Jeremías 37

1 Y Sedequías, hijo de Josías, llegó a ser rey en lugar de Jeconías, hijo de Joacim, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, hizo rey en la tierra de Judá.

And Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, became king in place of Coniah, the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon, made king in the land of Judah.

2 Pero él, sus siervos y la gente de la tierra no escucharon las palabras del Señor que dijo por el profeta Jeremías.

But he and his servants and the people of the land did not give ear to the words of the Lord which he said by Jeremiah the prophet.

3 Entonces el rey Sedequías envió a Jucal, el hijo de Selemías, y a Sofonías, hijo del sacerdote de Maasías, al profeta Jeremías, diciendo: Hagan ahora oración al SEÑOR, nuestro Dios.

And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal, the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Make prayer now to the Lord our God for us.

4 Ahora Jeremías andaba entre la gente, porque no lo habían encarcelado.

(Now Jeremiah was going about among the people, for they had not put him in prison.

5 Y el ejército de Faraón había salido de Egipto; y los caldeos, que estaban atacando a Jerusalén, oyendo noticias de ellos, se fueron de Jerusalén.

And Pharaoh's army had come out from Egypt: and the Chaldaeans, who were attacking Jerusalem, hearing news of them, went away from Jerusalem.)

6 Entonces la palabra del Señor vino al profeta Jeremías, diciendo:

Then the word of the Lord came to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

7 El Señor, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho: esto es lo que debes decirle al rey de Judá que te envió para que me enviaras las instrucciones: Mira, el ejército del Faraón, que ha salido en tu ayuda, se ha regresado a Egipto, a su tierra.

The Lord, the God of Israel, has said: This is what you are to say to the king of Judah who sent you to get directions from me: See, Pharaoh's army, which has come out to your help, will go back to Egypt, to their land.

8 Y los caldeos volverán y harán la guerra contra esta ciudad, la tomarán y la incendiarán.

And the Chaldaeans will come back again and make war against this town and they will take it and put it on fire.

9 El Señor ha dicho: No tengan falsas esperanzas, diciéndose a sí mismos: Los Caldeos se alejarán de nosotros, porque no se irán.

The Lord has said, Have no false hopes, saying to yourselves, The Chaldaeans will go away from us: for they will not go away.

10 Porque incluso si hubieras vencido a todo el ejército de los caldeos que luchaban contra ti, y solo quedarán hombres heridos entre ellos, ellos se levantarían, cada uno en su tienda, e incendiarían esta ciudad.

For even if you had overcome all the army of the Chaldaeans fighting against you, and there were only wounded men among them, still they would get up, every man in his tent, and put this town on fire.

11 Y sucedió que cuando el ejército caldeo en las afueras de Jerusalén se había ido por temor al ejército de Faraón,

And it came about that when the Chaldaean army outside Jerusalem had gone away for fear of Pharaoh's army,

12 Jeremías salió de Jerusalén para ir a la tierra de Benjamín, con el propósito de retomar su herencia entre la gente.

Jeremiah went out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, with the purpose of taking up his heritage there among the people.

13 Pero cuando él estaba en la puerta de Benjamín, un capitán de la guardia llamado Irías, el hijo de Selemías, el hijo de Hananías, que estaba estacionado allí, puso su mano sobre el profeta Jeremías, diciendo: Tú te pasas a los caldeos.

But when he was at the Benjamin door, a captain of the watch named Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, who was stationed there, put his hand on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are going to give yourself up to the Chaldaeans.

14 Entonces Jeremías dijo: Eso no es cierto; No voy a ir a los caldeos. Pero no quiso escucharlo; entonces Iría lo hizo prisionero y lo llevó a los gobernantes.

Then Jeremiah said, That is not true; I am not going to the Chaldaeans. But he would not give ear to him: so Irijah made him prisoner and took him to the rulers.

15 Y los gobernantes se enojaron con Jeremías, le dieron golpes y lo pusieron en la cárcel en la casa de Jonatán, el escriba; porque habían hecho de su casa, la prisión.

And the rulers were angry with Jeremiah, and gave him blows and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

16 Entonces Jeremías entró en el agujero de la prisión, debajo de los arcos, y estuvo allí durante mucho tiempo.

So Jeremiah came into the hole of the prison, under the arches, and was there for a long time.

17 Entonces el rey Sedequías ordenó que lo sacaran; y el rey, interrogándolo en secreto en su casa, dijo: ¿Hay alguna palabra de parte del Señor? Y Jeremías dijo: Si. Entonces él dijo: Te entregarán en manos del rey de Babilonia.

Then King Zedekiah sent and got him out: and the king, questioning him secretly in his house, said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is. Then he said, You will be given up into the hands of the king of Babylon.

18 Entonces Jeremías dijo al rey Sedequías: ¿Cuál ha sido mi pecado contra ti o contra tus siervos o contra este pueblo, que me pusiste en la cárcel?

Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, What has been my sin against you or against your servants or against this people, that you have put me in prison?

19 ¿Dónde están ahora tus profetas que te dijeron: El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ti ni contra esta tierra?

Where now are your prophets who said to you, The king of Babylon will not come against you and against this land?

20 Y ahora, te ruego que escuches, oh mi señor el rey; Deja que mi oración de ayuda venga ante ti, y no me hagas volver a la casa de Jonatán, el escriba, por temor a que yo pueda morir allí.

And now be pleased to give ear, O my lord the king; let my prayer for help come before you, and do not make me go back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, for fear that I may come to my death there.

21 Luego, por orden del rey Sedequías, Jeremías fue puesto en el lugar de los vigilantes armados, y cada día le daban un pastel de pan de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que el pan de la ciudad fue agotado. Así se mantuvo a Jeremías en lugar de los vigilantes armados.

Then by the order of Zedekiah the king, Jeremiah was put into the place of the armed watchmen, and they gave him every day a cake of bread from the street of the bread-makers, till all the bread in the town was used up. So Jeremiah was kept in the place of the armed watchmen.
