1 Khi nữ vương Sê-ba nghe nói về danh tiếng của Sa-lô-môn và về danh của Ðức Giê-hô-va, bèn đến thử Sa-lô-môn nhiều câu đố.
The queen of Sheba heard how famous Solomon was, so she came to Jerusalem to test him with tough questions.
2 Bà đến Giê-ru-sa-lem có hầu hạ theo rất đông, lạc đà chở thuốc thơm, nhiều vàng và ngọc. Bà đến cùng Sa-lô-môn, nói với người mọi điều có trong lòng mình.
She brought with her a very large entourage, with camels loaded with spices, large amounts of gold, and precious gemstones. She came to Solomon and asked him about everything she had on her mind.
3 Sa-lô-môn đáp các câu hỏi của bà, chẳng câu nào ẩn bí quá cho vua, mà vua không giải nghĩa nổi cho bà.
Solomon answered all her questions. There was nothing he couldn't explain to her.
4 Khi nữ vương Sê-ba thấy mọi sự khôn ngoan của Sa-lô-môn, cung điện người cất,
When the queen of Sheba saw Solomon's wisdom, and the palace he had built,
5 những món ăn trên bàn người, nhà cửa của tôi tớ người, thứ tự công việc của các quan, và đồ ăn mặc của họ, các quan chước tửu, và các của lễ thiêu người dâng trong đền Ðức Giê-hô-va, thì mất vía.
the food on the table, how his officials lived, how his servants operated and how they were dressed, the clothes of the waiters, and the burnt offerings he presented at the Lord's Temple, she was so astonished she could hardly breathe.
6 Rồi bà nói rằng: Ðiều tôi nghe nói trong xứ tôi về lời nói và sự khôn ngoan của vua, thì thật lắm.
She told the king, “It's true what I heard in my own country about your proverbs and your wisdom!
7 Song trước khi tôi chưa đến đây, và chưa thấy tận mắt những điều này, thì tôi chẳng tin; và kìa, người ta chẳng nói đến được phân nửa! Sự khôn ngoan và oai nghi của vua trổi hơn tiếng đồn tôi đã nghe.
But I didn't believe what they told me until I came and saw with my own eyes. In fact, I wasn't told the half of it—the extent of your wisdom far exceeds what I heard!
8 Các tôi tớ vua thật có phước thay! Các tôi tớ vua hằng đứng chầu trước mặt vua, nghe sự khôn ngoan của vua, lấy làm có phước thay!
How happy your people must be! How happy those who work for you, who stand here every day listening to your wisdom!
9 Ðáng khen ngợi thay Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của vua, vì Ngài đẹp lòng vua, đặt vua trên ngôi của Y-sơ-ra-ên! Bởi vì Ðức Giê-hô-va yêu dấu Y-sơ-ra-ên mãi mãi, nên Ngài đã lập vua làm vua đặng cai trị theo sự ngay thẳng và công bình.
Praise the Lord your God who is so pleased with you, who placed you on his throne as king to rule on his behalf. Because of the love of your God for Israel he has made them secure forever, and he has made you king over them to do what is fair and right.”
10 Ðoạn nữ vương dâng cho vua một trăm hai mươi ta lâng vàng và rất nhiều thuốc thơm cùng ngọc quí. Từ đó nhẫn nay, chẳng hề có ai đem thuốc thơm đến số nhiều bằng của nữ vương nước Sê-ba dâng cho vua Sa-lô-môn.
She presented the king with one hundred and twenty talents of gold, huge amounts of spices and precious stones. Never before had there been spices like those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
11 Ðoàn tàu Hi-ram chở vàng Ô-phia, cũng chở cây bạch đàn rất nhiều, và ngọc quí.
(Hiram's fleet of ships brought gold from Ophir, and also carried algum wood and precious stones.
12 Vua dùng cây bạch đàn này mà làm bao lơn cho đền thờ Ðức Giê-hô-va và cho nhà vua, cùng những đờn cầm và đơn sắt cho con hát. Từ đó, chẳng hề có ai đem đến Giê-ru-sa-lem cây bạch đàn dường ấy nữa, không ai thấy lại cho đến ngày nay.
The king used the algum wood to make steps for the Temple and for the royal palace, and into lyres and harps for the musicians. Nothing like them had ever been seen before in the land of Judah.)
13 Vua Sa-lô-môn ban cho nữ vương Sê-ba mọi đều người ước và xin, chẳng kể những vật mà Sa-lô-môn đã ban cho bà, tùy lệ thường của vua. Ðoạn, bà và các tôi tớ bà lên đường trở về xứ mình.
King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she wanted, whatever she asked for. This was in addition to the usual gifts he had generously given her. Then she and her attendants returned home to her own country.
14 Vàng mà vua Sa-lô-môn thâu nhận mỗi năm cân đến sáu trăm bảy mươi sáu ta lâng,
The weight of gold that Solomon received each year was 666 talents,
15 không kể vàng người thâu lấy nơi người buôn bán dông, và nơi sự đổi chác của kẻ thương mại, cùng vàng mà các vua A-ra-bi, và các quan tổng đốc của xứ đem nộp.
not including that received from traders and merchants, and all the kings of Arabia and governors of the land.
16 Vua Sa-lô-môn làm hai trăm cái khiên lớn bằng vàng đánh giác, cứ mỗi cái dùng sáu trăm siếc lơ vàng;
King Solomon made two hundred shields of hammered gold. Each shield required six hundred shekels of hammered gold.
17 lại làm ba trăm cái khiên nhỏ, bằng vàng đánh giác, cứ mỗi cái dùng ba min vàng. Vua để các khiên ấy trong đền rừng Li-ban.
He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold. Each of these shields required three gold minas. The king placed them in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.
18 Vua cũng làm một cái ngai lớn bằng ngà, bọc vàng ròng.
The king also made a great throne of ivory, and covered it with pure gold.
19 Ngai này có sáu nấc; thân cao ngai phía sau thì tròn; mỗi phía ngai có thanh nâng tay, và hai con sư tử đứng kề.
The throne had six steps, with a rounded top at the back. There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with lions standing beside the armrests.
20 Lại có mười hai con khác đứng trên sáu nấc, nơi hữu và tả: chẳng có nước nào làm ngai giống như vậy.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one on opposite ends of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
21 Hết thảy các chén uống của vua Sa-lô-môn đều bằng vàng, và những khí dụng trong cung rừng Li-ban đều cũng bằng vàng ròng. Chẳng có chi là bằng bạc: trong đời vua Sa-lô-môn, người ta chẳng kể bạc là chi.
All of King Solomon's drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. No silver was used, because it was not valued in the days of Solomon.
22 Vì đoàn tàu Ta-rê-si của vua mỗi ba năm một lần vượt biển với đoàn tàu của Hi-ram, đem về vàng, bạc, ngà voi, con khỉ, và con công.
The king had a fleet of ships from Tarshish crewed by Hiram's sailors. Once every three years the ships of Tarshish would arrive with a cargo of gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
23 Ấy vậy, vua Sa-lô-môn trổi hơn các vua thế gian về sự giàu có và sự khôn ngoan.
King Solomon was greater than any other king on earth in wealth and wisdom.
24 Cả thiên hạ đều tìm kiếm mặt Sa-lô-môn đặng nghe sự khôn ngoan mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã để trong lòng người.
The whole world wanted to meet Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had placed in his mind.
25 Cứ hằng năm, theo lệ định, mọi người đều đem đến dâng vật mình tiến cống cho vua, nào chậu bằng bạc và bằng vàng, áo xống, binh khí, thuốc thơm, ngựa, và la.
Year after year, every visitor would bring gifts—articles of silver and gold, clothes, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
26 Sa-lô-môn cũng nhóm xe và lính kị; có một ngàn bốn trăm xe và mười hai ngàn lính kị, để trong các thành chứa xe, và tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, gần bên vua.
Solomon accumulated 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen. He kept them in the chariot towns, and also with him in Jerusalem.
27 Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem vua làm cho bạc ra thường như đá, và cây bá hương nhiều như cây sung mọc nơi đồng bằng.
The king made silver as plentiful in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar wood as plentiful as sycamore-figs in the foothills.
28 Vua Sa-lô-môn do nơi Ê-díp-tô mà được ngựa; một đoàn con buôn của vua đi kiếm mua từng bầy, giá phải chăng.
Solomon's horses were imported from Egypt and Kue—the royal merchants purchased them in Kue.
29 Mỗi cỗ xe mua ở xứ Ê-díp-tô và dẫn về Giê-ru-sa-lem, giá đáng sáu trăm siếc lơ bạc, còn mỗi con ngựa giá đáng một trăm năm mươi siếc lơ. Các vua dân Hê-tít và vua Sy-ri cũng theo giá ấy, nhờ những con buôn của vua mua về.
A chariot imported from Egypt cost six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse a hundred and fifty. They also exported them to all the Hittite kings, and to the Aramean kings.
