நீதிமொழிகள் 13

1 ௧ ஞானமுள்ள மகன் தகப்பனுடைய போதகத்தைக் கேட்கிறான்; பரியாசக்காரனோ கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை கேட்கமாட்டான்.

A wise son [heareth] his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 ௨ மனிதன் தன்னுடைய வாயின் பலனால் நன்மையைச் சாப்பிடுவான்; துரோகிகளின் ஆத்துமாவோ கொடுமையை சாப்பிடும்.

A man shall eat good by the fruit of [his] mouth: but the soul of the transgressors [shall eat] violence.

3 ௩ தன்னுடைய வாயைக் காக்கிறவன் தன்னுடைய உயிரைக் காக்கிறான்; தன்னுடைய உதடுகளை விரிவாகத் திறக்கிறவனோ கலக்கமடைவான்.

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 ௪ சோம்பேறியுடைய ஆத்துமா விரும்பியும் ஒன்றும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளாது; ஜாக்கிரதையுள்ளவர்களுடைய ஆத்துமாவோ செழிக்கும்;

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and [hath] nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 ௫ நீதிமான் பொய்ப்பேச்சை வெறுக்கிறான்; துன்மார்க்கனோ வெட்கமும் அவமானமும் உண்டாக்குகிறான்.

A righteous [man] hateth lying: but a wicked [man] is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 ௬ நீதி உத்தமவழியில் உள்ளவனைத் தற்காக்கும்; துன்மார்க்கமோ பாவியைக் கவிழ்த்துப்போடும்.

Righteousness keepeth [him that is] upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 ௭ ஒன்றுமில்லாமல் இருக்கத் தன்னைச் செல்வந்தனாக நினைக்கிறவனும் உண்டு; மிகுந்த செல்வம் இருக்கத் தன்னைத் தரித்திரனாக நினைக்கிறவனும் உண்டு.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet [hath] nothing: [there is] that maketh himself poor, yet [hath] great riches.

8 ௮ மனிதனுடைய செல்வம் அவனுடைய உயிரை மீட்கும்; தரித்திரனோ மிரட்டுதலைக் கேட்காமல் இருக்கிறான்.

The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9 ௯ நீதிமான்களின் வெளிச்சம் சந்தோஷப்படுத்தும்; துன்மார்க்கர்களின் தீபமோ அணைந்துபோகும்.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 ௧0 அகந்தையினால் மட்டும் விவாதம் பிறக்கும்; ஆலோசனையைக் கேட்கிறவர்களிடத்திலோ ஞானம் உண்டு.

Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised [is] wisdom.

11 ௧௧ வஞ்சனையால் தேடின பொருள் குறைந்துபோகும்; கஷ்டப்பட்டு சேர்க்கிறவனோ விருத்தியடைவான்.

Wealth [gotten] by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12 ௧௨ நெடுங்காலமாகக் காத்திருக்குதல் இருதயத்தை இளைக்கச்செய்யும்; விரும்பினது வரும்போதோ ஜீவமரம்போல இருக்கும்.

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but [when] the desire cometh, [it is] a tree of life.

13 ௧௩ திருவசனத்தை அவமதிக்கிறவன் நாசமடைவான்; கற்பனைக்குப் பயப்படுகிறவனோ பலனடைவான்.

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 ௧௪ ஞானவான்களுடைய போதகம் வாழ்வுதரும் ஊற்று; அதினால் மரணக்கண்ணிகளுக்குத் தப்பலாம்.

The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 ௧௫ நற்புத்தி தயவை உண்டாக்கும்; துரோகிகளுடைய வழியோ கரடுமுரடானது.

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors [is] hard.

16 ௧௬ விவேகியானவன் அறிவோடு நடந்துகொள்ளுகிறான்; மூடனோ தன்னுடைய மூடத்தனத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறான்.

Every prudent [man] dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open [his] folly.

17 ௧௭ துரோகமுள்ள தூதன் தீமையிலே விழுவான்; உண்மையுள்ள தூதுவர்களோ நல்மருந்து.

A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador [is] health.

18 ௧௮ புத்திமதிகளைத் தள்ளுகிறவன் தரித்திரத்தையும் அவமானத்தையும் அடைவான்; கடிந்து கொள்ளுதலைக் கவனித்து நடக்கிறவனோ மேன்மையடைவான்.

Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 ௧௯ வாஞ்சை நிறைவேறுவது ஆத்துமாவுக்கு இனிது; தீமையைவிட்டு விலகுவது மூடர்களுக்கு அருவருப்பு.

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but [it is] abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 ௨0 ஞானிகளோடு வாழ்கிறவன் ஞானமடைவான்; மூடர்களுக்குத் தோழனோ நாசமடைவான்.

He that walketh with wise [men] shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 ௨௧ பாவிகளைத் தீவினை தொடரும்; நீதிமான்களுக்கோ நன்மை பலனாக வரும்.

Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 ௨௨ நல்லவன் தன்னுடைய பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு சொத்தை வைத்துப்போகிறான்; பாவியின் செல்வமோ நீதிமானுக்காகச் சேர்த்துவைக்கப்படும்.

A good [man] leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner [is] laid up for the just.

23 ௨௩ ஏழைகளின் வயல் மிகுதியான உணவை விளைவிக்கும்; நியாயம் கிடைக்காமல் கெட்டுப்போகிறவர்களும் உண்டு.

Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor: but there is [that is] destroyed for want of judgment.

24 ௨௪ பிரம்பைப் பயன்படுத்தாதவன் தன்னுடைய மகனைப் பகைக்கிறான்; அவன்மேல் அன்பாக இருக்கிறவனோ அவனை ஏற்கனவே தண்டிக்கிறான்.

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 ௨௫ நீதிமான் தனக்குத் திருப்தியாகச் சாப்பிடுகிறான்; துன்மார்க்கர்களுடைய வயிறோ பசியாக இருக்கும்.

The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
