Mātiu 9
1 Pea naʻe heka vaka ia, ʻo folau atu, ʻo haʻu ki hono kolo.
He entered into a boat and crossed over, and came into his own city.
2 Pea vakai, naʻa nau ʻomi kiate ia ʻae tangata naʻe mahaki tete, ʻoku tokoto ʻi he mohenga: pea mamata ʻa Sisu ki heʻenau tui, pea pehē ʻe ia ki he mahaki tete; “Foha, ke ke fiemālie; kuo fakamolemole hoʻo ngaahi angahala.”
Behold, they brought to him a man who was paralysed, lying on a bed. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, cheer up! Your sins are forgiven you.”
3 Pea vakai, kuo pehē ʻe he niʻihi ʻoe kau tangata tohi ʻi honau loto, “ʻOku lea fie ʻOtua ʻae tangata ni.”
Behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man blasphemes.”
4 Pea pehē ʻe Sisu, ʻi heʻene ʻilo ʻenau ngaahi mahalo, “Ko e hā ʻoku mou mahalo kovi ai ʻi homou loto?
Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?
5 He ʻoku faingofua ʻae fē, ke lea, ‘Kuo fakamolemole hoʻo ngaahi angahala;’ pe ko e lea ‘Tuʻu hake ʻo ʻeveʻeva?’
For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Get up, and walk’?
6 Ka koeʻuhi ke mou ʻilo kuo ʻi he Foha ʻoe tangata ʻae mālohi ʻi māmani ke fakamolemole ʻae angahala, (pea toki pehē ʻe ia ki he mahaki tete, ) “Tuʻu hake, toʻo ho mohenga, ʻo ʻalu ki ho fale.”
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—” (then he said to the paralytic), “Get up, and take up your mat, and go to your house.”
7 Pea tuʻu hake ia, ʻo ʻalu ki hono fale.
He arose and departed to his house.
8 Pea ʻi he mamata ki ai ʻae kakai, naʻa nau ofo, ʻo fakamālō ki he ʻOtua, ʻaia kuo ne tuku ʻae mālohi pehē ki he tangata.
But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
9 Pea ʻi he ʻalu atu ʻa Sisu mei ai, naʻa ne mamata ki he tangata ko Mātiu hono hingoa, ʻoku nofo ʻi he tukuhauʻanga: pea pehē ʻe ia kiate ia, “Muimui ʻiate au.” Pea tuʻu hake ia, ʻo muimui ʻiate ia.
As Jesus passed by from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, “Follow me.” He got up and followed him.
10 Pea kuo nofo ʻa Sisu ʻi he fale ke kai, vakai, naʻe haʻu ʻae tokolahi ʻoe tānaki tukuhau mo e angahala, ʻonau nonofo mo ia mo ʻene kau ākonga.
As he sat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.
11 Pea kuo mamata ki ai ʻae kau Fālesi, pea nau pehē ki heʻene kau ākonga, “Ko e hā ʻoku kai fakataha ai homou ʻEiki mo e kau tānaki tukuhau mo e angahala?”
When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 Pea kuo fanongo ki ai ʻa Sisu, pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku ʻikai ʻaonga ʻae faitoʻo kiate kinautolu ʻoku mālōlō, ka ki he mahaki.
When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.
13 Ka mou ʻalu ʻo kumi ki hono ʻuhinga ʻoe [lea ni], ‘ʻOku ou loto ki he angaʻofa, kae ʻikai ki he feilaulau:’ he naʻe ʻikai te u haʻu ke ui ʻae māʻoniʻoni, ka ko e angahala ki he fakatomala.”
But you go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
14 Pea toki haʻu kiate ia ʻae kau ākonga ʻa Sione, ʻonau pehē, “Ko e hā ʻoku mau faʻa ʻaukai ai mo e kau Fālesi, ka ʻoku ʻikai ʻaukai ʻa hoʻo kau ākonga?”
Then John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”
15 Pea pehēange ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻE faʻa tangi ʻae kāinga ʻoe tangata taʻane, ʻoku kei ʻiate kinautolu ʻae tangata taʻane? Ka ʻe hoko ʻae ngaahi ʻaho, ʻe ʻave ai ʻae tangata taʻane ʻiate kinautolu, pea te nau toki ʻaukai ai.
Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
16 ʻOku ʻikai ha taha te ne ʻai ha konga meʻa foʻou ki he kofu motuʻa, he ko ia ʻoku ʻai ke ʻoposi ʻaki ʻoku mafaufau ai ʻae kofu, pea ʻāsili ai hono mahaehae.
No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made.
17 ʻOku ʻikai foki ʻutu ʻe he kakai ʻae uaine foʻou ki he ngaahi hina motuʻa: ka pehē, ʻe mahaehae ʻae hina, pea tafe kituʻa ʻae uaine, pea maumau ʻae ngaahi hina: ka ʻoku nau ʻutu ʻae uaine foʻou ki he ngaahi hina foʻou, pea tolonga ai pe fakatouʻosi.”
Neither do people put new wine into old wine skins, or else the skins would burst, and the wine be spilled, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wine skins, and both are preserved.”
18 Pea lolotonga ʻene lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kinautolu, vakai, naʻe haʻu ʻae pule ʻe taha, ʻo hū kiate ia, ʻo pehē, “Ko hoku ʻofefine kuo mate ni: ka ke haʻu ʻo hilifaki ho nima kiate ia, pea ʻe moʻui ia.”
While he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshipped him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”
19 Pea tuʻu hake ʻa Sisu, pea mo ʻene kau ākonga ʻo muimui ʻiate ia.
Jesus got up and followed him, as did his disciples.
20 Pea vakai, ko e fefine naʻe mahaki ʻi he taʻu ʻe hongofulu ma ua ʻi he ʻau ʻae toto, naʻe haʻu ʻo muimui ʻiate ia, pea ala ki he kapa ʻo hono kofu:
Behold, a woman who had a discharge of blood for twelve years came behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment;
21 He naʻe pehē ʻe ia ʻi hono loto, “Kapau te u faʻa ala ki hono kofu pe, te u moʻui ai.”
for she said within herself, “If I just touch his garment, I will be made well.”
22 Pea tafoki ki mui ʻa Sisu, ʻo ne mamata kiate ia, pea ne pehē, “ʻOfefine, ke ke fiemālie; kuo fakamoʻui koe ʻe hoʻo tui.” Pea fakamoʻui ʻae fefine talu mei he feituʻulaʻā ko ia.
But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, “Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.
23 Pea kuo hū ʻa Sisu ki he fale ʻoe pule, ʻo mamata ki he kau ifi fangufangu, mo e kakai ʻoku tangilāulau,
When Jesus came into the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder,
24 pea ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Mou tutuku: he ʻoku ʻikai mate ʻae taʻahine, ka ʻoku mohe.” Pea naʻa nau kata manukiʻi ia.
he said to them, “Make room, because the girl isn’t dead, but sleeping.” They were ridiculing him.
25 Pea kuo tuku atu ʻae kakai, pea hū ange ia, pea puke ʻe ia hono nima, pea tuʻu hake ʻae taʻahine.
But when the crowd was sent out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the girl arose.
26 Pea mafola atu hono ongoongo ki he fonua kotoa pē ko ia.
The report of this went out into all that land.
27 Pea ʻi he ʻalu ʻa Sisu mei ai, naʻe muimui ʻiate ia ʻae ongo tangata kui, ʻo na tangi, ʻo pehē, “Ko e ʻAlo ʻo Tevita, ʻaloʻofa mai kiate kimaua.”
As Jesus passed by from there, two blind men followed him, calling out and saying, “Have mercy on us, son of David!”
28 Pea kuo hū ia ki he fale, pea haʻu kiate ia ʻae ongo tangata kui: pea pehēange ʻe Sisu kiate kinaua, “ʻOku mo tui ʻoku ou mafai ʻa eni?” Pea na talaange kiate ia, “ʻIo, ʻEiki.”
When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They told him, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Pea ala ia ki hona mata, mo ne pehē, “Ke hoko kiate kimoua ʻo hangē ko hoʻomo tui.”
Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”
30 Pea ʻā ai hona mata; pea fekau mālohi ʻe Sisu kiate kinaua, ʻo pehē, “Vakai ke ʻoua naʻa ʻilo ia ʻe ha taha.”
Then their eyes were opened. Jesus strictly commanded them, saying, “See that no one knows about this.”
31 Ka kuo na ō, pea na ongoongo atu ia ʻi he fonua kotoa pē ko ia.
But they went out and spread abroad his fame in all that land.
32 Pea ʻi heʻenau ʻalu atu, vakai, ʻoku nau ʻomi kiate ia ʻae tangata noa ʻoku ʻulusino ai ʻae tēvolo.
As they went out, behold, a mute man who was demon possessed was brought to him.
33 Pea kuo kapusi atu ʻae tēvolo, pea lea ai ʻae noa: pea ofo ʻae kakai, ʻonau pehē, “[Talu mei muʻa ]naʻe ʻikai ʻaupito mamata ʻi ʻIsileli ha meʻa pehē.”
When the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. The multitudes marvelled, saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
34 Ka naʻe pehē ʻe he kau Fālesi, “ʻOku kapusi ʻe ia ʻae kau tēvolo ʻi he ʻeiki ʻoe kau tēvolo.”
But the Pharisees said, “By the prince of the demons, he casts out demons.”
35 Pea naʻe fononga fano ʻa Sisu ki he ngaahi kolo kotoa pē mo e potu kakai, ʻo akonaki ʻi honau ngaahi falelotu, ʻo malangaʻaki ʻae ongoongolelei ʻoe puleʻanga, pea fakamoʻui ʻae mahaki kotoa pē mo e hangatāmaki kotoa pē ʻoe kakai.
Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness amongst the people.
36 Ka ʻi heʻene mamata ki he kakai, naʻe ʻofa mamahi ia kiate kinautolu, koeʻuhi naʻa nau māfasia pea tukuhāusia, ʻo hangē ko e fanga sipi taʻehanautauhi.
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them because they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.
37 Pea toki pehē ai ʻe ia ki heʻene kau ākonga, “Ko e moʻoni ʻoku lahi ʻae taʻu, ka ʻoku tokosiʻi ʻae kau ngāue;
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the labourers are few.
38 Ko ia mou lotu ki he ʻEiki ʻoe taʻu, koeʻuhi ke ne fekau atu ʻae kau ngāue ki heʻene taʻu.”
Pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send out labourers into his harvest.”
