1 Mosebok 38

1 Det begaf sig på samma tiden, att Juda for neder ifrå sina bröder, och gaf sig till en man i Adullam, som het Hira.

And at that time Iudah went downe from his brethren, and turned in to a man called Hirah an Adullamite.

2 Och Juda såg der en Cananeisk mans dotter, han het Sua; och tog henne.

And Iudah sawe there the daughter of a man called Suah a Canaanite: and he tooke her to wife, and went in vnto her.

3 Och då han belåg henne, vardt hon hafvande, och födde en son, den kallade hon Er.

So she conceiued and bare a sonne, and he called his name Er.

4 Och hon vardt åter hafvande, och födde en son, den kallade hon Onan.

And she conceiued againe, and bare a sonne, and she called his name Onan.

5 Åter födde hon en son, honom kallade hon Sela. Och han var i Chesib, när hon den födde.

Moreouer she bare yet a sonne, whome she called Shelah: and Iudah was at Chezib when she bare him.

6 Och Juda gaf sinom första sone Er ena hustru, som het Thamar.

Then Iudah tooke a wife to Er his first borne sonne whose name was Tamar.

7 Men Er Juda förstfödde son var arg för Herranom; derföre dödade Herren honom.

Now Er the first borne of Iudah was wicked in the sight of the Lord: therefore the Lord slewe him.

8 Då sade Juda till sin son Onan: Lägg dig när dins broders hustru, och tag henne till ägta, att du uppväcker dinom broder säd.

Then Iudah said to Onan, Goe in vnto thy brothers wife, and do the office of a kinsman vnto her, and raise vp seede vnto thy brother.

9 Men då Onan visste, att säden icke skulle vara hans egen, då han låg när sins broders hustru, lät han det falla uppå jordena, och förderfvade det, att han icke skulle gifva sinom broder säd.

And Onan knewe that the seede should not be his: therefore when he went in vnto his brothers wife, he spilled it on the grounde, least he should giue seede vnto his brother.

10 Då misshagade Herranom det onda han gjorde, och dödade honom och.

And it was wicked in the eyes of the Lord, which he did: wherefore he slewe him also.

11 Då sade Juda till sina sonahustru Thamar: Blif en enka i dins faders huse, så länge Sela min son varder stor; förty han tänkte, att han tilläfventyrs måtte ock så dö såsom hans broder. Så gick Thamar bort, och blef i sins faders huse.

Then said Iudah to Tamar his daughter in lawe, Remaine a widowe in thy fathers house, till Shelah my sonne growe vp (for he thought thus, Least he die as well as his brethren.) So Tamar went and dwelt in her fathers house.

12 Då nu månge dagar förledne voro, dödde Sua dotter, Judas hustru. Och sedan Juda utsörjt hade, gick han upp till att klippa sin får i Thimnath, med sin herda Hira af Adullam.

And in processe of time also the daughter of Shuah Iudahs wife dyed. Then Iudah, when he had left mourning, went vp to his sheepe sherers to Timnah, he, and his neighbour Hirah the Adullamite.

13 Då vardt Thamar sagdt: Si, din svär går upp till Thimnath till att klippa sin får.

And it was tolde Tamar, saying, beholde, thy father in lawe goeth vp to Timnah, to shere his sheepe.

14 Då lade hon af sin enkokläder, som hon drog, dokade sig, och förhöljde sig, och satte sig ut för porten på vägen emot Thimnath; förty hon såg, att Sela var stor vorden, och hon var icke gifven honom till hustru.

Then she put her widowes garments off from her, and couered her with a vaile, and wrapped her selfe, and sate downe in Pethah-enaim, which is by the way to Timnah, because she sawe that Shelah was growen, and she was not giuen vnto him to wife.

15 Då nu Juda såg henne, mente han det hade varit en sköka; förty hon hade förhöljt sitt ansigte.

When Iudah sawe her, he iudged her an whore: for she had couered her face.

16 Och han vek af vägenom till henne, och sade: Käre, låt mig ligga när dig; ty han visste icke, att det var hans sonahustru. Hon svarade: Hvad vill du gifva mig, att du ligger när mig?

And he turned to the way towardes her, and saide, Come, I pray thee, let me lie with thee. (for he knewe not that she was his daughter in lawe) And she answered, What wilt thou giue me for to lie with me?

17 Han sade: Jag vill sända dig en bock ifrå hjordenom. Hon svarade: Gif mig en pant, så länge du sänder mig honom.

Then said he, I will sende thee a kid of the goates from the flocke. and she said, Well, if thou wilt giue me a pledge, till thou sende it.

18 Han sade: Hvad vill du jag skall gifva dig för en pant? Hon svarade: Din ring, och din hufvudbonad, och din staf, som du hafver i händerna. Det gaf han henne, och låg när henne, och hon vardt hafvande af honom.

Then he saide, What is the pledge that I shall giue thee? And she answered, Thy signet, and thy cloke, and thy staffe that is in thine hande. So he gaue it her, and lay by her, and she was with childe by him.

19 Och hon stod upp, och gick dädan, och lade doken af, och tog sin enkokläder uppå igen.

Then she rose, and went and put her vaile from her and put on her widowes raiment.

20 Men Juda sände bocken med sin herde af Adullam, att han skulle taga igen panten ifrå qvinnone; och han fann henne intet.

Afterwarde Iudah sent a kid of the goates by the hande of his neighbour the Adullamite, for to receiue his pledge from the womans hand: but he found her not.

21 Då frågade han folket, som bodde vid det rummet, och sade: Hvarest är den skökan, som satt ute på vägenom? De svarade: Ingen sköka hafver der varit.

Then asked he the men of that place, saying, Where is ye whore, that sate in Enaim by the way side? And they answered, There was no whore here.

22 Och då han kom åter till Juda, och sade: Jag hafver intet funnit henne; dertill säger folket, som der bor, att der hafver ingen sköka varit.

He came therefore to Iudah againe, and said, I can not finde her, and also the men of the place said, There was no whore there.

23 Juda sade: Hafve sig det, att vi icke tilläfventyrs skulle komma på skam; ty jag hafver sändt bocken, men du hafver icke funnit henne.

Then Iudah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: beholde, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

24 Tre månader derefter vardt det Juda sagdt: Din sonahustru Thamar hafver bolat; och si, i boleri är hon vorden hafvande: Juda sade: Hafver henne här fram, att hon skall brännas.

Now after three moneths, one tolde Iudah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the whore, and lo, with playing the whore, she is great with childe. Then Iudah saide, Bring ye her foorth and let her be burnt.

25 Och då hon hades fram, sände hon till sin svär och sade: Af denna mannen är jag hafvande, som detta tillhörer. Och sade: Känner du ock, hvem denne ringen och hufvudbonaden och stafven tillhörer?

When she was brought foorth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, vnto whom these things pertaine, am I with childe: and saide also, Looke, I pray thee, whose these are, the seale, and the cloke, and the staffe.

26 Juda kände det, och sade: Hon är rättfärdigare än jag; ty jag hafver icke gifvit henne min son Sela. Dock belåg han henne intet mer.

Then Iudah knewe them, and said, She is more righteous then I: for she hath done it because I gaue her not to Shelah my sonne. So he lay with her no more.

27 Och då hon skulle föda, funnos tvillingar i hennes lifve.

Now, when the time was come that she should be deliuered, beholde, there were twinnes in her wombe.

28 Och som hon nu födde, gaf sig en hand ut; då tog Jordgumman och band der en rödan tråd om, och sade: Denne skall först utkomma.

And when she was in trauell, the one put out his hand: and the midwife tooke and bound a red threde about his hand, saying, This is come out first.

29 Men då han drog sina hand åter in, kom hans broder ut, och hon sade: Hvi är hinnan för dina skull sönderremnad? Och man kallade honom Perez.

But when he plucked his hand backe againe, loe, his brother came out, and the midwife said, How hast thou broken the breach vpon thee? and his name was called Pharez.

30 Derefter kom hans broder ut, som hade den röda tråden om sina hand; och man kallade honom Serah.

And afterward came out his brother that had the red threde about his hande, and his name was called Zarah.
