1 İsa'nın öğrencilerinin sayıca çoğaldığı o günlerde, Grekçe konuşan Yahudiler, günlük yardım dağıtımında kendi dullarına gereken ilginin gösterilmediğini ileri sürerek İbranice konuşan Yahudiler'den yakınmaya başladılar.
Now in those days, when the number of the talmidim was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.

And these words pleased the whole gathering. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Ruach ha-Kodesh, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;
whom they set before the emissaries. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 Böylece Tanrı'nın sözü yayılıyor, Yeruşalim'deki öğrencilerin sayısı arttıkça artıyor, kâhinlerden birçoğu da iman çağrısına uyuyordu.
The word of God increased and the number of the talmidim multiplied greatly in Jerusalem; and a large group of the cohanim were obedient to the faith.
8 Tanrı'nın lütfuyla ve kudretle dolu olan İstefanos, halk arasında büyük belirtiler ve harikalar yapıyordu.
Stephen, full of grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Ne var ki, Azatlılar Havrası diye bilinen havranın bazı üyeleri ve Kirene'den, İskenderiye'den, Kilikya'dan ve Asya İli'nden bazı kişiler İstefanos'la çekişmeye başladılar.
But some of those who were of the synagogue called "The Libertines," and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.
10 Ama İstefanos'un konuşmasındaki bilgeliğe ve Ruh'a karşı koyamadılar.
They weren't able to withstand the wisdom and the Ruach by which he spoke.

Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God."

They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,
13 Getirdikleri yalancı tanıklar, “Bu adam durmadan bu kutsal yere ve Yasa'ya karşı konuşuyor” dediler.
and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the Law.
14 “‘Nasıralı İsa burayı yıkacak, Musa'nın bize emanet ettiği töreleri de değiştirecek’ dediğini duyduk.”
For we have heard him say that this Yeshua the Natzrati will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us."
15 Kurul'da oturanların hepsi, İstefanos'a baktıklarında yüzünün bir melek yüzüne benzediğini gördüler.
All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.
