Proverbios 18
1 Conforme al deseo busca el apartado: en toda doctrina se envolverá.
He that separateth himself seeketh [his own] desire, and rageth against all sound wisdom.
2 No toma placer el insensato en la inteligencia: mas en lo que se descubre su corazón.
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
3 Cuando viene el impío, viene también el menosprecio; y con el deshonrador, la vergüenza.
When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy cometh reproach.
4 Aguas profundas son las palabras de la boca del hombre; y arroyo revertiente la fuente de la sabiduría.
The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is as a flowing brook.
5 Tener respeto a la persona del impío, para hacer caer al justo de su derecho, no es bueno.
To accept the person of the wicked is not good, [nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
6 Los labios del insensato vienen con pleito; y su boca a cuestiones llama.
A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
7 La boca del insensato es quebrantamiento para sí; y sus labios son lazos para su alma.
A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8 Las palabras del chismoso parecen blandas: mas ellas descienden hasta lo íntimo del vientre.
The words of a whisperer are as dainty, morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9 También el que es negligente en su obra, es hermano del dueño disipador.
He also that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.
10 Torre fuerte es el nombre de Jehová: a él correrá el justo, y será levantado.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11 Las riquezas del rico son la ciudad de su fortaleza; y como un muro alto, en su imaginación.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own imagination.
12 Antes del quebrantamiento se eleva el corazón del hombre; y antes de la honra, el abatimiento.
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour [goeth] humility.
13 El que responde palabra antes de oír, insensatez le es, y vergüenza.
He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
14 El ánimo del hombre suportará su enfermedad: mas al ánimo angustiado, ¿quién le suportará?
The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
15 El corazón del entendido adquiere sabiduría; y el oído de los sabios busca la ciencia.
The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 El presente del hombre le ensancha el camino; y le lleva delante de los grandes.
A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17 El justo es primero en su pleito; y su adversario viene, y búscale.
He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.
18 La suerte pone fin a los pleitos; y desparte los fuertes.
The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19 El hermano ofendido es más contumaz que una ciudad fuerte; y las contiendas de los hermanos son como cerrojos de alcázar.
A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20 Del fruto de la boca del hombre se hartará su vientre: de la renta de sus labios se hartará.
A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
21 La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua; y el que la ama, comerá de sus frutos.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22 El que halló mujer, halló el bien; y alcanzó la benevolencia de Jehová.
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23 El pobre habla ruegos; mas el rico responde durezas.
The poor useth entreaties: but the rich answereth roughly.
24 El hombre de amigos mantiénese en amistad; y a veces hay amigo más conjunto que el hermano.
He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction: but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
