1 Ko e motuʻa ki he fineʻeiki kuo fili mo ʻene fānau, ʻoku ou ʻofa moʻoni ki ai; pea ʻoku ʻikai ko au pe, ka ko kinautolu kotoa pē foki kuo ʻiloʻi ʻae moʻoni;
From the elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth—and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth—
2 Koeʻuhi pe ko e moʻoni, ʻaia ʻoku nofoʻia ʻakitautolu, pea ʻe ʻiate kitautolu ia ʻo taʻengata: (aiōn g165)
because of the truth that remains in us and will be with us forever. (aiōn g165)
3 Ke ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae ʻaloʻofa, mo e ʻofa mataʻataʻatā pe, mo e melino, mei he ʻOtua ko e Tamai, pea mei he ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi, ko e ʻAlo ʻoe Tamai, ʻi he moʻoni mo e ʻofa.
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4 Ne u fiefia lahi ʻi heʻeku ʻiloʻi ʻae niʻihi ʻi hoʻo fānau ʻoku ʻaʻeva ʻi he moʻoni, ʻo hangē ko e fekau naʻa tau maʻu mei he Tamai.
I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received this commandment from the Father.
5 Pea ko eni, ʻoku ou kole atu kiate koe, ʻe fineʻeiki, kae ʻikai hangē ko haʻaku tohi ha fekau foʻou kiate koe, ka ko ia kuo tau maʻu mei he kamataʻanga, ke tau feʻofaʻaki kiate kitautolu.
Now I plead with you, lady—not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but one that we have had from the beginning—that we should love one another.
6 Pea ko e ʻofa eni, koeʻuhi ke tau ʻaʻeva ʻi heʻene ngaahi fekau. Ko eni ʻae fekau, Koeʻuhi, ke hangē ko ia kuo mou fanongo ki ai mei he kamataʻanga, ke mou ʻaʻeva ʻi ai.
This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, just as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
7 He kuo ʻalu atu ʻae kau kākā tokolahi ki māmani, ʻoku ʻikai ke nau fakahā kuo haʻu ʻi he sino ʻa Sisu Kalaisi. Ko e kākā eni mo e fili ʻo Kalaisi.
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, and they do not confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.
8 Vakai pe kiate kimoutolu, ke ʻoua naʻa mole ʻiate kitautolu ʻae ngaahi meʻa kuo tau lavaʻi, ka koeʻuhi ketau maʻu ʻae totongi haohaoa.
Look to yourselves, that you do not lose the things for which we all have worked, but so that you may receive a full reward.
9 Ko ia ia ʻoku fai hala, pea ʻikai nofomaʻu ʻi he akonaki ʻa Kalaisi, ʻoku ʻikai maʻu ʻe ia ʻae ʻOtua. Ko ia ia ʻoku nofo ʻi he akonaki ʻa Kalaisi, ʻoku maʻu ʻe ia fakatouʻosi ʻae Tamai pea mo e ʻAlo.
Whoever goes on ahead and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in the teaching, this one has both the Father and the Son.
10 Kapau ʻe ʻalu atu ha taha kiate kimoutolu, kae ʻikai ʻomi ʻae akonaki ko eni, ʻoua naʻa tali ia ki homou fale, pea ʻoua naʻa tokoni ki ai:
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house and do not greet him.
11 He ko ia ʻoku tokoni ki ai ʻoku kau ia ʻi heʻene ngaahi ngāue kovi.
For the one who greets him participates in his evil deeds.
12 Kuo lahi ʻae meʻa ke u tohi atu kiate kimoutolu, ka ʻe ʻikai te u fai ia ʻi he pepa mo e vaitohi: ka ʻoku ou ʻamanaki ke u ʻalu atu kiate kimoutolu, pea tau alea ʻo femamataʻaki, koeʻuhi ke fonu ʻetau fiefia.
I have many things to write to you, but I did not wish to write them with paper and ink. However, I expect to come to you and speak face to face, so that our joy will be complete.
13 Ko e fānau ʻa ho tokoua kuo fili, ʻoku nau ʻofa kiate koe. ʻEmeni.
The children of your chosen sister greet you.
