1 Pea ʻi heʻena kei lea ki he kakai, naʻe feʻohofi kiate kinaua ʻae kau taulaʻeiki mo e pule ʻoe falelotu lahi, pea mo e kau Sātusi,
While they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,
2 He kuo nau kina ʻi heʻena ako ki he kakai, mo ʻena malangaʻaki ʻae toetuʻu ʻa Sisu mei he mate.
being vexed because they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3 Pea naʻa nau puke ʻakinaua, ʻo tuku ki he fale fakapōpula, kaeʻoua ke ʻaho: he kuo efiafi.
And they laid hands on them, and put them in prison till the next day, for it was already evening.
4 Ka naʻe tui ʻae tokolahi ʻiate kinautolu naʻe fanongo ki he folofola; pea ko hono lau ʻoe kakai ko e toko nima afe nai.
But many of those who heard the word, believed: and the number of the men was about five thousand.
5 Pea pehē, kuo pongipongi hake, naʻe kātoa ki Selūsalema honau kau pule, mo e mātuʻa, mo e kau tangata tohi,
And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers and elders and scribes,
6 Mo ʻAnasi ko e taulaʻeiki lahi, mo Kaiafasi, mo Sione, mo ʻAlekisānita, pea mo e kāinga kotoa pē ʻoe taulaʻeiki lahi.
and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the chief priest, met together in Jerusalem.
7 Pea kuo ʻomi ʻakinaua ki honau ʻao, naʻa nau fehuʻi, ʻo [pehē], “Ko e mālohi fē, mo e hingoa ʻo hai, kuo mo fai ai ʻae meʻa ni?”
And when they had made them stand in the midst, they asked: By what power, or by what name have you done this?
8 Pea kuo fonu ʻa Pita ʻi he Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni, pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻAkimoutolu, ko e kau pule ʻoe kakai, mo e mātuʻa ʻo ʻIsileli,
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
9 Kapau ʻoku ʻekea ʻakimaua he ʻaho ni ki he ngāue lelei ki he tangata pipiki, pe ko e hā ʻae meʻa naʻe fakamoʻui ai ia;
if we are this day examined with respect unto the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he has been saved,
10 Ke ʻilo ʻekimoutolu kotoa pē, pea mo e kakai kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli, ko e huafa ʻo Sisu Kalaisi ʻo Nāsaleti, ʻaia ne mou tutuki ki he ʻakau, ka kuo fokotuʻu ia ʻe he ʻOtua mei he mate, ko ia pe kuo tuʻu ai ʻae tangata ni ʻi homou ʻao kuo haohaoa.
be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him does this man stand before you in health.
11 ‘Ko e maka eni naʻe liʻaki ʻekimoutolu ko e kau tufunga, ʻaia kuo hoko ko e fungani [maka ]tuliki.’
This is the stone that was rejected with contempt by you builders, which has become the head of the corner.
12 Pea ʻoku ʻikai ha fakamoʻui ʻi ha taha kehe: he ʻoku ʻikai ke tuku mo ha hingoa ki he kakai ʻi lalo langi, ke tau moʻui ai.
And there is salvation in no other; nor, indeed, is there another name under heaven, given among men, by which we must be saved.
13 Pea kuo nau mamata ki he taʻemāluʻia ʻa Pita mo Sione, mo nau ʻilo ko e ongo tangata meʻavale, pea taʻepoto, pea nau ofo; pea naʻa nau ʻilo kiate kinaua, naʻa na ʻia Sisu.
Now, when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and plain men, they were astonished; and they also recognized them, that they had been with Jesus;
14 Ka ʻi heʻenau vakai ki he tangata kuo fakamoʻui, ʻoku nau tutuʻu fakataha mo kinaua, pea ʻikai te nau faʻa lea ki ai.
and, seeing the man who had been cured standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply.
15 Pea hili ʻenau fekau ʻakinaua ke ʻalu [siʻi ] atu mei he fakamaauʻanga, naʻa nau alea ʻiate kinautolu,
But, having commanded them to go aside out of the Sanhedrim, they consulted with one another,
16 ‌ʻO nau pehē, “Ko e hā ʻae meʻa te tau fai ki he ongo tangata ni? He kuo fai moʻoni ʻekinaua ʻae mana lahi, pea ʻoku ʻilo ia ʻekinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku nofo ʻi Selūsalema; pea ʻoku ʻikai te tau faʻa fakaʻikai ki ai.
saying: What shall we do with these men? For that an evident sign has been done by them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem, and we can not deny it.
17 Ka koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa kei mafola ia ʻi he kakai, ke tau fakamanaʻi ʻakinaua ʻo lahi, ke ʻoua naʻa na toe lea ki ha tangata ʻi he hingoa ni.”
But that it may spread no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, so that they speak no more to any man in this name.
18 Pea naʻa nau ui ʻakinaua, ʻo fekau mālohi kiate kinaua, ke ʻoua ʻaupito naʻa na lea pe ako ʻi he hingoa ʻo Sisu.
And they called them in, and commanded them to speak no more at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus.
19 Ka naʻe lea atu kiate kinautolu ʻa Pita mo Sione, ʻo pehē, “Mou fifili, pe ʻoku lelei ʻa fē ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua, ʻa ʻema talangofua kiate kimoutolu, pē ki he ʻOtua.
But Peter and John answering them, said: Whether it is right in the sight of God to obey you rather than God, judge you.
20 Koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai te ma faʻa taʻofi ʻema leaʻaki pe ʻae ngaahi meʻa kuo ma mamata mo fanongo ai.”
For we can not but speak the things that we have seen and heard.
21 Pea kuo nau toe fakamanaʻi, pea nau tukuange ʻakinaua, he naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo ha meʻa ke tautea ai ʻakinaua, pea telia ʻae kakai: he naʻa nau fakamālō kotoa pē ki he ʻOtua ʻi he meʻa kuo fai.
And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing for which they could punish them, because of the people; for they all glorified God on account of that which had been done;
22 He kuo fāngofulu tupu ʻae taʻu ʻoe tangata, kuo fai ki ai ʻae mana fakamoʻui ni.
for the man on whom this sign of healing had been performed was more than forty years old.
23 Pea ʻi he tukuange ʻakinaua, naʻa na ō ki hona kāinga, ʻo fakahā kotoa pē ʻae lea ʻae kau taulaʻeiki lahi mo e mātuʻa kiate kinaua.
And having been released, they went to their own, and told all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
24 Pea kuo nau fanongo ki ai, pea nau hiki fakataha hake honau leʻo ki he ʻOtua, ʻonau pehē, “ʻE ʻEiki, ko e ʻOtua ʻa koe, naʻa ke ngaohi ʻae langi mo māmani, pea mo e tahi, mo e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi ai;
And when they heard it, they lifted up their voice with one consent to God, and said: Lord, thou art God, who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all things that are in them; who, by the mouth of David thy servant, didst say,
25 ‌ʻA koe naʻa ke pehē ʻi he ngutu ʻo hoʻo tamaioʻeiki ko Tevita, ‘Ko e hā ʻoku lili ai ʻae Senitaile, pea mahalo meʻa vaʻinga ai ʻe he kakai?
Why did the heathen rage, and the people devise vain things?
26 Naʻe tuʻu hake ʻae ngaahi tuʻi ʻo māmani, pea naʻe kātoa ʻae kau pule, ʻo angatuʻu ki he ʻEiki, pea mo hono Kalaisi.’
The kings of the land stood up, and the rulers met together against the Lord and against his anointed.
27 He ko e moʻoni naʻe fakataha ʻa Helota, mo Ponito Pailato, mo e Senitaile, mo e kakai ʻIsileli, ʻo fakatanga ki ho ʻAlo māʻoniʻoni ko Sisu, ʻaia naʻa ke fakanofo,
For, in truth, against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, did meet together,
28 Ke fai ʻaia kotoa pē naʻe tomuʻa tuʻutuʻuni ʻe ho nima mo hoʻo poto ke fai.
to do whatever thy hand and thy counsel determined to be done.
29 Pea ko eni, ʻe ʻEiki, ke ke tokanga ki heʻenau lea fakamana: pea ke tuku ki hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, ke nau lea mālohi ʻaki hoʻo folofola,
And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to thy servants that they may speak thy word with all boldness,
30 ‌ʻI hoʻo mafao atu ho nima ke fakamoʻui; pea ke fai ʻae ngaahi mana mo e meʻa fakaofo ʻi he huafa ʻo ho ʻAlo māʻoniʻoni ko Sisu.”
by stretching out thy hand to heal, that both signs and wonders may be done through the name of thy holy child Jesus.
31 Pea hili ʻenau lotu, naʻe ngalulululu ʻae potu naʻa nau fakataha ai; pea naʻe fakapito ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻaki ʻae Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni, ʻonau lea mālohi ʻaki ʻae folofola ʻae ʻOtua.
And when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and spoke the word of God with boldness.
32 Pea naʻe loto mo laumālie taha pē ʻakinautolu kotoa pē naʻe tui: pea naʻe ʻikai ha taha ʻe ui ʻene meʻa naʻa ne maʻu ko e meʻa ʻaʻana; ka naʻa nau meʻa taha pē.
And the multitude of believers were of one heart and of one soul; and no one said that any part of his possessions was his own; but they had all things in common.
33 Pea naʻe fakamoʻoni ʻe he kau ʻAposetolo ʻaki ʻae mālohi lahi ʻae toetuʻu ʻae ʻEiki ko Sisu: pea naʻe lahi ʻae ʻofa ʻiate kinautolu kotoa pē.
And with great power did the apostles bear testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on them all.
34 Pea naʻe ʻikai ha taha ʻiate kinautolu ʻe masiva: he ko kinautolu kotoa pē naʻe maʻu ʻae fonua pe ʻae fale, naʻe fakatau ia, pea naʻe ʻomi hono totongi ʻoe meʻa kuo fakatau,
Nor, indeed, was there any needy person among them; for as many as were owners of lands or houses, sold them, and brought the prices of what had been sold,
35 ‌ʻO tuku hifo ʻi he vaʻe ʻoe kau ʻaposetolo: pea naʻe tufaki ki he tangata taki taha ʻo fakatatau ki heʻenau masiva.
and laid them down at the feet of the apostles; and distribution was made to every one as he had need.
36 Pea ko Sose [ʻi he faʻahinga ʻo ]Livai, mei he fonua ko Saipalo, ʻaia naʻe fakahingoa ʻe he kau ʻAposetolo ko Pānepasa, (ʻaia, ko hono ʻuhinga, “Ko e foha ʻoe fiemālie,”)
And Joses, who, by the apostles, was surnamed Barnabas, (which name, when translated, is, Son of consolation, ) a Levite, by birth a Cyprian,
37 Naʻe fakatau ʻe ia hono potu fonua, pea ʻomi hono paʻanga, ʻo tuku ki he vaʻe ʻoe kau ʻAposetolo.
having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
