1 Tesalonaika 2
1 He ʻoku ʻilo ʻekimoutolu, ʻe kāinga, ko ʻemau hoko atu kiate kimoutolu, naʻe ʻikai taʻeʻaonga ia:
For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not useless.
2 Kae hili ʻemau tomuʻa mamahi, mo homau ngaohikoviʻi ʻaupito, ʻi Filipai, ʻaia ʻoku mou ʻilo, naʻa mau mālohi ʻi homau ʻOtua ke leaʻaki kiate kimoutolu ʻae ongoongolelei ʻoe ʻOtua lolotonga ʻae fakatanga lahi.
You know that we previously suffered and were shamefully treated at Philippi. We were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much struggling.
3 He naʻe ʻikai ʻi he kākā ʻemau akonaki, pe ʻi he taʻemāʻoniʻoni, pe ʻi he fakaoloolo:
For our exhortation was not from error, nor from impurity, nor from deceit.
4 Ka ʻi heʻene lelei ki he ʻOtua ke tuku kiate kimautolu ʻae ongoongolelei, ko ia ʻoku pehē ai ʻemau lea; ʻo ʻikai ko e fakafiemālie ki he kakai, ka ko e ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku ne ʻahiʻahiʻi homau loto.
Instead, just as we have been approved by God to be trusted with the gospel, so we speak. We speak, not to please men, but to please God. He is the one who examines our hearts.
5 He ʻoku mou ʻilo, naʻe ʻikai te mau ngāueʻaki ʻae lea fakalai ʻi ha kuonga ʻe taha, pe ko e kofu ʻoe manumanu; ko e fakamoʻoni ʻae ʻOtua:
For we never used words of flattery, as you know, nor as an excuse to cover up greed— God is our witness.
6 Pea naʻe ʻikai te mau kumi ha fakamālō mei he tangata, pe meiate kimoutolu, pe mei ha niʻihi kehe, ka naʻe ngofua pe ke mau fakamāfasia ʻakimoutolu, ʻo taau mo e kau ʻaposetolo ʻo Kalaisi.
Nor did we seek glory from people, either from you or from others. We could have claimed privileges as apostles of Christ.
7 Ka naʻa mau ʻiate kimoutolu ʻi he angavaivai, ʻio, ʻo hangē ko e tauhi ʻoku ne tauhi ʻofa ʻene fānau:
Instead, we were as gentle among you as a mother comforting her own children.
8 Pea ʻi he ʻemau tokanga ʻofa kiate kimoutolu, naʻa mau loto ke ʻatu kiate kimoutolu, ʻikai ko e ongoongolelei ʻoe ʻOtua pe, ka ko ʻemau moʻui foki, koeʻuhi ko e ʻofeina lahi ʻakimoutolu kiate kimautolu.
In this way we had affection for you. We were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives. For you had become very dear to us.
9 He ʻoku mou manatu, ʻe kāinga, ʻemau ngaue mo e ongosia: ko e meʻa ʻi he ngaue ʻi he pō mo e ʻaho, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa mau fakamasiva ha tokotaha ʻiate kimoutolu, pea naʻa mau malangaʻaki ʻae ongoongolelei ʻoe ʻOtua kiate kimoutolu.
For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil. Night and day we were working so that we might not weigh down any of you. During that time, we preached to you the gospel of God.
10 Ko e kau fakamoʻoni ʻakimoutolu, mo e ʻOtua foki, ki heʻemau ʻulungāanga māʻoniʻoni mo totonu mo taʻehalaia ʻiate kimoutolu ʻoku tui:
You are witnesses, and God also, how holy, righteous, and blameless was our behavior toward you who believe.
11 Pea ʻoku mou ʻilo foki ʻemau enginakiʻi mo fakafiemālie mo fakapapau kiate kimoutolu kotoa pē, ʻo hangē ko e tamai ki heʻene fānau,
In the same way you know how we dealt with each one of you as a father deals with his own children.
12 Koeʻuhi ke mou ʻaʻeva ʻo taau mo e ʻOtua, ʻaia kuo ne ui ʻakimoutolu ki hono puleʻanga mo hono nāunau.
We were begging you and encouraging and urging you to walk in a manner that is worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.
13 Ko e meʻa ko ia ʻoku mau fakafetaʻi taʻetuku ai foki ki he ʻOtua, koeʻuhi, ʻi hoʻomou maʻu ʻae folofola ʻae ʻOtua ʻaia ne mou fanongo ai ʻiate kimautolu, naʻe ʻikai te mou maʻu ia ʻo hangē ko e lea ʻae tangata, kae hangē ko ia ʻoku moʻoni, ko e folofola ʻae ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku ngaue ʻaonga foki kiate kimoutolu ʻoku tui.
For this reason we also thank God constantly. For when you received from us God's message that you heard, you accepted it not as the word of man. Instead, you received it as it truly is, the word of God. It is this word that is also at work among you who believe.
14 He naʻa mou hoko, ʻe kāinga, ko e kau faʻifaʻitaki ki he ngaahi siasi ʻoe ʻOtua ʻi Siutea ʻoku ʻia Kalaisi Sisu: he naʻa mou kātaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa pehē ʻi he kakai ʻi homou fonua foki, ʻo hangē ko kinautolu ʻi he kakai Siu:
For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, as they did from the Jews.
15 ʻAkinautolu naʻe tāmateʻi ʻae ʻEiki ko Sisu, mo honau kau palōfita foki, pea kuo nau fakatangaʻi ʻakimautolu; pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau lelei ki he ʻOtua, pea ʻoku nau fai kehe mo e kakai kotoa pē:
It was the Jews who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets. It was the Jews who drove us out. They do not please God. Instead, they are hostile to all people.
16 ʻOku nau taʻofi ʻemau lea ki he ngaahi Senitaile koeʻuhi ke nau moʻui, ko e meʻa ke fakakakato ai ʻenau ngaahi angahala: he kuo hoko hono lahi ʻoe houhau kiate kinautolu.
They forbid us to speak to the Gentiles for them to be saved. The result is that they always fill up their own sins. Wrath must come on them in the end.
17 Ka ko kimautolu, ʻe kāinga, kuo mavahe meiate kimoutolu ʻi he kuonga siʻi ʻi he sino, kae ʻikai ʻi he loto, kuo lahi hake ʻaupito ai ʻemau ʻahiʻahi mo holi lahi ke mamata ki homou mata.
We were separated from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart. We were especially eager, with great desire, to see your face.
18 Ko ia naʻa mau fie ʻalu atu ai kiate kimoutolu, ʻio, ko au Paula, ʻo liunga taha mo liunga ua; ka naʻe taʻofi ʻakimoutolu ʻe Sētane.
For we wished to come to you—I, Paul, wished to come to you once and again—but Satan stopped us.
19 He ko e hā ʻemau ʻamanaki lelei, pe fiefia, pe ko e polepole ʻoe fiefia? ʻIkai ko kimoutolu foki ʻi he ʻao ʻo hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi ʻi heʻene hāʻele mai?
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of pride in front of our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you just as much as others?
20 He ko homau vikivikiʻanga ʻakimoutolu mo ʻemau fiefia.
For you are our glory and our joy.
