1 Bu nedenle sen, ey başkasını yargılayan insan, kim olursan ol, özrün yoktur. Başkasını yargıladığın konuda kendini mahkûm ediyorsun. Çünkü ey yargılayan sen, aynı şeyleri yapıyorsun.
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whosoever you are that judge: for wherein you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you that judge do the same things.
2 Böyle davrananları Tanrı'nın haklı olarak yargıladığını biliriz.
But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 Bu gibi şeyleri yapanları yargılayan, ama aynısını yapan ey insan, Tanrı'nın yargısından kaçabileceğini mi sanıyorsun?
And think you this, O man, that judge them which do such things, and do the same, that you shall escape the judgment of God?
4 Tanrı'nın sınırsız iyiliğini, hoşgörüsünü, sabrını hor mu görüyorsun? O'nun iyiliğinin seni tövbeye yönelttiğini bilmiyor musun?
Or despise you the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
5 İnatçılığın ve tövbesiz yüreğin yüzünden Tanrı'nın adil yargısının açıklanacağı gazap günü için kendine karşı gazap biriktiriyorsun.
But after your hardness and refusing to repent heart treasure up unto yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Tanrı “herkese, yaptıklarının karşılığını verecektir.”
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 Sürekli iyilik ederek yücelik, saygınlık, ölümsüzlük arayanlara sonsuz yaşam verecek. (aiōnios g166)
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: (aiōnios g166)
8 Bencillerin, gerçeğe uymayıp haksızlık peşinden gidenlerin üzerineyse gazap ve öfke yağdıracak.
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Kötülük eden herkese –önce Yahudi'ye, sonra Yahudi olmayana– sıkıntı ve elem verecek; iyilik eden herkese –yine önce Yahudi'ye, sonra Yahudi olmayana– yücelik, saygınlık, esenlik verecektir.
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 Çünkü Tanrı insanlar arasında ayrım yapmaz.
For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 Kutsal Yasa'yı bilmeden günah işleyenler Yasa olmadan da mahvolacaklar. Yasa'yı bildikleri halde günah işleyenlerse Yasa'yla yargılanacaklar.
For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 Çünkü Tanrı katında aklanacak olanlar Yasa'yı işitenler değil, yerine getirenlerdir.
(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 Kutsal Yasa'dan yoksun uluslar Yasa'nın gereklerini kendiliklerinden yaptıkça, Yasa'dan habersiz olsalar bile kendi yasalarını koymuş olurlar.
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Böylelikle Kutsal Yasa'nın gerektirdiklerinin yüreklerinde yazılı olduğunu gösterirler. Vicdanları buna tanıklık eder. Düşünceleriyse onları ya suçlar ya da savunur.
Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another; )
16 Yaydığım Müjde'ye göre Tanrı'nın, insanları gizlice yaptıkları şeylerden ötürü İsa Mesih aracılığıyla yargılayacağı gün böyle olacaktır.
In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
17 Ya sen? Kendine Yahudi diyor, Kutsal Yasa'ya dayanıp Tanrı'yla övünüyorsun.
Behold, you are called a Jew, and rest in the law, and make your boast of God,
18 Tanrı'nın isteğini biliyorsun. En üstün değerleri ayırt etmeyi Yasa'dan öğrenmişsin.
And know his will, and approve the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
19 Kutsal Yasa'da bilginin ve gerçeğin özüne kavuşmuş olarak körlerin kılavuzu, karanlıkta kalanların ışığı, akılsızların eğiticisi, çocukların öğretmeni olduğuna inanmışsın.
And are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which have the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21 Öyleyse başkasına öğretirken, kendine de öğretmez misin? Çalmamayı öğütlerken, çalar mısın?
You therefore which teach another, teach you not yourself? you that preach a man should not steal, do you steal?
22 “Zina etmeyin” derken, zina eder misin? Putlardan tiksinirken, tapınakları yağmalar mısın?
You that say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? you that abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege?
23 Kutsal Yasa'yla övünürken, Yasa'ya karşı gelerek Tanrı'yı aşağılar mısın?
You that make your boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonour you God?
24 Nitekim şöyle yazılmıştır: “Sizin yüzünüzden uluslar arasında Tanrı'nın adına küfrediliyor.”
For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
25 Kutsal Yasa'yı yerine getirirsen, sünnetin elbet yararı vardır. Ama Yasa'ya karşı gelirsen, sünnetli olmanın hiçbir anlamı kalmaz.
For circumcision verily profits, if you keep the law: but if you be a breaker of the law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision.
26 Bu nedenle, sünnetsizler Yasa'nın buyruklarına uyarsa, sünnetli sayılmayacak mı?
Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
27 Sen Kutsal Yazılar'a ve sünnete sahip olduğun halde Yasa'yı çiğnersen, bedence sünnetli olmayan ama Yasa'ya uyan kişi seni yargılamayacak mı?
And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfill the law, judge you, who by the letter and circumcision do transgress the law?
28 Çünkü ne dıştan Yahudi olan gerçek Yahudi'dir, ne de görünüşte, bedensel olan sünnet gerçek sünnettir.
For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 Ancak içten Yahudi olan Yahudi'dir. Sünnet de yürekle ilgilidir; yazılı yasanın değil, Ruh'un işidir. İçten Yahudi olan kişi, insanların değil, Tanrı'nın övgüsünü kazanır.
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, (pneuma) and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
