1 Crónicas 19
1 Después de estas cosas aconteció que murió Nahas rey de los hijos de Amón, y reinó en su lugar su hijo.
After this, Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.
2 Y dijo David: Haré misericordia con Hanán hijo de Nahas, porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Mas venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los amonitas a Hanán, para consolarle,
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.
3 los príncipes de los hijos de Amón dijeron a Hanán: ¿A tu parecer honra David a tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No vienen antes sus siervos a ti para escudriñar, e inquirir, y reconocer la tierra?
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”
4 Entonces Hanán tomó los siervos de David, y los rapó, y les cortó los vestidos por medio, hasta las partes vergonzosas, y los despachó.
So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle at their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Se fueron, pues, y fue dada la nueva a David de aquellos varones, y él envió a recibirlos, porque estaban muy afrentados. Y les dijo el rey: Estaos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y entonces volveréis.
Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6 Y viendo los hijos de Amón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, Hanán y los hijos de Amón enviaron mil talentos de plata, para tomar a sueldo carros y gente de a caballo de la Siria de los ríos, y de la Siria de Maaca, y de Soba.
When the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah.
7 Y tomaron a sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maaca y a su pueblo, los cuales vinieron y asentaron su campamento delante de Medeba. Y se juntaron también los hijos de Amón de sus ciudades, y vinieron a la guerra.
So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah with his people, who came and encamped near Medeba. The children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
8 Oyéndolo David, envió a Joab y a todo el ejército de los hombres valientes.
When David heard of it, he sent Joab with all the army of the mighty men.
9 Y los hijos de Amón salieron, y ordenaron su escuadrón a la entrada de la ciudad; y los reyes que habían venido, estaban por sí en el campo.
The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city; and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
10 Y viendo Joab que la faz de la batalla estaba contra él delante y a las espaldas, escogió de todos los más escogidos que había en Israel, y ordenó su escuadrón contra los sirios.
Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose some of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.
11 Puso luego el resto de la gente en mano de Abisai su hermano, ordenándolos en escuadrón contra los amonitas.
The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
12 Y dijo: Si los sirios fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me salvarás; y si los amonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te salvaré.
He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you are to help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.
13 Esfuérzate, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga el SEÑOR lo que bien le pareciere.
Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. May Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”
14 Se acercó luego Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los sirios; mas ellos huyeron delante de él.
So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the front of the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.
15 Entonces los hijos de Amón, viendo que los Sirios habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai su hermano, y se entraron en la ciudad. Y Joab se volvió a Jerusalén.
When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 Y viendo los sirios que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron a los sirios que estaban al otro lado del río, cuyo capitán era Sofac, general del ejército de Hadad-ezer.
When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and called out the Syrians who were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the army of Hadadezer leading them.
17 Y cuando el aviso fue dado a David, juntó a todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino a ellos, y ordenó contra ellos su ejército. Y cuando David hubo ordenado su tropa contra ellos, pelearon contra él los sirios.
David was told that, so he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, came to them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
18 Mas el sirio huyó delante de Israel; y mató David de los sirios los de siete mil carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a pie; asimismo mató a Sofac, general del ejército.
The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrian men seven thousand charioteers and forty thousand footmen, and also killed Shophach the captain of the army.
19 Y viendo los sirios de Hadad-ezer que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos; y nunca más quiso el sirio ayudar a los hijos de Amón.
When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and served him. The Syrians would not help the children of Ammon any more.
