Nehemías 1

1 La historia de Nehemías, el hijo de Hacalías. En el mes de Quisleu, en el año veinte, cuando yo estaba en Susan, la ciudad del rey,

Words of Nehemiah son of Hachaliah. And it cometh to pass, in the month of Chisleu, the twentieth year, and I have been in Shushan the palace,

2 Que Hanani, uno de mis hermanos, vino con ciertos hombres de Judá; y en respuesta a mi solicitud de noticias de los judíos que habían estado prisioneros y se habían escapado, de Jerusalén,

and come in doth Hanani, one of my brethren, he and men of Judah, and I ask them concerning the Jews, the escaped part that have been left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem;

3 Me dijeron: La pequeña banda de judíos que ahora viven allí en la tierra están en gran apuro y aflicción, el muro de Jerusalén se ha derrumbado y sus puertas se han quemado con fuego.

and they say to me, 'Those left, who have been left of the captivity there in the province, [are] in great evil, and in reproach, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burnt with fire.'

4 Luego, después de escuchar estas palabras, durante algunos días me entregué a llorar y lamentarme, sentado en la tierra; y en ayuno, oré al Dios del cielo,

And it cometh to pass, at my hearing these words, I have sat down, and I weep and mourn [for] days, and I am fasting and praying before the God of the heavens.

5 Y le dije: Oh Señor, el Dios del cielo, el gran Dios, para ser reverenciado, manteniendo firme tu pacto y misericordia con los que te aman y son fieles a tus leyes:

And I say, 'I beseech thee, O Jehovah, God of the heavens, God, the great and the fearful, keeping the covenant and kindness for those loving Him, and for those keeping His commands,

6 Que estén atentos tus oídos y que tus ojos estén abiertos, para que puedas escuchar la oración de tu siervo, que presento ante ti en este momento, día y noche, en favor de los hijos de Israel, tu siervos, mientras que confieso los pecados de los hijos de Israel, que hemos cometido contra ti, en verdad, el pueblo de mi padre y yo somos pecadores.

let Thine ear be, I pray Thee, attentive, and Thine eyes open, to hearken unto the prayer of Thy servant, that I am praying before Thee to-day, by day and by night, concerning the sons of Israel Thy servants, and confessing concerning the sins of the sons of Israel, that we have sinned against Thee; yea, I and the house of my father have sinned;

7 Hemos cometido un gran error contra ti, y no hemos guardado las órdenes, las reglas y las decisiones que le diste a tu siervo Moisés.

we have acted very corruptly against Thee, and have not kept the commands, and the statutes, and the judgments, that Thou didst command Moses Thy servant.

8 Ten en mente, oh Señor, la orden que le diste a tu siervo Moisés, diciendo: Si haces algo malo, te enviaré a vagar entre los pueblos.

'Remember, I pray Thee, the word that Thou didst command Moses Thy servant, saying, Ye — ye trespass — I scatter you among peoples;

9 Pero si vuelves a mí y cumples mis órdenes y las cumples, incluso si aquellos de ustedes que han sido expulsados viven en las partes más lejanas del cielo, los recogería de allí y los llevaré de vuelta a él lugar escogido por mí para el lugar de descanso de mi nombre.

and ye have turned back unto Me, and kept My commands, and done them — if your outcast is in the end of the heavens, thence I gather them, and have brought them in unto the place that I have chosen to cause My name to tabernacle there.

10 Ahora, estos son tus siervos y tu pueblo, a quienes has hecho tuyos por tu gran poder y por tu mano fuerte.

And they [are] Thy servants, and Thy people, whom Thou hast ransomed by Thy great power, and by Thy strong hand.

11 Oh Señor, deja que tu oído atienda a la oración de tu siervo y de las súplicas de tus siervos, que se deleitan en adorar tu nombre: ayuda, Señor, a tu siervo hoy, y dale misericordia ante el rey. Ahora yo era el sirviente del vino del rey.

'I beseech Thee, O Lord, let, I pray Thee, Thine ear be attentive unto the prayer of Thy servant, and unto the prayer of Thy servants, those delighting to fear Thy Name; and give prosperity, I pray Thee, to Thy servant to-day, and give him for mercies before this man;' and I have been butler to the king.
