நியாயாதிபதிகள் 3
1 ௧ கானான் தேசத்தில் நடந்த எல்லா யுத்தங்களையும் அறியாமலிருந்த இஸ்ரவேலர்களாகிய அனைவரையும் சோதிப்பதற்காகவும்,
Now Yahweh left these nations to test Israel, namely everyone in Israel who had not experienced any of the wars fought in Canaan.
2 ௨ இஸ்ரவேலின் புதிய சந்ததியாரும், அதற்கு முன்பு யுத்தம் செய்ய அறியாமலிருந்தவர்களும் அவைகளை அறியும்படி பழக்குவிப்பதற்காகவும் யெகோவா விட்டுவைத்தவர்கள் யாரென்றால்:
(He did this to teach warfare to the new generation of the Israelites who had not known it before.)
3 ௩ பெலிஸ்தர்களின் ஐந்து அதிபதிகளும், எல்லா கானானியர்களும், சீதோனியர்களும், பாகால் எர்மோன் துவங்கி ஆமாத்திற்குள் நுழையும்வரைக்கும் லீபனோனின் மலைகளிலே குடியிருக்கிற ஏவியர்களுமே.
These are the nations: the five kings from the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived in the Lebanon mountains, from Mount Baal Hermon to Hamath Pass.
4 ௪ யெகோவா மோசேயைக்கொண்டு தங்களுடைய பிதாக்களுக்கு விதித்த கட்டளைகளுக்கு இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் கீழ்ப்படிவார்களோ என்று அறியும்படி, இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் அவர்களாலே சோதிப்பதற்காக அவர்கள் விடப்பட்டிருந்தார்கள்.
These nations were left as a means by which Yahweh would test Israel, to confirm whether they would obey the commands he gave their ancestors through Moses.
5 ௫ இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள், கானானியர்கள், ஏத்தியர்கள், எமோரியர்கள், பெரிசியர்கள், ஏவியர்கள், எபூசியர்களாகிய இவர்களின் நடுவே குடியிருந்து,
So the people of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
6 ௬ அவர்களுடைய மகள்களை திருமணம்செய்து, தங்களுடைய மகள்களை அவர்களுடைய மகன்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவர்களுடைய தெய்வங்களைத் தொழுதுகொண்டார்கள்.
Their daughters they took to be their wives, and their own daughters they gave to their sons, and they served their gods.
7 ௭ இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் யெகோவாவின் பார்வைக்குத் தீமையானதைச் செய்து, தங்கள் தேவனாகிய யெகோவாவை மறந்து, பாகால்களையும் தோப்பு விக்கிரகங்களையும் தொழுதுகொள்கிறபோது,
The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh and forgot Yahweh their God. They worshiped the Baals and the Asherahs.
8 ௮ யெகோவா இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபம் கொண்டு அவர்களை மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின் கையிலே விற்றுப்போட்டார்; இப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை எட்டு வருடங்கள் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.
Therefore, the anger of Yahweh was set on fire against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim. The people of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim for eight years.
9 ௯ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் யெகோவாவை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, யெகோவா இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களை காப்பாற்றும்படி காலேபின் தம்பியான கேனாசுடைய மகனான ஒத்னியேல் என்னும் ஒரு இரட்சகனை அவர்களுக்கு எழும்பச்செய்தார்.
When the people of Israel called out to Yahweh, Yahweh raised up someone who would come to help the people of Israel, and who would rescue them: Othniel son of Kenaz (Caleb's younger brother).
10 ௧0 அவன்மேல் யெகோவாவுடைய ஆவி வந்து அவனை பெலப்படுத்தியதால், அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, யுத்தம்செய்யப் புறப்பட்டான்; யெகோவா மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை அவன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; ஆகையால் அவனுடைய கை கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின்மேல் பெலங்கொண்டது.
Yahweh's Spirit empowered him, and he judged Israel and he went out to war. Yahweh gave him victory over Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram. The hand of Othniel defeated Cushan-Rishathaim.
The land had peace for forty years. Then Othniel son of Kenaz died.
12 ௧௨ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் மறுபடியும் யெகோவாவின் பார்வைக்குத் தீமையானதைச் செய்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் யெகோவாவின் பார்வைக்குத் தீமையானதைச் செய்தபடியால், யெகோவா எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவை இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு எதிராக பெலனடையச் செய்தார்.
After that, the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and Yahweh gave strength to Eglon king of Moab to overpower the Israelites.
13 ௧௩ அவன் அம்மோனிய மக்களையும் அமலேக்கியர்களையும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, இஸ்ரவேலை முறியடித்தான்; பேரீச்சை மரங்களின் பட்டணத்தையும் பிடித்தான்.
Eglon joined with the Ammonites and the Amalekites and they went and defeated Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms.
14 ௧௪ இவ்வாறு இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவைப் பதினெட்டு வருடங்கள் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.
The people of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab for eighteen years.
15 ௧௫ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் யெகோவாவை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, யெகோவா அவர்களுக்குப் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தானாகிய கேராவின் மகன் ஏகூத் என்னும் இரட்சகனை எழும்பச்செய்தார்; அவன் இடதுகைப் பழக்கமுள்ளவனாக இருந்தான்; அவனுடைய கையிலே இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குக் காணிக்கை அனுப்பினார்கள்.
When the people of Israel called out to Yahweh, Yahweh raised up someone who would help them, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite, a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent him, with their tribute payment, to Eglon king of Moab.
16 ௧௬ ஏகூத், இருபுறமும் கூர்மையான ஒரு முழ நீளமுமான ஒரு பட்டயத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன்னுடைய ஆடைக்குள்ளே தன்னுடைய வலதுபுற இடுப்பிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டு,
Ehud made himself a sword that had two edges, one cubit in length; he strapped it on under his clothing on his right thigh.
17 ௧௭ காணிக்கையை மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குச் செலுத்தினான்; எக்லோன் மிகவும் பருமனான மனிதனாக இருந்தான்.
He gave the tribute payment to King Eglon of Moab. (Now Eglon was a very fat man.)
After Ehud had presented the tribute payment, he left with those who had carried it in.
19 ௧௯ அவனோ கில்காலிலுள்ள சிலைகள் இருக்கும் இடத்திலிருந்து திரும்பிவந்து: ராஜாவே, உம்மிடத்தில் சொல்லவேண்டிய இரகசியமான ஒரு வார்த்தை உண்டு என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: பொறு என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவனிடத்தில் நின்ற அனைவரும் அவனை விட்டு வெளியே போய்விட்டார்கள்.
As for Ehud himself, however, when he reached the place where the carved images were made near Gilgal, he turned and went back, and he said, “I have a secret message for you, my king.” Eglon said, “Silence!” So all those serving him left the room.
20 ௨0 ஏகூத் அவன் அருகில் போனான்; அவனோ தனக்குத் தனியாக இருந்த குளிர்ச்சியான மேல் வீட்டு அறையில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஏகூத்: உம்மிடம் சொல்லவேண்டிய தேவ வாக்கு என்னிடம் உண்டு என்றான்; அவன் தன்னுடைய இருக்கையிலிருந்து எழுந்தான்.
Ehud came to him. The king was sitting by himself, alone in the coolness of the upper room. Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you.” The king got up out of his seat.
21 ௨௧ உடனே ஏகூத் தன்னுடைய இடதுகையை நீட்டி, தன்னுடைய வலதுபுற இடுப்பிலே கட்டியிருந்த பட்டயத்தை உருவி, அதை அவனுடைய வயிற்றிற்குள் குத்தினான்.
Ehud reached with his left hand and took the sword from his right thigh, and he stabbed it into the king's body.
22 ௨௨ கத்தியோடு கைப்பிடியும் உள்ளே போனது; அவனுடைய வயிற்றிற்குள் போன கத்தியை இவன் இழுக்கமுடியாதபடி, கொழுப்பு கத்தியைச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டது; கத்தி முனை பின்புறமாக வந்தது.
The hilt of the sword also went into him following the blade. The tip of the sword came out of his back and the fat closed over it, for Ehud did not pull the sword out of his belly.
23 ௨௩ ஏகூத் புறப்பட்டு, மேல் வீட்டு அறையின் கதவை மூடிப் பூட்டிவிட்டு, தலைவாசல் வழியாகப் போய்விட்டான்.
Then Ehud went out on the porch and closed the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.
24 ௨௪ அவன் போனபின்பு வேலைக்காரர்கள் வந்து பார்த்தார்கள்; இதோ, மேல் வீட்டு அறையின் கதவு பூட்டியிருந்தது; ஆகையால் அவர் அந்தக் குளிர்ச்சியான வீட்டிலே கழிவறையில் இருக்கலாம் என்றார்கள்.
After Ehud had gone, the king's servants came; they saw that the doors of the upper room were locked, so they thought, “Surely he is relieving himself in the coolness of the upper room.”
25 ௨௫ அவர்கள் சலித்துப்போகும் வரைக்கும் காத்திருந்தார்கள்; அவன் மேல்வீட்டு அறையின் கதவைத் திறக்கவில்லை; ஆகையால் ஒரு திறவுகோலை எடுத்துத் திறந்தார்கள்; இதோ, அவர்களுடைய எஜமான் தரையிலே செத்துக்கிடந்தான்.
They were growing more concerned until they felt they were neglecting their duty when the king still did not open the doors to the upper room. So they took the key and opened them, and there lay their master, fallen to the floor, dead.
26 ௨௬ அவர்கள் தாமதித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, ஏகூத் ஓடிப்போய், சிலைகளுள்ள இடத்தைக் கடந்து, சேயிராத்தைச் சேர்ந்து தப்பினான்.
While the servants were waiting, wondering what they should do, Ehud escaped and passed beyond the place where there were carved images of idols, and so he escaped to Seirah.
27 ௨௭ அங்கே வந்தபோது எப்பிராயீம் மலையில் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் அவனோடு மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கினார்கள்; அவன் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக நடந்து:
When he arrived, he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim. Then the people of Israel went down with him from the hills, and he was leading them.
28 ௨௮ என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வாருங்கள்; யெகோவா உங்கள் எதிரிகளாகிய மோவாபியர்களை உங்களுடைய கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்றான். அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோய், மோவாபுக்கு எதிரான யோர்தான் துறைமுகத்தைப் பிடித்து, ஒருவனையும் கடந்துபோகவிடாமல்,
He said to them, “Follow me, for Yahweh is about to defeat your enemies, the Moabites.” They followed him and they captured the fords of the Jordan across from the Moabites, and they did not allow anyone to cross the river.
29 ௨௯ அக்காலத்திலே மோவாபியர்களில் ஏறக்குறையப் 10,000 பேரை வெட்டினார்கள்; அவர்கள் எல்லாரும் திறமையுள்ளவர்களும் பலசாலிகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களில் ஒருவனும் தப்பவில்லை.
At that time they killed about ten thousand men of Moab, and all were strong and capable men. Not one escaped.
30 ௩0 இப்படியே அந்த நாளிலே மோவாப் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய கையின்கீழ் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டது; அதனாலே தேசம் 80 வருடங்கள் அமைதலாக இருந்தது.
So that day Moab was subdued by the strength of Israel, and the land had rest for eighty years.
31 ௩௧ அவனுக்குப்பின்பு ஆனாத்தின் மகன் சம்கார் எழும்பினான்; அவன் பெலிஸ்தர்களில் 600 பேரை, கால்நடைகளை நடத்த பயன்படுத்தப்படும் ஒரு கோலால் கொன்றான்; அவனும் இஸ்ரவேலர்களைக் காப்பாற்றினான்.
After Ehud the next judge was Shamgar son of Anath who killed 600 men of the Philistines with a stick used to goad cattle. He also delivered Israel from danger.
