1 Tesalonaika 5

1 Ka ko e meʻa ʻi he ngaahi kuonga mo e ngaahi faʻahitaʻu, ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga, ʻe kāinga, ke u tohi kiate kimoutolu.

Now concerning the times and seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.

2 He ʻoku mou ʻilo fakapapau, ko e ʻaho ʻoe ʻEiki ʻoku haʻu ʻo hangē ko e kaihaʻa ʻi he poʻuli.

For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the night.

3 He ʻoka nau ka pehē, “Fiemālie mo lelei pe;” ʻe hoko fakafokifā ʻae fakaʻauha kiate kinautolu, ʻo hangē ko e langā ki ha fefine feitama; pea ʻe ʻikai te nau hao.

When they say, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them. It will be like birth pains in a pregnant woman. They will in no way escape.

4 Ka ko kimoutolu, ʻe kāinga, ʻoku ʻikai te mou ʻi he poʻuli, koeʻuhi ke moʻua ʻakimoutolu ʻe he ʻaho ko ia ʻo hangē ha kaihaʻa.

But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that the day would overtake you like a thief.

5 Ko e fānau ʻae maama ʻakimoutolu kotoa pē, mo e fānau ʻae ʻaho: ʻoku ʻikai ʻoe pō ʻakitautolu, pe ʻoe poʻuli.

For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not sons of the night or the darkness.

6 Ko ia ke ʻoua naʻa mohe ʻakitautolu, ʻo hangē ko e niʻihi; ka tau leʻo pea tau fakapotopoto.

So then, let us not sleep as the rest do. Instead, let us keep watch and be sober.

7 He ko kinautolu ʻoku mohe, ʻoku mohe ʻi he pō; pea ko kinautolu ʻoku kona, ʻoku kona ʻi he pō.

For those who sleep do so at night, and those who get drunk do so at night.

8 Ka ke fakapotopoto ʻakitautolu ʻoku ʻoe ʻaho, ʻo ʻai ki he fatafata ʻae sifa ko e tui mo e ʻofa; pea tau tatā ʻaki ʻae ʻamanaki lelei ki he fakamoʻui.

But since we belong to the day, we must stay sober and put on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation for our helmet.

9 He naʻe ʻikai tuʻutuʻuni ʻakitautolu ʻe he ʻOtua ki he houhau, ka ke tau maʻu ʻae fakamoʻui ʻi hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi.

For God did not appoint us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

10 ‌ʻAia naʻe pekia koeʻuhi ko kitautolu, koeʻuhi, ka tau ka ʻā pe mohe, ke tau moʻui fakataha mo ia.

It is he who died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.

11 Ko ia ke mou fefakafiemālieʻaki ʻakimoutolu, ʻo felangaʻaki hake ʻakimoutolu, ʻo hangē foki ko ia ʻoku mou fai.

Therefore comfort one another and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

12 Pea ʻoku mau kole kiate kimoutolu, ʻe kāinga, ke mou ʻilo ʻakinautolu ʻoku ngaue ʻiate kimoutolu, pea ʻoku nau puleʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻi he ʻEiki, pea valokiʻi ʻakimoutolu;

We ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who labor among you and who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.

13 Pea ke mou tokanga lahi ʻaupito kiate kinautolu ʻi he ʻofa koeʻuhi ko ʻenau ngaue. Pea ke mou nonofo feʻofoʻofani pe.

We also ask you to regard them highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

14 Pea ko eni, ʻoku mau enginaki kiate kimoutolu, ʻe kāinga, valokiʻi ʻakinautolu ʻoku fakamaveuveu, fakafiemālie ki he kau loto foʻi, poupou ʻae vaivai, ke mou faʻa kātakiʻi kotoa pē.

We exhort you, brothers: Warn the disorderly, encourage the discouraged, help the weak, and be patient toward all.

15 Vakai ke ʻoua naʻa ai ha taha ʻoku totongi ʻae kovi ʻaki ʻae kovi ki ha taha; ka mou tulituli maʻuaipē ki he meʻa ʻoku lelei, ʻiate kimoutolu, pea ki he kakai kotoa pē.

See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone. Instead, pursue what is good for one another and for all.

16 Fiefia maʻuaipē.

Rejoice always.

17 Lotu taʻetuku.

Pray without ceasing.

18 Fakafetaʻi ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē: he ko e finangalo ia ʻoe ʻOtua ʻia Kalaisi Sisu kiate kimoutolu.

In everything give thanks. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

19 ‌ʻOua naʻa fuifui ʻae Laumālie.

Do not quench the Spirit.

20 ‌ʻOua naʻa taʻetokanga ki he ngaahi malanga.

Do not despise prophecies.

21 ‌ʻAhiʻahiʻi ʻae ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē puke ke maʻu ʻaia ʻoku lelei.

Test all things. Hold on to what is good.

22 Taʻofi ʻakimoutolu mei he matamata kovi kotoa pē.

Avoid every appearance of evil.

23 Pea ʻofa ke fakamāʻoniʻoni haohaoa ʻakimoutolu ʻe he ʻOtua ʻoe melino: pea ʻofa ke fakatolonga taʻehalaia ʻakimoutolu ʻa homou laumālie kotoa, mo homou loto, mo homou sino, ʻo aʻu ki he hāʻele mai ʻa hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi.

May the God of peace make you completely holy. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved without blame for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 ‌ʻOku moʻoni ʻaia ʻoku ne uiuiʻi ʻakimoutolu; pea te ne mafai foki ia.

Faithful is he who calls you, the one who will also do it.

25 E kāinga, hūfia ʻakimautolu.

Brothers, pray also for us.

26 ‌ʻOfa atu ki he kāinga kotoa pē ʻaki ʻae ʻuma māʻoniʻoni.

Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.

27 ‌ʻOku ou fekau fakapapau kiate kimoutolu ʻi he ʻEiki, ke lau atu ʻae tohi ni ki he kāinga māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē.

I solemnly charge you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.

28 Ke ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae ʻaloʻofa ʻa hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi. ʻEmeni.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
