1 Reyes 12

1 Y fue Roboam a Siquem; porque todo Israel había venido a Siquem para hacerlo rey.

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

2 Y aconteció, que cuando lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que aún estaba en Egipto, porque había huido de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto;

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,

3 enviaron y le llamaron. Vino pues Jeroboam y toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo:

and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

4 Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, mas ahora tú disminuye algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre, y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos.

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

5 Y él les dijo: Idos, y de aquí a tres días volved a mí. Y el pueblo se fue.

And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

6 Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda a este pueblo?

And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

7 Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo: Si tú fueres hoy siervo de este pueblo, y lo sirvieres, y respondiéndole buenas palabras les hablares, ellos te servirán para siempre.

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

8 Mas él, dejado el consejo de los viejos que ellos le habían dado, tomó consejo con los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, y estaban delante de él.

But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.

9 Y les dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos a este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?

And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?

10 Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, le respondieron, diciendo: Así hablarás a este pueblo que te ha dicho estas palabras: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; mas tú disminúyenos algo; así les hablarás: El menor dedo de los míos es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

11 Ahora pues, mi padre os cargó de pesado yugo, mas yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones.

And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12 Y al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam; según el rey lo había mandado, diciendo: Volved a mí al tercer día.

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.

13 Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, dejado el consejo de los ancianos que ellos le habían dado;

And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,

14 y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones.

and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15 Y no oyó el rey al pueblo; porque era ordenación del SEÑOR, para confirmar su palabra, que el SEÑOR había hablado por medio de Ahías silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.

So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was a thing brought about of Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16 Y cuando todo el pueblo vio que el rey no les había oído, le respondió estas palabras, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No hay heredad en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, a tus estancias! ¡Provee ahora en tu casa, David! Entonces Israel se fue a sus estancias.

And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

17 Mas reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá.

But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18 Y el rey Roboam envió a Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero le apedreó todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se esforzó a subir en un carro, y huir a Jerusalén.

Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19 Así se rebeló Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

20 Y aconteció, que oyendo todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron y le llamaron a la congregación, y le hicieron rey sobre todo Israel, sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese la casa de David, sino sólo la tribu de Judá.

And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

21 Y cuando Roboam vino a Jerusalén, juntó toda la casa de Judá y la tribu de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para hacer guerra a la casa de Israel, y reducir el reino a Roboam hijo de Salomón.

And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

22 Mas vino palabra del SEÑOR a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo:

But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23 Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los demás del pueblo, diciendo:

Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,

24 Así dijo el SEÑOR: No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel; volveos cada uno a su casa; porque este negocio yo lo he hecho. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Dios, y volvieron, y se fueron, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR.

Thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the word of Jehovah, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Jehovah.

25 Y reedificó Jeroboam a Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y habitó en ella; y saliendo de allí, reedificó a Penuel.

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and he went out from thence, and built Penuel.

26 Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón: Ahora se volverá el reino a la casa de David,

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now will the kingdom return to the house of David:

27 si este pueblo subiere a sacrificar a la Casa del SEÑOR en Jerusalén; porque el corazón de este pueblo se convertirá a su señor Roboam rey de Judá, y me matarán a mí, y se tornarán a Roboam rey de Judá.

if this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem, then will the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28 Y habiendo tenido consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro, y dijo al pueblo: Harto habéis subido a Jerusalén; he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

29 Y puso el uno en Bet-el, y el otro puso en Dan.

And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.

30 Y esto fue ocasión de pecado; porque el pueblo iba a adorar delante del uno, hasta Dan.

And this thing became a sin; for the people went [to worship] before the one, even unto Dan.

31 Hizo también casa de altos, e hizo sacerdotes de entre el pueblo, que no eran de los hijos de Leví.

And he made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, that were not of the sons of Levi.

32 Entonces instituyó Jeroboam solemnidad en el mes octavo, a los quince del mes, conforme a la solemnidad que se celebraba en Judá; y sacrificó sobre un altar. Así hizo en Bet-el, sacrificando a los becerros que había hecho. Ordenó también en Bet-el sacerdotes de los altos que él había fabricado.

And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he went up unto the altar; so did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places that he had made.

33 Sacrificó pues sobre el altar que él había hecho en Bet-el, a los quince del mes octavo, el mes que él había inventado de su corazón; e hizo fiesta a los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para quemar incienso.

And he went up unto the altar which he had made in Beth-el on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up unto the altar, to burn incense.
