Hechos 15
1 ENTONCES algunos que venian de Judéa enseñaban á los hermanos: Que si no os circuncidais, conforme al rito de Moisés, no podeis ser salvos.
Then some men arrived from Judea who started teaching the believers, “Unless you're circumcised according to the rules set down by Moses, you can't be saved.”
2 Así que suscitada una disension y contienda no pequeña á Pablo y á Bernabé contra ellos, determinaron que subiesen Pablo y Bernabé á Jerusalem, y algunos otros de ellos, á los apóstoles y á los ancianos sobre esta cuestion.
Paul and Barnabas had many arguments and debates with them. So Paul and Barnabas and some others were appointed to go to Jerusalem and talk to the apostles and leaders there about this issue.
3 Ellos, pues habiendo sido acompañados de la iglesia [al salir, ] pasaron por la Fenicia y Samaria, contando la conversion de los Gentiles, y daban gran gozo á todos los hermanos.
The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they explained how foreigners were being converted, which made all the believers very happy.
4 Y llegados á Jerusalem, fueron recibidos de la iglesia, y de los apóstoles, y de los ancianos: y refirieron todas las cosas que Dios habla hecho con ellos.
When they arrived in Jerusalem they were welcomed by the church members, the apostles, and the elders. They explained everything God had done through them.
5 Mas algunos de la secta de los Fariséos, que habian creido, se levantaron diciendo: Que es menester circuncidarlos, y mandar[les] que guarden la ley de Moisés.
But they were opposed by some of the believers who belonged to the Pharisee faction. They said, “These converts have to be circumcised, and instructed to observe the law of Moses.”
6 Y se juntaron los apóstoles y los ancianos para conocer de este negocio.
The apostles and elders met together to discuss the issue.
7 Y habiendo habido grande contienda, levantándose Pedro, les dijo: Varones hermanos, vosotros sabeis como ya hace algun tiempo que Dios escogió que los Gentiles oyesen por mi boca la palabra del Evangelio, y creyesen.
After much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that some time ago God chose me from among you so that the foreigners could hear the message of good news and trust in Jesus.
8 Y Dios, que conoce los corazones les dió testimonio, dándoles el Espíritu Santo tambien como á nosotros:
God, who knows thewhat we're thinking, has shown that he accepts them, giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us.
9 Y ninguna diferencia hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando con la fé sus corazones.
He doesn't make any distinction between us and them—he cleansed their thoughts as they trusted in him.
10 Ahora pues, ¿por qué tentais á Dios poniendo yugo sobre la cerviz de los discípulos, que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros hemos podido llevar?
So why do you want to oppose God and put a burden on the believers that our fathers weren't able to bear, and we can't either?
11 Antes por la gracia del Señor Jesus creemos que serémos salvos, como tambien ellos.
We're convinced that we're saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way they are.”
12 Entónces toda la multitud calló, y oyeron á Bernabé y á Pablo que contaban cuán grandes maravillas y señales Dios habia hecho por ellos entre los Gentiles.
Everyone listened attentively to Barnabas and Paul as they explained the miraculous signs that God had performed through them among the foreigners.
13 Y despues que hubieron callado, Jacobo respondió diciendo: Varones hermanos, oidme.
After they had finished speaking, James spoke up, saying, “Brothers, listen to me.
14 Simon ha contado cómo Dios primero visitó á los Gentiles, para tomar de ellos pueblo para su nombre.
Simon has described how God first revealed his concern for the foreigners by taking from them a people committed to him.
15 Y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas, como está escrito:
This is in accordance with the words of the prophets, as it's written,
16 Despues de esto volveré, y restauraré la habitacion de David que estaba caida, y repararé sus ruinas, y la volveré á levantar;
‘In the future I will return, and I will rebuild the fallen house of David; I will rebuild its ruins and set it straight.
17 Para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los Gentiles sobre los cuales es llamado mi nombre, dice el Señor, que hace estas cosas.
I will do this so that those who are left may come to the Lord, including the foreigners who call on my name.
This is what the Lord says, who revealed these things long ago.’ (aiōn g165)
19 Por lo cual yo juzgo, que los que de los Gentiles se convierten á Dios, no han de ser inquietados;
So my decision is that we shouldn't make it difficult for foreigners who turn to God.
20 Sino escribirles que se aparten de las contaminaciones de los ídolos, y de fornicacion, y de ahogado, y de sangre.
We should write to them and tell them to avoid food sacrificed to idols, sexual immorality, meat of animals that have been strangled, and from consuming blood.
21 Porque Moisés desde los tiempos antiguos tiene en cada ciudad quien le predique en las sinagogas, donde es leido cada Sábado.
For the law of Moses has been taught in every town for a long, long time—it's read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”
22 Entónces pareció bien a los apóstoles, y á los ancianos con toda la iglesia, elegir varones de ellos, y enviar[los] á Antioquia con Pablo, y Bernabé; á Júdas, que tenia por sobrenombre Barsabas, y á Silas, varones principales entre los hermanos;
Then the apostles and elders, together with the whole church, decided it would be good to choose some representatives and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas Barsabbas and Silas, leaders among the brothers,
23 Y escribir por mano de ellos [así: ] los apóstoles y los ancianos y los hermanos, á los hermanos de los Gentiles, que están en Antioquía, y en Siria, y en Cilicia, salud:
and sent them with this letter: “Greetings from us, the apostles and elders and brothers, to the non-Jewish brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia:
24 Por cuanto hemos oido que algunos, que han salido de nosotros, os han inquietado con palabras, trastornando vuestras almas, mandando circuncidaros y guardar la ley, á los cuales no mandamos;
We have heard that some from our group have confused you with their teachings, causing you trouble. We certainly didn't tell them to do this!
25 Nos ha parecido, congregados en uno, elegir varones, y enviarles á vosotros con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo,
So we have agreed to choose some representatives and send them to you together with our much-loved brothers Barnabas and Paul,
26 Hombres que han expuesto sus vidas por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesu-Cristo.
who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 Así que, enviamos á Júdas, y á Silas, los cuales tambien por palabra [os] harán saber lo mismo.
So we are sending to you Judas and Silas who can verbally confirm what we're saying.
28 Que ha parecido bien al Espíritu Santo, y á nosotros, no imponeros ninguna carga mas que estas cosas necesarias:
It seemed best to the Holy Spirit and to us not to place on you any heavier burden than these important requirements.
29 Que os abstengais de cosas sacrificadas á ídolos, y de sangre, y de ahogado, y de fornicacion; de las cuales cosas si os guardareis, bien haréis. Pasadlo bien.
You should avoid: anything sacrificed to idols; blood; meat from strangled animals; and sexual immorality. You will do well to observe these requirements. God bless you.”
30 Ellos entónces enviados, descendieron á Antioquia, y juntando la multitud, dieron la carta.
The men were sent on their way to Antioch. When they arrived they called everybody together and delivered the letter.
31 La cual, como leyeron, fueron gozosos de la consolacion.
After they had read it, the people were so happy for the encouraging message.
32 Júdas tambien y Silas, como ellos tambien eran profetas, consolaron y confirmaron los hermanos con abundancia de palabra.
Judas and Silas, who were also prophets, encouraged the brothers, explaining many things, and strengthening them.
33 Y pasando [allí] algun tiempo, fueron enviados de los hermanos á los apóstoles en paz.
After spending some time there they were sent back by the brothers with their blessing to the believers in Jerusalem.
34 Mas á Silas pareció bien de quedarse allí.
35 Y Pablo y Bernabé se estaban en Antioquia enseñando la palabra del Señor, y anunciando el Evangelio con otros muchos.
But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and proclaiming the word of God along with many others.
36 Y despues de algunos dias Pablo dijo á Bernabé: Volvamos á visitar los hermanos por todas las ciudades en las cuales hemos anunciado la palabra del Señor, cómo están.
Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let's go back and visit the believers in every town where we shared the word of the Lord, and see how they're doing.”
37 Y Bernabé queria que tomasen consigo á Juan, el que tenia por sobrenombre Marcos;
Barnabas planned to take along John Mark too.
38 Mas á Pablo no le parecia bien llevar consigo al que se habia apartado de ellos desde Pamphylia, y no habia ido con ellos á la obra.
But Paul didn't think it was a good idea to take him with them, since he'd left them in Pamphylia and hadn't continued working with them.
39 Y hubo tal contencion entre ellos, que se apartaron el uno del otro; y Bernabé tomando á Marcos, navegó á Cipro,
They had such a strong disagreement that they separated. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed to Cyprus.
40 Y Pablo escogiendo á Silas, partió encomendado de los hermanos á la gracia del Señor.
Paul chose Silas, and as they left, the believers committed them to the grace of the Lord.
41 Y anduvo la Siria y la Cilicia confirmando las iglesias.
Paul traveled through Syria and Cilicia, encouraging the churches there.
