Y-sơ-ra-ên,
Therefore, when the Lord will have done for you, my lord, all the good that he has spoken about you, and when he will have appointed you as leader over Israel,
31 thì ước gì chúa tôi không phàn nàn và không bị lòng cắn rức vì đã vô cớ làm đổ máu ra và báo thù cho mình! Lại khi Ðức Giê-hô-va đã làm ơn cho chúa tôi, nguyện chúa nhớ đến con đòi của chúa!
this will not be for you a regret or a scruple of the heart, my lord, that you had shed innocent blood, or had taken revenge for yourself. And when the Lord will have done well for my lord, you shall remember your handmaid.”
32 Ða-vít đáp cùng A-bi-ga-in rằng: Ðáng ngợi khen Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, vì đã sai ngươi đến đón ta ngày nay!
And David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me. And blessed is your eloquence.
33 Ðáng khen sự khôn ngoan ngươi và chúc phước cho ngươi, vì ngày nay đã cản ta đến làm đổ huyết và ngăn ta dùng chính tay mình mà báo thù cho mình.
And blessed are you, who prevented me today from going to blood, and from taking revenge for myself with my own hand.
34 Nhưng ta chỉ Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời hằng sống của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Ðấng đã cản ta làm điều ác, mà thề rằng, nếu nàng không vội vàng đến đón ta, thì đến sáng mai, phàm vật gì thuộc về Na-banh sẽ chẳng còn lại vật mọn hơn hết.
But instead, as the Lord God of Israel lives, he has prevented me from doing evil to you. But if you had not come quickly to meet me, there would not have been left to Nabal by the morning light, anything that urinates against a wall.”
35 Vậy, Ða-vít nhận lễ vật do nơi tay nàng đem đến cho người, và nói rằng: Hãy trở lên nhà ngươi bình an. Hãy xem, ta đã nghe theo tiếng ngươi, và tiếp ngươi tử tế.
Then David received from her hand all that she had brought to him. And he said to her: “Go in peace to your own house. Behold, I have heeded your voice, and I have honored your face.”
36 Khi A-bi-ga-in trở về cùng Na-banh, thì Na-banh đương ăn tiệc trong nhà mình, thật như yến tiệc của vua vậy. Na-banh có lòng vui vẻ và say lắm. A-bi-ga-in không có tỏ cho người biết điều gì hoặc cần kíp hay chăng, cho đến khi sáng.
Then Abigail went to Nabal. And behold, he was holding a feast for himself in his house, like the feast of a king. And the heart of Nabal was cheerful. For he was greatly inebriated. And she did not reveal a word to him, small or great, until morning.
37 Nhưng sáng mai, khi Na-banh đã giã say rồi, vợ người thuật lại hết, lòng người bèn kinh hoảng, trở thành như đá.
Then, at first light, when Nabal had digested his wine, his wife revealed to him these words, and his heart died within himself, and he became like a stone.
38 Cách chừng mười ngày sau, Ðức Giê-hô-va đánh Na-banh, và người chết.
And after ten days had passed, the Lord struck Nabal, and he died.
39 Khi Ða-vít hay Na-banh chết, thì nói rằng: Ðáng ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va thay, vì đã xử đoán sự sỉ nhục mà tôi bị bởi Na-banh, và đã giữ tôi tớ Ngài khỏi làm điều ác! Ðức Giê-hô-va đã khiến sự hung ác của Na-banh đổ lại trên đầu hắn! Ðoạn, Ða-vít sai người đến hỏi A-bi-ga-in làm vợ mình.
And when David had heard that Nabal was dead, he said: “Blessed is the Lord, who has judged the case of my reproach at the hand of Nabal, and who has preserved his servant from evil. And the Lord has repaid the malice of Nabal upon his own head.” Then David sent and he spoke with Abigail, so that he might take her to himself as wife.
40 Những tôi tớ Ða-vít đến tìm A-bi-ga-in, tại Cạt-mên, mà nói rằng: Ða-vít sai chúng tôi đến cùng nàng, vì người toan lấy nàng làm vợ.
And David’s servants went to Abigail at Carmel, and they spoke to her, saying, “David has sent us to you, so that he might take you to himself as wife.”
41 Nàng bèn chổi dậy, sấp mình xuống đất, mà nói rằng: Nầy con đòi của chúa sẽ làm tôi mọi của chúa đặng rửa chơn các tôi tớ của chúa tôi.
And rising up, she reverenced prone on the ground, and she said, “Behold, let your servant be a handmaid, to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.”
42 Ðoạn, A-bi-ga-in vụt đứng dậy, cỡi lừa mình, có năm con đòi đồng đi theo, mà đi với các sứ giả của Ða-vít, đặng làm vợ người.
And Abigail rose up and hurried, and she climbed upon a donkey, and five girls went with her, her attendants. And she followed the messengers of David, and she became his wife.
43 Ða-vít cũng có cưới A-hi-nô-am, ở Gít-rê-ên, và cả hai đều làm vợ người.
Moreover, David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel. And both of them were his wives.
44 Vả, Sau-lơ đã gả Mi-canh, con gái mình, và là vợ của Ða-vít cho Phanh-ti, con trai của La-ít, người Ga-lim.
Then Saul gave his daughter Michal, the wife of David, to Palti, the son of Laish, who was from Gallim.
