Mātiu 3
1 ʻI he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia naʻe haʻu ʻa Sione ko e Papitaiso, ʻo malanga ʻi he toafa ʻo Siutea,
And in those days John the Immerser came, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea
2 ʻo pehē, “Mou fakatomala: he ʻoku ofi ʻae puleʻanga ʻoe langi.”
and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
3 He ko eni ia naʻe lea ki ai ʻae palōfita ko ʻIsaia, ʻo pehē, “Ko e leʻo ʻoe tokotaha ʻoku kalanga ʻi he toafa, ‘Mou teuteu ʻae hala ʻoe ʻEiki, fakatonutonu hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.’”
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'"
4 Pea naʻe kofu ʻae Sione ko ia ʻaki ʻae fulufuluʻi kāmeli, mo e noʻo kiliʻi manu ʻi hono noʻotanga vala; pea ko ʻene meʻakai, ko e heʻe mo e meʻa huʻamelie ʻoe vao.
Now John himself wore clothing made of camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5 Pea naʻe toki ʻalu kiate ia ʻa Selūsalema, mo Siutea kotoa pē, mo e potu fonua kotoa pē naʻe tuʻu ofi ki Sioatani,
Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him,
6 Ke papitaiso ʻiate ia ʻi Sioatani, ʻo vete ʻenau ngaahi angahala.
and they were immersed by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his immersion he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Ko ia mou fakahā ʻae ngaahi fua ʻoku ngali mo e fakatomala:
Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance,
9 Pea ʻoua te mou pehē ʻi homou loto, ‘Ko ʻemau tamai ʻa ʻEpalahame:’ he ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻoku faʻa fai ʻe he ʻOtua ke fakatupu ʻi he ngaahi maka ni ʻae fānau kia ʻEpalahame.
and do not think to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10 Pea ko eni, kuo tuku ʻae toki ki he tefito ʻoe ngaahi ʻakau: ko ia, ko e ʻakau kotoa pē ʻoku ʻikai tupu ai ʻae fua lelei, ʻe tā hifo ia, pea laku ki he afi.
"Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
11 Ko e moʻoni ʻoku ou papitaiso ʻakimoutolu ʻaki ʻae vai ki he fakatomala: ka ko ia ʻoku muimui ʻiate au ʻoku lahi ia ʻiate au, ʻoku ʻikai taau mo au ke u toʻo hono topuvaʻe: pea ʻe papitaiso ʻe ia ʻakimoutolu ʻaki ʻae Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni mo e afi.
I indeed immerse you in water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Ruach ha-Kodesh and with fire.
12 ʻOku ʻi hono nima ʻa hono ī, pea te ne fakamaʻa ʻaupito hono hahaʻanga, ʻo tānaki ʻa hono uite ki he feleoko; ka ʻe tutu ʻe ia ʻae kafukafu ʻaki ʻae afi taʻemate.”
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."
13 Pea toki haʻu ʻa Sisu mei Kaleli ki Sioatani kia Sione, ke papitaiso ʻiate ia.
Then Yeshua came from Galil to the Jordan to John, to be immersed by him.
14 Ka naʻe taʻofi ia ʻe Sione, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku ngali mo au ke u papitaiso ʻiate koe, pea ʻoku ke haʻu kiate au?”
But John would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be immersed by you, and you come to me?"
15 Pea lea ʻa Sisu kiate ia, ʻo pehēange, “Tuku ke fai eni: he ʻoku taau mo kitautolu ke fai ki he māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē.” Pea ne toki tuku ke fai ia.
But Yeshua, answering, said to him, "Allow it to happen now, for this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed him.
16 Pea kuo papitaiso ʻa Sisu, naʻe ʻalu hake leva ia mei he vai; pea vakai, kuo mavaeua ʻae langi kiate ia, pea mamata ia ki he Laumālie ʻoe ʻOtua ʻoku maliu hifo ʻo hangē ko e lupe, ʻo tuʻu mai kiate ia:
And Yeshua, when he was immersed, went up directly from the water; and look, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Ruach of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
17 Pea ʻiloange, ko e leʻo mei he langi, naʻe pehē, “Ko hoku ʻAlo ʻofaʻanga eni, ʻaia ʻoku ou fiemālie lahi ai.”
And look, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
