எஸ்தர் 3

1 ௧ இவைகளுக்குப்பின்பு, ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேரு அம்மெதாத்தாவின் மகனாகிய ஆமான் என்னும் ஆகாகியனை மேன்மைப்படுத்தி, தன்னிடத்திலிருக்கிற எல்லா பிரபுக்களுக்கும் மேலாக அவனுடைய அதிகாரத்தின் ஆசனத்தை உயர்த்திவைத்தான்.

And after this king Artaxerxes highly honoured Aman [son] of Amadathes, the Bugaean, and exalted him, and set his seat above all his friends.

2 ௨ ஆகையால் ராஜாவின் அரண்மனை வாசலில் இருக்கிற ராஜாவின் வேலைக்காரர்கள் எல்லோரும் ஆமானுக்கு முன்பாக முழங்காலிட்டு வணங்கிவந்தார்கள்; அவனுக்கு இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்; ஆனாலும் மொர்தெகாய் அவனுக்கு முன்பாக முழங்காலிடவுமில்லை, வணங்கவுமில்லை.

And all in the palace did him obeisance, for so the king had given orders to do: but Mardochaeus did not do him obeisance.

3 ௩ அப்பொழுது ராஜாவின் அரண்மனை வாசலில் இருக்கிற ராஜாவின் வேலைக்காரர்கள் மொர்தெகாயைப் பார்த்து: நீ ராஜாவின் கட்டளையை மீறுகிறது என்ன என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

And they in the king's palace said to Mardochaeus, Mardochaeus, why do you transgress the commands of the king?

4 ௪ இப்படி அவர்கள் நாளுக்குநாள் அவனிடம் சொல்லியும், அவன் தங்களுடைய வார்த்தையைக் கேட்காதபோது, தான் யூதன் என்று அவன் அவர்களுக்கு அறிவித்திருந்தபடியால், மொர்தெகாயின் சொற்கள் நிலைநிற்குமோ என்று பார்ப்பதற்கு, அதை ஆமானுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.

[Thus] they spoke daily to him, but he listened not to them; so they represented to Aman that Mardochaeus resisted the commands of the king: and Mardochaeus had shown to them that he was a Jew.

5 ௫ ஆமான் மொர்தெகாய் தனக்கு முன்பாக முழங்காலிட்டு வணங்காததைக் கண்டபோது, கடுங்கோபம் நிறைந்தவனானான்.

And when Aman understood that Mardochaeus did not obeisance to him, he was greatly enraged,

6 ௬ ஆனாலும் மொர்தெகாயை மட்டும் கொல்லுவது அவனுக்கு அற்பமான காரியமாக இருந்தது; மொர்தெகாயின் மக்கள் இன்னாரென்று ஆமானுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தபடியால், அகாஸ்வேருவின் ராஜ்ஜியமெங்கும் இருக்கிற மொர்தெகாயின் மக்களாகிய யூதர்களையெல்லாம் அழிக்க அவன் திட்டம் தீட்டினான்.

and took counsel to destroy utterly all the Jews who were under the rule of Artaxerxes.

7 ௭ ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவின் பன்னிரண்டாம் வருட ஆட்சியின் நிசான் மாதமாகிய முதலாம் மாதத்திலே ஆமானுக்கு முன்பாகப் பூர் என்னப்பட்ட சீட்டு (யூதர்களை அழிக்கும் திட்டத்திற்கா) எந்த நாள் எந்த மாதம் என்று அறியப் போடப்பட்டது, ஆதார் (ஏப்ரல்) மாதமான பன்னிரண்டாம் மாதத்தின்மேல் சீட்டு விழுந்தது.

And he made a decree in the twelfth year of the reign of Artaxerxes, and cast lots daily and monthly, to kill in one day the race of Mardochaeus: and the lot fell on the fourteenth [day] of the month which is Adar.

8 ௮ அப்பொழுது ஆமான் அகாஸ்வேரு ராஜாவை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய ராஜ்ஜியத்தின் எல்லா நாடுகளிலுமுள்ள மக்களுக்குள்ளே ஒருவித மக்கள் சிதறி பரவியிருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய வழக்கங்கள் எல்லா மக்களுடைய வழக்கங்களுக்கும் வித்தியாசமாக இருக்கிறது; அவர்கள் ராஜாவின் சட்டங்களைக் கைக்கொள்ளுவதில்லை; ஆகையால் அவர்களை இப்படி விட்டிருக்கிறது ராஜாவிற்கு நியாயமல்ல.

And he spoke to king Artaxerxes, saying, There is a nation scattered amongst the nations in all your kingdom, and their laws differ from [those of] all the [other] nations; and they disobey the laws of the king; and it is not expedient for the king to let them alone.

9 ௯ ராஜாவிற்கு விருப்பமிருந்தால், அவர்களை அழிக்கவேண்டுமென்று எழுதி அனுப்பவேண்டியது; அப்பொழுது நான் ராஜாவின் கருவூலத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து செலுத்த பத்தாயிரம் தாலந்து வெள்ளியை எண்ணி ராஜாவின் காரியத்தில் பொறுப்பாய் உள்ளவனுடைய கையில் கொடுப்பேன் என்றான்.

If it seem good to the king, let him make a decree to destroy them: and I will remit into the king's treasury ten thousand talents of silver.

10 ௧0 அப்பொழுது ராஜா தன்னுடைய கையிலிருக்கிற தன்னுடைய மோதிரத்தைக் கழற்றி, அதை ஆகாகியனான அம்மெதாத்தாவின் மகனும் யூதர்களின் எதிரியுமாகிய ஆமானிடம் கொடுத்து,

And the king took off his ring, and gave it into the hands of Aman, to seal the decrees against the Jews.

11 ௧௧ ஆமானை நோக்கி: அந்த வெள்ளியை நீ வைத்துக்கொள்; அந்த மக்களுக்கு உன்னுடைய விருப்பப்படி செய்யலாம் என்றான்.

And the king said to Aman, Keep the silver, and treat the nation as you will.

12 ௧௨ முதலாம் மாதம் பதிமூன்றாந்தேதியிலே, ராஜாவின் எழுத்தர்கள் அழைக்கப்பட்டார்கள்; ஆமான் கற்பித்தபடியெல்லாம் ராஜாவின் அதிகாரிகளுக்கும், ஒவ்வொரு நாட்டின்மேல் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த துரைகளுக்கும், எல்லா வகையான மக்களின் பிரபுக்களுக்கும், அந்தந்த நாட்டில் வழங்கும் எழுத்திலும், அந்தந்த ஜாதியார் பேசும் மொழிகளிலும் எழுதப்பட்டது; ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவின் பெயரால் அது எழுதப்பட்டு, ராஜாவின் மோதிரத்தினால் முத்திரை போடப்பட்டது.

So the king's recorders were called in the first month, on the thirteenth [day], and they wrote as Aman commanded to the captains and governors in every province, from India even to Ethiopia, to a hundred and twenty-seven provinces; and to the rulers of the nations according to their [several] languages, in the name of king Artaxerxes.

13 ௧௩ ஆதார் மாதமான பன்னிரண்டாம் மாதம் பதிமூன்றாந் தேதியாகிய ஒரே நாளில் சிறியோர் பெரியோர் குழந்தைகள் பெண்கள் ஆகிய எல்லா யூதர்களையும் கொன்று அழிக்கவும், அவர்களை நொறுக்கவும், தபால்காரர்கள் கையில் ராஜாவின் நாடுகளுக்கெல்லாம் கட்டளைகள் அனுப்பப்பட்டது.

And [the message] was sent by posts throughout the kingdom of Artaxerxes, to destroy utterly the race of the Jews on the first day of the twelfth month, which is Adar, and to plunder their goods.

14 ௧௪ அந்த நாளுக்கு ஆயத்தப்பட்டிருக்கவேண்டும் என்று எல்லா மக்களுக்கும் கூறி அறிவிப்பதற்காகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட கட்டளையின் நகல் இதுவே, இது ஒவ்வொரு நாட்டிலும் தெரியப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

And the copies of the letters were published in every province; and an order was given to all the nations to be ready against that day.

15 ௧௫ அந்த தபால்காரர்கள் ராஜாவின் உத்திரவினால் விரைவாகப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்; அந்தக் கட்டளை சூசான் அரண்மனையில் பிறந்தது. ராஜாவும் ஆமானும் குடிக்கும்படி உட்கார்ந்தார்கள்; சூசான் நகரம் கலங்கியது.

And the business was hastened, and [that] at Susa: and the king and Aman began to drink; but the city was troubled.
