< Luke 11 >

1 Pea naʻe pehē, naʻe lotu ia ʻi he potu ʻe taha, pea hili ia, naʻe pehē ʻe he tokotaha ʻo ʻene kau ākonga kiate ia, “ʻEiki, akonakiʻi ʻakimautolu ke lotu, ʻo hangē ko e ako ʻa Sione ki heʻene kau ākonga.”
When he finished praying in a certain place, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as Yochanan also taught his disciples.”
2 Pea ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “ʻOka mou ka lotu, mou pehē, Ko ʻemau Tamai ʻoku ʻi he langi, Ke tāpuhā ho huafa. Ke hoko mai hoʻo pule. Ke fai ʻa māmani ki ho finangalo, ʻo hangē ʻi he langi.
He said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
3 Ke foaki mai kiate kimautolu haʻamau meʻakai ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 Pea ke fakamolemole kiate kimautolu ʻemau angahala; He ʻoku mau fakamolemole foki ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku angahala mai kiate kimautolu. Pea ʻoua naʻa tuku kimautolu ki he ʻahiʻahi; Kae fakamoʻui ʻakimautolu mei he kovi.”
Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”

He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
6 He ko e kāinga ʻoʻoku kuo haʻu kiate au ʻi he fononga, pea ʻoku ʻikai haʻaku meʻa ke tuku ki hono ʻao?’
for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’
7 Pea ʻe lea mai ʻaia ʻoku ʻi loto fale, ʻo pehē, ‘ʻOua te ke fakafiuʻi au; kuo tāpuni ʻae matapā, pea kuo mau ʻi he mohenga mo ʻeku fānau; ʻe ʻikai te u faʻa tuʻu hake ʻo foaki kiate koe.’
and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?
8 ‌ʻOku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻE ʻikai tuʻu hake ia ʻo foaki ai, koeʻuhi ko hono kāinga ia, ka ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene kole tāumaʻu, ʻe tuʻu hake ai ia, ʻo foaki kiate ia ʻo fakatatau mo ʻene masiva.
I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.
9 “Pea ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, Kole, pea ʻe foaki kiate kimoutolu; kumi, pea te mou ʻilo; tukituki, pea ʻe toʻo kiate kimoutolu.
“I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.
10 He ko ia ʻoku kole, ʻoku ne maʻu; pea ko ia ʻoku kumi, ʻoku ne ʻilo; pea ʻe toʻo kiate ia ʻoku tukituki.
For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.
11 Ko e tamai fē ʻiate kimoutolu, kapau ʻe kole mā ʻa hono foha, te ne ʻange ki ai ha maka? Pe ko e ika, ʻe tuku ʻae ika kae ʻatu ki ai ha ngata?
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?
12 Pe ʻi heʻene kole ʻae foʻi manu, te ne ʻatu ki ai ha sikopio?
Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he?
13 Ko ia kapau ʻoku mou ʻilo, ka ko e angakovi, ke foaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa lelei ki hoʻomou fānau; ʻe fēfē hono lahi hake ʻoe [fie ]foaki ʻe he Tamai ʻi he langi ʻae Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni kiate kinautolu ʻoku kole kiate ia?”
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
14 Pea naʻe kapusi ʻae tēvolo, ʻaia naʻe noa. Pea ʻi heʻene ʻalu kituʻa ʻae tēvolo, naʻe lea ʻae noa; pea ofo [ai ]ʻae kakai.
He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the multitudes marveled.
15 Ka naʻe pehē ʻe honau niʻihi, “ʻOku ne kapusi ʻae kau tēvolo ia Pelisipupe ko e ʻeiki ʻoe kau tēvolo.”
But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.”
16 Pea ʻahiʻahi ʻe he niʻihi, ʻonau kumi ʻiate ia ha fakaʻilonga mei he langi.
Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.
17 Ka naʻe ʻilo ʻe ia ʻenau mahalo, pea ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Ko e puleʻanga kotoa pē [ʻoku feʻiteʻitani, ]ʻe ʻauha ia; pea ko e fale ʻoku feʻiteʻitani, ʻe holo ia.
But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. A house divided against itself falls.
18 Pea kapau ʻe feʻiteʻitani ʻa Sētane kiate ia, ʻe tuʻu fēfē hono puleʻanga? He ʻoku mou pehē ʻoku ou kapusi ʻae kau tēvolo ia Pelisipupe.
If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
19 Pea kapau ʻoku ou kapusi ʻae kau tēvolo ʻia Pelisipupe, ʻoku kapusi ʻakinautolu ʻia hai ʻe homou ngaahi foha? Ko ia ko hoʻomou kau fakamaau [ʻakinautolu].
But if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
20 Pea kapau ʻoku ou kapusi ʻae kau tēvolo ʻaki ʻae louhiʻi nima ʻoe ʻOtua, tā kuo hoko moʻoni ʻae puleʻanga ʻoe ʻOtua kiate kimoutolu.
But if I by God’s finger cast out demons, then God’s Kingdom has come to you.
21 “ʻOka leʻohi hono fale ʻe ha tangata mālohi mo e mahafutau, ʻoku malu pe ʻene ngaahi meʻa:
“When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own dwelling, his goods are safe.
22 Ka ʻi he hoko kiate ia ha taha ʻoku mālohi lahi, ʻo ikuʻi ia, ʻoku ne faʻao ʻa ʻene mahafu kotoa pē naʻe falala ia ki ai, pea tufaki ʻene meʻa.
But when someone stronger attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him his whole armor in which he trusted, and divides his plunder.
23 “Ko ia ʻoku ʻikai kau mo au, ʻoku angatuʻu ia kiate au: pea ko ia ʻoku ʻikai te ma tānaki mo au, ʻoku fakahē ʻe ia.
“He who is not with me is against me. He who doesn’t gather with me scatters.
24 “ʻOka ʻalu ʻae laumālie ʻuli ʻi ha tangata, ʻoku ʻalu fano ia ʻi he ngaahi potu mōmoa, ʻo kumi mālōlōʻanga, kae ʻikai ʻilo [ia]; pea pehē ʻe ia, ‘Te u toe ʻalu ki hoku fale naʻaku haʻu mei ai.’
The unclean spirit, when he has gone out of the man, passes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will turn back to my house from which I came out.’
25 Pea ʻi heʻene haʻu, ʻoku ne ʻilo [ia ]kuo tafi mo teuteu.
When he returns, he finds it swept and put in order.
26 Pea toki ʻalu ai ia, ʻo ʻomi mo e laumālie ʻe toko fitu kehe ʻoku angahala lahi ʻiate ia; pea nau hū ʻo nofo ki ai: pea kovi lahi ʻa e [anga ]ki mui ʻae tangata ko ia ʻi heʻene [anga ]ʻi muʻa.
Then he goes and takes seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first.”
27 Pea pehē, naʻe lolotonga ʻene lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, mo e kalanga mai ʻae fefine mei he kakai, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku monūʻia ʻae manāva naʻa ne fua ʻaki koe, pea mo e huhu naʻa ke huhū ai.”
It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!”
28 Ka naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “ʻIo, ka ʻoku monūʻia lahi hake ʻakinautolu ʻoku nau fanongo ki he folofola ʻae ʻOtua, pea fai ki ai.”
But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”
29 Pea kuo lolofi mai ʻae kakai tokolahi, pea fua lea ia, [ʻo pehē], “Ko e toʻutangata angakovi eni; ʻoku nau kumi ʻae fakaʻilonga; ka ʻe ʻikai ha fakaʻilonga ʻe tuku ki ai, ka ko e fakaʻilonga ʻoe palōfita ko Siona.
When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
30 ‌ʻO hangē ko e fakaʻilonga ʻa Siona ki he kakai Ninive, ʻe pehē foki ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata ki he toʻutangata ni.
For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so the Son of Man will also be to this generation.
31 ‌ʻE tuʻu hake ʻae tuʻi-fefine ʻoe feituʻu tonga ʻi he fakamaau mo e kakai ʻoe toʻutangata ni, ʻo fakahalaʻia ia; he naʻe haʻu ia mei he potu mamaʻo ʻo māmani ke fanongo ki he poto ʻa Solomone; pea vakai, ʻoku ʻi heni ʻaia ʻoku lahi ʻia Solomone.
The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and will condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.
32 ‌ʻE tuʻu hake ʻae kakai ʻo Ninive ʻi he fakamaau mo e toʻutangata ni, ʻo fakahalaʻia ia: he naʻa nau fakatomala ʻi he malanga ʻa Siona; pea vakai, ʻoku ʻi heni ʻaia ʻoku lahi ʻia Siona.
The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for they repented at the proclaiming of Jonah; and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.
33 “ʻOku ʻikai ha taha te ne tutu ha maama, pea tuku [ia ]ki ha potu lilo, pe ʻi he lalo puha fua, ka ki he tuʻunga, koeʻuhi ke mamata ki he maama ʻakinautolu ʻoku hū ki ai.
“No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light.
34 Ko e maama ʻoe sino ʻae mata: ko ia kapau ʻe haohaoa ho mata, ʻe pito foki ho sino kotoa ʻi he maama; ko ia kapau ʻoku kovi [ho mata], ʻe fonu foki ho sino ʻi he poʻuli.
The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness.
35 Ko ia vakai naʻa hoko ʻae maama ʻoku ʻiate koe koe poʻuli.
Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness.
36 Ko ia kapau ʻe māmangia ho sino kotoa, pea taʻefakapoʻuli hano potu, ʻe māmangia kotoa pē, ʻo hangē ko e fakamaama ʻaki koe ʻae fuʻu ulo ʻoe maama.”
If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light.”
37 Pea lolotonga ʻene lea, mo ʻene kole ʻae Fālesi ʻe tokotaha kiate ia ke na kai mo ia: pea ʻalu ia ki ai, ʻo nofo hifo ke kai.
Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in and sat at the table.
38 Pea ofo ʻae Fālesi ʻi heʻene mamata naʻe ʻikai te ne tomuʻa fanofano, pea toki kai.
When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner.
39 Pea pehē ʻe he ʻEiki kiate ia, “Ko eni ʻakimoutolu, ʻae kau Fālesi, ʻoku mou fakamaʻa ʻae tuʻa ipu inu mo e ipu kai, ka ʻoku fonu homou loto ʻi he fakamālohi mo e angakovi.
The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.
40 ‌ʻAe kau vale, ʻikai ko ia pe naʻa ne ngaohi ʻaia ʻoku ʻituʻa, naʻe ngaohi foki ʻaia ʻoku ʻi loto?
You foolish ones, didn’t he who made the outside make the inside also?
41 Ka mou foaki muʻa ʻae ngaahi meʻaʻofa mei he meʻa ʻoku mou maʻu; pea vakai, ʻoku maʻa ʻae meʻa kotoa pē kiate kimoutolu.
But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.
42 “Kae malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ʻae kau Fālesi! He ʻoku mou tukuhau ʻi he mini mo e pekano mo e ngaahi ʻakau iiki kotoa pē, ka ʻoku mou taʻetokanga ki he fakamaau mo e ʻofa ki he ʻOtua: naʻe totonu ke fai eni, kaeʻoua naʻa liʻaki ʻena.
But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and God’s love. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
43 “ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ʻae kau Fālesi! He ʻoku mou manako ki he ngaahi nofoʻanga māʻolunga ʻi he ngaahi falelotu, mo e fetapa ʻi he ngaahi potu fakatau.
Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces.
44 ‌ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ʻae kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! He ʻoku mou tatau mo e ngaahi faʻitoka ʻoku ʻikai hā mai, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻilo [ia ]ʻe he kakai ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ai.”
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like hidden graves, and the men who walk over them don’t know it.”
45 Pea toki lea mai ʻae tokotaha ʻoe kau akonaki ʻi he fono, ʻo pehēange kiate ia, “ʻEiki, ʻi hoʻo pehē mai, ʻoku ke valoki ai ʻakimautolu foki.”
One of the Torah scholars answered him, “Rabbi, in saying this you insult us also.”
46 Pea pehē ʻe ia, “ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu foki, ʻae kau akonaki ʻi he fono! He ʻoku mou hili ki he kakai ʻae ngaahi kavenga ʻoku fakamamahi hono fua, ka ʻoku ʻikai ala ʻekimoutolu haʻamou tuhu ʻe taha ki he ngaahi kavenga.
He said, “Woe to you Torah scholars also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won’t even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.
47 ‌ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu! He ʻoku mou langa ʻae ngaahi fonualoto ʻoe kau palōfita, ʻakinautolu naʻe tāmateʻi ʻe hoʻomou ngaahi tamai.
Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
48 Ko e moʻoni ʻoku mou fakamoʻoni ʻoku mou leleiʻia ʻi he faianga ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi tamai: he naʻa nau tāmateʻi ʻakinautolu, pea ʻoku mou langa honau ngaahi fonualoto.
So you testify and consent to the works of your fathers. For they killed them, and you build their tombs.
49 Ko ia naʻe pehē ai foki ʻae poto ʻae ʻOtua, ‘Te u fekau atu kiate kinautolu ʻae kau palōfita mo e kau ʻaposetolo, pea ko honau niʻihi te nau tāmateʻi mo fakatanga:’
Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and emissaries; and some of them they will kill and persecute,
50 Koeʻuhi ke ʻeke ki he toʻutangata ni ʻae toto ʻoe kau palōfita kotoa pē, ʻaia naʻe lilingi talu mei he tupuʻanga ʻo māmani;
that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,
51 Mei he toto ʻo ʻEpeli, ʻo aʻu ki he toto ʻo Sakalaia, ʻaia naʻe tāmateʻi ʻi he vahaʻa ʻoe ʻesifeilaulau mo e potu toputapu: ko e moʻoni ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻE ʻeke ia mei he toʻutangata ni.
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.
52 “ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ʻae kau akonaki ʻi he fono! He kuo mou ʻave ʻae ki ʻoe ʻilo, pea ʻoku ʻikai te mou hū ki ai ʻakimoutolu, pea ko kinautolu naʻe teu ke hū ki ai naʻa mou taʻofi.”
Woe to you Torah scholars! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”
53 Pea ʻi heʻene lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kinautolu, naʻe kamata fai fakamatalili mo langaʻi ia ʻe he kau tangata tohi mo e kau Fālesi, ke ne lea ki he ngaahi meʻa lahi:
As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,
54 ‌ʻO nau lamasi, mo kumi ke femioʻekina ia mei hono ngutu, koeʻuhi ke nau talatalaakiʻi ia.
lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.
