< Kolose 2 >

1 He ko hoku loto ke mou ʻilo ʻae feinga lahi ʻoku ʻiate au kiate kimoutolu, pea kiate kinautolu ʻi Leotisia, pea kiate kinautolu ʻoku teʻeki ai te nau mamata ki hoku mata ʻi he sino;
For I would have you know in how severe a struggle I am engaged on behalf of you and the brethren in Laodicea and of all who have not known me personally,
2 Koeʻuhi ke fiemālie honau loto, kuo fehokotaki ʻi he ʻofa, ki he koloa kotoa pē ʻoe fakapapau lahi ʻoe ʻilo, ki he fakahā ʻoe meʻa fakalilolilo ʻae ʻOtua, ʻio, ʻae Tamai, pea mo Kalaisi;
in order that their hearts may be cheered, they themselves being welded together in love and enjoying all the advantages of a reasonable certainty, till at last they attain the full knowledge of God's truth, which is Christ Himself.
3 ‌ʻAia ʻoku fufū ai ʻae ngaahi koloa kotoa pē ʻoe poto mo e ʻilo.
In Him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are stored up, hidden from view.
4 Pea ʻoku ou pehē ni, ke ʻoua naʻa ai ha tangata te ne fakahalaʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻi he lea fakaoloolo.
I say this to prevent your being misled by any one's plausible sophistry.
5 He neongo ʻoku ou mamaʻo ʻi he sino, ka ʻoku ou ʻiate kimoutolu ʻi he laumālie, ʻo fiefia ʻo mamata ki hoʻomou anga fakapotopoto, mo e tuʻumaʻu ʻo hoʻomou tui kia Kalaisi.
For although, as you say, I am absent from you in body, yet in spirit I am present with you and am delighted to witness your good discipline and the solid front presented by your faith in Christ.
6 Ko ia ʻi hoʻomou maʻu ʻa Kalaisi Sisu ko e ʻEiki, ke mou ʻaʻeva ʻiate ia:
As therefore you have received the Christ, even Jesus our Lord, live and act in vital union with Him;
7 Kuo aka mo langa hake ʻiate ia, pea fakatuʻumaʻu ʻi he tui, ʻo hangē ko e akonekina ʻakimoutolu, pea ke mou tupulekina ai ʻi he fakafetaʻi.
having the roots of your being firmly planted in Him, and continually building yourselves up in Him, and always being increasingly confirmed in the faith as you were taught it, and abounding in it with thanksgiving.
8 Vakai naʻa taki fakahē ʻakimoutolu ʻe ha tangata ʻe tokotaha ʻi he fiepoto mo e lau fakakākā, ʻoku taau mo e talatupuʻa ʻae tangata, ʻo ngali mo e ngaahi ʻulungāanga fakamaama, ka ʻoku ʻikai taau mo Kalaisi.
Take care lest there be some one who leads you away as prisoners by means of his philosophy and idle fancies, following human traditions and the world's crude notions instead of following Christ.
9 He ʻoku nofo fakamoʻomoʻoni kiate ia hono mātuʻaki fonu ʻoe ʻOtua.
For it is in Christ that the fulness of God's nature dwells embodied, and in Him you are made complete,
10 Pea ʻoku fakafonu ʻakimoutolu ʻiate ia, ʻaia ko e ʻulu ʻoe pule kotoa pē mo e mālohi:
and He is the Lord of all princes and rulers.
11 ‌ʻAia naʻe kamu ai foki ʻakimoutolu ʻi he kamu taʻefai ʻe he nima, ʻi he siʻaki ʻoe sino ʻoe ngaahi angahala fakakakano ʻi he kamu ʻo Kalaisi:
In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not performed by hand, when you threw off your sinful nature in true Christian circumcision;
12 ‌ʻO tanu mo ia ʻi he papitaiso, ʻaia kuo mou toetuʻu ai mo ia ʻi he tui ʻoku mei he ngāue ʻae ʻOtua, ʻaia kuo ne fokotuʻu hake ia mei he pekia.
having been buried with Him in your baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith produced within you by God who raised Him from among the dead.
13 Pea ko kimoutolu, naʻe mate ʻi hoʻomou ngaahi angahala mo e taʻekamu ʻo homou kakano, kuo ne fakamoʻui fakataha mo ia, ʻi heʻene fakamolemole hoʻomou ngaahi angahala kotoa pē;
And to you--dead as you once were in your transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your natural state--He has nevertheless given Life with Himself, having forgiven us all our transgressions.
14 ‌ʻO tāmateʻi ʻi he mate ʻae tohi nima ʻoe ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni ʻaia naʻe tuʻu kiate kitautolu, ʻaia naʻe taʻofi kiate kitautolu, ʻo ne toʻo ʻaupito ia ʻo tuki ki hono ʻakau;
The bond, with its requirements, which was in force against us and was hostile to us, He cancelled, and cleared it out of the way, nailing it to His Cross.
15 Pea ʻosi ʻene maumau ʻae ngaahi pule mo e ngaahi mālohi, naʻa ne fakaʻilo fakahā atu ʻakinautolu ʻo vikiviki ai kiate kinautolu.
And the hostile princes and rulers He shook off from Himself, and boldly displayed them as His conquests, when by the Cross He triumphed over them.
16 Ko ia ke ʻoua naʻa ai ha taha ʻe fakaanga kiate kimoutolu ʻi ha meʻakai, pe ha meʻainu, pe ki ha ʻaho kātoanga, pe ʻi ha tuʻu efiafi, pe ʻi he ngaahi Sāpate:
Therefore suffer no one to sit in judgement on you as to eating or drinking or with regard to a festival, a new moon or a sabbath.
17 ‌ʻAia ko e ngaahi ʻata ʻoe meʻa ʻoku haʻu; ka ko hono sino ʻoku ʻia Kalaisi.
These were a shadow of things that were soon to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
18 Ke ʻoua naʻa kākaaʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe ha taha ʻi hoʻomou totongi, ʻi he fie angavaivai mo e lotu ki he kau ʻāngelo, ʻi he kaunoa ki he ngaahi meʻa naʻe ʻikai te ne mamata ai, mo e fakafuofua lahi noa pē ia ʻi hono loto fakakakano,
Let no one defraud you of your prize, priding himself on his humility and on his worship of the angels, and taking his stand on the visions he has seen, and idly puffed up with his unspiritual thoughts.
19 Pea ʻoku ʻikai puke maʻu ki he ʻUlu, ʻaia ʻoku maʻu mei ai ʻae tokoni ki he sino kotoa, ʻi he ngaahi kupu mo e noʻo, pea kuo femaʻutaki fakataha, ʻoku tupu ʻi he tupu fakaʻotua.
Such a one does not keep his hold upon Christ, the Head, from whom the Body, in all its parts nourished and strengthened by its points of contact and its connections, grows with a divine growth.
20 Ko ia kapau ʻoku mou mate mo Kalaisi mei he ngaahi ʻulungāanga fakamaama, ko e hā ʻoku mou moʻulaloa ai ki he ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ʻo hangē ʻoku mou moʻui fakamaama, ʻo fakatatau mo e ngaahi fekau mo e ngaahi akonaki ʻae tangata;
If you have died with Christ and have escaped from the world's rudimentary notions, why, as though your life still belonged to the world, do you submit to such precepts as
21 “ʻOua naʻa ala;” “ʻOua naʻa kamata;” “ʻOua naʻa milihi;”
"Do not handle this;" "Do not taste that;" "Do not touch that other thing" --
22 ‌ʻAia ʻe ʻauha kotoa pē ʻi hono ngāueʻaki?
referring to things which are all intended to be used up and perish--in obedience to mere human injunctions and teachings?
23 Ko e ngaahi meʻa ko ia ʻoku ʻai moʻoni hono matamata poto ʻi he fiefie lotu, mo e angavaivai, pea mo e taʻetokangaʻi ʻoe sino; ka ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga, ka ki he fakafiemālie ʻoe kakano.
These rules have indeed an appearance of wisdom where self-imposed worship exists, and an affectation of humility and an ascetic severity. But not one of them is of any value in combating the indulgence of our lower natures.
