< Saame 39 >

1 Ki he Takimuʻa ko Situtuni, ko e Saame ʻa Tevita. Naʻa ku pehē, “Te u vakai ki hoku ngaahi hala, telia naʻaku angahala ʻi hoku ʻelelo: te u ʻai ʻae noʻo ki hoku ngutu, ʻi he kei ʻi hoku ʻao ʻae angakovi.”
I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
2 Naʻaku noa, ʻi he fakalongo pē, naʻaku taʻofi au mei he lea, ʻio, mei he lelei; pea naʻe tupu ai ʻeku mamahi.
I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
3 Naʻe vela hoku loto ʻiate au, pea lolotonga ʻeku fifili naʻe vela ʻae afi: pea u toki lea ʻaki hoku ʻelelo,
My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,
4 “ʻE Sihova, ke ke fakaʻilo kiate au hoku ngataʻanga, mo hono fuofua ʻo hoku ngaahi ʻaho, pe ko e hā ia; koeʻuhi ke u ʻilo ki hono lahi ʻo ʻeku vaivai.”
Yhwh, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
5 Vakai, kuo ke ngaohi hoku ngaahi ʻaho ke tatau mo e ʻaofinima pe taha; pea ko ʻeku moʻui ʻoku hangē ko e meʻa noa pē ʻi ho ʻao: ko e moʻoni ko e tangata kotoa pē ʻi heʻene tuʻumaʻu ko e mātuʻaki vaʻinga ia. (Sila)
Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. (Selah)
6 Ko e moʻoni ʻoku ʻalu ʻae tangata kotoa pē ʻi he ʻata loi: ko e moʻoni kuo nau mamahi taʻeʻaonga: ʻoku ne tānaki ʻae koloa, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻilo pe ko hai te ne maʻu ia.
Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
7 Pea ko eni, “ʻE Sihova, ko e hā ʻoku ou tatali ai? ʻOku ʻiate koe pē ʻeku ʻamanaki lelei.
And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
8 Fakamoʻui au mei heʻeku ngaahi talangataʻa kotoa pē: ʻoua naʻa ke ngaohi au ko e manukiʻanga ʻoe vale.”
Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.
9 Naʻaku noa, naʻe ʻikai te u mafaʻa hoku ngutu; koeʻuhi ko koe naʻa ke fai ia.
I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.
10 Toʻo atu hoʻo tā ʻiate au: kuo u ʻauha ʻi he tā ʻaho nima.
Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.
11 ‌ʻOka ke ka tautea ʻae tangata ʻaki ʻae tākitala ʻi heʻene hia, ʻoku ke pule ke mole atu hono lelei ʻo hangē ko e ane: ko e moʻoni ko e vaʻinga ʻae tangata kotoa pē. (Sila)
When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. (Selah)
12 Fanongo mai ki heʻeku lotu, ʻE Sihova, mo ke fakafanongo ki heʻeku tangi; ʻoua naʻa ke fakalongo pē ʻi hoku ngaahi loʻimata: he ko e muli au ʻi ho ʻao, mo e ʻāunofo, ʻo hangē ko ʻeku ngaahi tamai kotoa pē.
Hear my prayer, O Yhwh, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.
13 Tuku siʻi ai pe au, koeʻuhi ke u toe maʻu ʻeku mālohi, ʻi he teʻeki ai te u ʻalu ʻi heni, pea te u ʻikai leva.
O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
