Éxodo 19
1 En el mes tercero después que los hijos de Israel salieron de Egipto, en el mismo día, vinieron al desierto de Sinaí.
In the third month after the children of Israel [God prevails] had gone out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai [Thorn].
2 Y cuando se fueron de Refidim, y entraron en el desierto de Sinaí, pusieron sus tiendas en él desierto delante del monte: allí puso Israel sus tiendas.
When they had departed from Rephidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai [Thorn], they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel [God prevails] encamped before the mountain.
3 Y Moisés subió a Dios, y la voz del Señor vino a él desde el monte, y le dijo: «Di a la familia de Jacob y di palabra a los hijos de Israel».
Moses [Drawn out] went up to God, and Adonai called to him out of the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob [Supplanter], and tell the children of Israel [God prevails]:
4 Has visto lo que hice a los egipcios, y cómo te tomé, como en alas de águila, guiándote hacia mí.
‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery], and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself.
5 Si ahora escuchas verdaderamente mi voz y sigues mi pacto, serán un tesoro especial entre todos los pueblos; porque toda la tierra es mía.
Now therefore, if you will indeed sh'ma ·hear obey· my voice, and sh'ma ·hear obey· keep my covenant ·binding contract between two or more parties·, then you shall be my own segulah ·special treasure· from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;
6 Y serás un reino de sacerdotes para mí y una nación santa. Estas son las palabras que le dirás a los hijos de Israel.
and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel [God prevails].”
7 Y vino Moisés, y envió por los principales del pueblo, y puso delante de ellos todas estas palabras que él Señor le había mandado que dijera.
Moses [Drawn out] came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Adonai enjoined him.
8 Y todo el pueblo, respondiendo juntos, dijeron: Todo lo que el Señor ha dicho haremos. Y Moisés devolvió al Señor las palabras del pueblo.
All the people answered together, and said, “All that Adonai has spoken we will do.” Moses [Drawn out] reported the words of the people to Adonai.
9 Y él Señor dijo a Moisés: He aquí, yo vendré a ti en una nube espesa, para que lo que yo te diga llegue a oídos del pueblo y tengan fe en ti para siempre. Y Moisés le dio al Señor la palabra de lo que la gente había dicho.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may sh'ma ·hear obey· when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moses [Drawn out] told the words of the people to Adonai.
10 Y él Señor dijo a Moisés: Ve al pueblo, y santifícalos hoy y mañana, y laven sus vestidos.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,
11 Y al tercer día estén listos; porque al tercer día él Señor descenderá sobre el monte Sinaí, ante los ojos de todo el pueblo.
and be ready against the third day; for on the third day Adonai will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai [Thorn].
12 Y sean señalados los límites para el pueblo que rodea la montaña, y diles: “No te preocupes por subir al monte ni a los lados de él; el que ponga su pie en la montaña, sin duda vendrá a su muerte”.
You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.
13 No debe ser tocado por una mano, sino que debe ser apedreado o tener una flecha puesta a través de él; hombre o bestia, debe ser muerto: al sonar el cuerno pueden subir a la montaña.
No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is animal or man, he shall not live.’ When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mountain.”
14 Entonces Moisés descendió del monte al pueblo, y santificó al pueblo; y su ropa fue lavada.
Moses [Drawn out] went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
15 Y dijo al pueblo: Esten preparados para el tercer día: no se acerquen a una mujer.
He said to the people, “Be ready by the third day. Don’t have sexual relations with a woman.”
16 Y a la mañana siguiente, al tercer día, hubo truenos y rayos y una espesa nube en la montaña, y un cuerno sonó muy fuerte; y todas las personas en las tiendas temblaban de miedo.
On the third day, when it was morning, there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud shofar ·ram horn·; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.
17 Y Moisés hizo salir al pueblo de sus tiendas y tomar sus lugares delante de Dios; y llegaron al pie de la montaña,
Moses [Drawn out] led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the lower part of the mountain.
18 Y todo el monte de Sinaí humeaba, porque él Señor había descendido sobre él en fuego; y el humo de él subía como el humo de un gran fuego; y toda la montaña temblaba.
All of Mount Sinai [Thorn] smoked, because Adonai descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
19 Y cuando el sonido del cuerno se hizo más y más fuerte, las palabras de Moisés fueron respondidas por la voz de Dios.
When the sound of the shofar ·ram horn· grew louder and louder, Moses [Drawn out] spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
20 Entonces el Señor descendió al monte Sinaí, a la cima del monte, y el Señor envió a Moisés a subir a la cima del monte, y Moisés subió.
Adonai came down on Mount Sinai [Thorn], to the top of the mountain. Adonai called Moses [Drawn out] to the top of the mountain, and Moses [Drawn out] went up.
21 Y él Señor dijo a Moisés: Desciende y da al pueblo la orden de que se quede atrás, por temor a que un gran número de ellos, forzando su camino para ver al Señor, pueda llegar a la destrucción.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to Adonai to gaze, and many of them perish.
22 Y los sacerdotes que se acercan al Señor se santifiquen, por temor a que el Señor venga sobre ellos de repente.
Let the priests also, who come near to Adonai, sanctify themselves, lest Adonai break out on them.”
23 Y Moisés dijo al Señor: El pueblo no podrá subir la montaña, porque nos ordenaste poner límites alrededor de la montaña, marcarla y santificarla.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Adonai, “The people can’t come up to Mount Sinai [Thorn], for you warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.’”
24 Y el Señor le dijo: Baja, y tú y Aarón saldrán, pero no permitan que los sacerdotes y las personas se dirijan al Señor, o él vendrá sobre ellos de repente.
Adonai said to him, “Go down! You shall bring Aaron [Light-bringer] up with you, but don’t let the priests and the people break through to come up to Adonai, lest he break out against them.”
25 Entonces Moisés descendió al pueblo y les dijo esto.
So Moses [Drawn out] went down to the people, and told them.
