1 ‌ʻOku langa hake hono fale ʻe he fefine kotoa pē ʻoku poto: ka ʻoku holoki hifo ia ʻe he vale ʻaki hono nima.
Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
2 Ko ia ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻene angatonu ʻoku manavahē ia kia Sihova: ka ko ia ʻoku pikopiko ʻi hono ngaahi hala ʻoku ne fehiʻa kiate ia.
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Yhwh: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
3 ‌ʻOku ai ʻae vaʻa ʻoe laukau ʻi he ngutu ʻoe vale: ka ʻoku fakamoʻui ʻae poto ʻe honau loungutu.
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 ‌ʻI he potu ʻoku ʻikai ai ha fanga pulu ʻoku maʻa ai ʻae ʻaiʻanga kai: ka ʻoku ai ʻae tupu lahi ʻi he mālohi ʻoe pulu.
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 ‌ʻE ʻikai faʻa loi ʻae fakamoʻoni angatonu: ka ʻe lea loi pe ʻae fakamoʻoni loi.
A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
6 ‌ʻOku kumi ʻae poto ʻe he manuki, ka ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻilo ia: ka ʻoku maʻungofua ʻae poto kiate ia ʻoku fakakaukau.
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
7 ‌ʻAlu atu mei he ʻao ʻoe tangata vale, ʻoka ke ka mamata ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ʻae loungutu ʻoe poto.
Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
8 Ko e poto eni ʻae fakamākukanga ke ne ʻilo pe hono hala: ka ko e vaʻinga ʻae vale ko e kākā ia.
The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
9 ‌ʻOku manukiʻi ʻae angahala ʻe he kakai vale: ka ʻoku ai ʻae lelei ʻi he haʻohaʻonga ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
10 ‌ʻOku ʻilo ʻe he loto ʻa ʻene mamahi ʻaʻana: pea ʻoku ʻikai ke kau ha taha kehe ʻi heʻene fiefia.
The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
11 ‌ʻE holoki hifo ʻae fale ʻoe angahala: ka ʻe maʻu pe ʻae lelei ʻi he fale fehikitaki ʻoe angatonu.
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
12 ‌ʻOku ai ʻae hala ʻoku matamata totonu ki he tangata, ka ko hono ngataʻanga ko e ngaahi hala ʻoe mate.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
13 ‌ʻI he lolotonga ʻae kata, ʻoku mamahi ai ʻae loto: pea ko e ikuʻanga ʻoe vākē ko ia ko e māfasia.
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
14 ‌ʻE fakafonu ʻaia ʻoku fakaholomui ʻi loto ʻaki hono ngaahi hala ʻoʻona: pea ʻe mākona ʻae tangata angalelei meiate ia pe.
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
15 ‌ʻOku tui ʻe he taʻepoto ki he lea kotoa pē: ka ʻoku tokanga lahi ʻaia ʻoku anga fakapotopoto ki heʻene ʻalu.
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
16 ‌ʻOku manavahē ʻae tangata poto, ʻo ne fakamamaʻo mei he kovi: ka ʻoku fakalili ʻae vale, mo faʻa polepole.
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
17 ‌ʻOku fai vale ia ʻaia ʻoku ʻita vave: pea ʻoku tupu ʻae fehiʻa ki he tangata ʻoku filioʻi kovi.
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
18 ‌ʻOku maʻu ʻe he fakavalevale ʻae vale: ka ʻoku tatā ʻaki ʻae poto ʻaia ʻoku fakamākukanga.
The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 ‌ʻOku punou ʻae angakovi ʻi he ʻao ʻoe angalelei: pea mo e angahala ʻi he matapā ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20 ‌ʻOku fehiʻanekina ʻae tangata masiva ʻe hono kaungāʻapi: ka ʻoku toko lahi ʻakinautolu ʻoku ʻofa ki he koloaʻia.
The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
21 Ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki hono kaungāʻapi ko e fai hala ia: ka ʻoku monūʻia ia ʻaia ʻoku angaʻofa ki he masiva.
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
22 ‌ʻIkai ʻoku hē ʻakinautolu ʻoku filioʻi kovi? Ka ʻe ʻoe kakai ʻoku filioʻi lelei ʻae ʻaloʻofa mo e moʻoni.
Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
23 ‌ʻOku ai hono ʻaonga ʻoe ngāue kotoa pē: ka ko e faʻa lea ʻae loungutu ʻoku tupu ai ʻae masiva.
In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
24 Ko e koloa ʻae poto ko honau tatā ia: ka ko e fai vale ʻae vale ko honau vale ia.
The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
25 ‌ʻOku fakamoʻui ʻae ngaahi laumālie ʻe he fakamoʻoni ʻoku moʻoni: ka ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae loi ʻe he fakamoʻoni loi.
A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
26 ‌ʻOku ai ʻae falala mālohi ʻi he manavahē kia Sihova: pea ʻe maʻu ʻe heʻene fānau ʻae potu hūfanga.
In the fear of Yhwh is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 Ko e manavahē kia Sihova ko e matavai ia ʻoe moʻui, ke tau hao ai mei he ngaahi tauhele ʻoe mate.
The fear of Yhwh is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
28 ‌ʻOku ongoongo lahi ha tuʻi ʻi he toko lahi ʻo hono kakai: ka ko e masiva kakai ko e vaivaiʻanga ia ʻoe houʻeiki.
In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
29 ‌ʻOku poto lahi ia ʻaia ʻoku fakatuotuai ʻene ʻita: ka ko ia ʻoku ʻoho vave hono loto ʻoku fakahikihiki ʻe ia ʻae vale.
He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30 Ko e loto angamalū ko e moʻui ia ʻae kakano: ka koe meheka koe fakapopo ia ʻoe ngaahi hui.
A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31 Ko ia ʻoku fakamālohiʻi ʻae masiva ʻoku manukiʻi ʻe ia ʻa hono Tupuʻanga: ka ko ia ʻoku fakaʻapaʻapa kiate ia, ʻoku angaʻofa ia ki he masiva.
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
32 ‌ʻOku kapusi atu ʻae angakovi ʻi heʻene angahala: ka ʻoku maʻu ʻe he māʻoniʻoni ʻae ʻamanaki lelei ʻi heʻene mate.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
33 ‌ʻOku nofo ʻae poto ʻi he loto ʻo ia ʻoku maʻu ʻae faʻa ʻilo: ka ʻoku fakahā mai ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he loto ʻoe kakai vale.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
34 ‌ʻOku hiki hake ʻe he māʻoniʻoni ʻae puleʻanga. ka ko e meʻa fakamā ʻae angahala ki he ngaahi puleʻanga.
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
35 ‌ʻOku ʻofeina ʻe he tuʻi ʻae tamaioʻeiki ʻoku poto: ka ʻoku houhau ia kiate ia ʻoku tupu mei ai ʻae mā.
The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
