San Mateo 25
1 Entonces el reino de los cielos será semejante a diez vírgenes, que tomando sus lámparas, salieron a recibir al esposo.
‘Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.
2 Y las cinco de ellas eran prudentes, y las cinco insensatas.
Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
3 Las que eran insensatas, tomando sus lámparas, no tomaron aceite consigo.
The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them;
4 Mas las prudentes tomaron aceite en sus vasos, juntamente con sus lámparas.
while the prudent ones, besides taking their lamps, took oil in their jars.
5 Y tardándose el esposo, cabecearon todas, y se durmieron.
As the groom was late in coming, they all became drowsy, and slept.
6 Y a la media noche fue oído un clamor, que decía: He aquí, el esposo viene, salíd a recibirle.
But at midnight a shout was raised – “The groom is coming! Come out to meet him!”
7 Entonces todas aquellas vírgenes se levantaron, y aderezaron sus lámparas.
Then all the bridesmaids woke up and trimmed their lamps,
8 Y las insensatas dijeron a las prudentes: Dádnos de vuestro aceite, porque nuestras lámparas se apagan.
and the foolish said to the prudent “Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.”
9 Mas las prudentes respondieron, diciendo: Porque no nos falte a nosotras y a vosotras, id antes a los que venden, y comprád para vosotras.
But the prudent ones answered “No, There may not be enough for you and for us. Go instead to those who sell it, and buy for yourselves.”
10 E idas ellas a comprar, vino el esposo; y las que estaban apercibidas, entraron con él a las bodas; y se cerró la puerta.
But while they were on their way to buy it, the groom came; and the bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the banquet, and the door was shut.
11 Y después vinieron también las otras vírgenes, diciendo: Señor, señor, ábrenos.
Afterwards the other bridesmaids came. “Sir, Sir,” they said, “open the door to us!”
12 Mas respondiendo él, dijo: De cierto os digo, que no os conozco.
But the groom answered “I tell you, I do not know you.”
13 Velád pues, porque no sabéis el día ni la hora, en la cual el Hijo del hombre ha de venir.
Therefore watch, since you know neither the day nor the hour.
14 Porque el reino de los cielos es como un hombre que partiéndose lejos, llamó a sus siervos, y les entregó sus bienes.
‘For it is as though a man, going on his travels, called his servants, and gave his property into their charge.
15 Y a éste dio cinco talentos, y al otro dos, y al otro uno; a cada uno conforme a su facultad, y se partió luego lejos.
He gave five bags of gold to one, two to another, and one bag to a third, in proportion to the ability of each. Then he set out on his travels.
16 Y partido él, el que había recibido cinco talentos, granjeó con ellos, e hizo otros cinco talentos.
The servant who had received the five bags of gold went at once and traded with it, and made another five bags.
17 Semejantemente también el que había recibido dos, ganó también él otros dos.
So, too, the servant who had received the two bags of gold made another two bags.
18 Mas el que había recibido uno, fue, y cavó en la tierra, y escondió el dinero de su señor.
But the servant who had received the one bag went and dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.
19 Y después de mucho tiempo vino el señor de aquellos siervos, e hizo cuentas con ellos.
After a long time the master of those servants returned, and settled accounts with them.
20 Y llegando el que había recibido cinco talentos, trajo otros cinco talentos, diciendo: Señor, cinco talentos me entregaste; he aquí, otros cinco talentos he ganado con ellos.
The servant who had received the five bags of gold came up and brought five bags more. “Sir,” he said, “you entrusted me with five bags of gold; look, I have made another five bags!”
21 Y su señor le dijo: Bien está, buen siervo y fiel: sobre poco has sido fiel, sobre mucho te pondré: entra en el gozo de tu señor.
“Well done, good, trustworthy servant!” said his master. “You have been trustworthy with a small sum; now I will place a large one in your hands; come and share your master’s joy!”
22 Y llegando también el que había recibido dos talentos, dijo: Señor, dos talentos me entregaste; he aquí, otros dos talentos he ganado sobre ellos.
Then the one who had received the two bags of gold came up and said “Sir, you entrusted me with two bags pounds; look, I have made another two!”
23 Su señor le dijo: Bien está, buen siervo y fiel: sobre poco has sido fiel, sobre mucho te pondré: entra en el gozo de tu señor.
“Well done, good, trustworthy servant!” said his master. “You have been trustworthy with a small sum; now I will place a large one in your hands; come and share your master’s joy!”
24 Y llegando también el que había recibido un talento, dijo: Señor, yo te conocía que eres hombre duro, que siegas donde no sembraste, y coges donde no derramaste:
The man who had received the single bag of gold came up, too, and said “Sir, I knew that you were a hard man; you reap where you have not sown, and gather up where you have not winnowed;
25 Por tanto tuve miedo, y fui, y escondí tu talento en la tierra: he aquí, tienes lo que es tuyo.
and, in my fear, I went and hid your money in the ground; look, here is what belongs to you!”
26 Y respondiendo su señor, le dijo: Mal siervo y negligente, sabías que siego donde no sembré, y que cojo donde no derramé.
“You lazy, worthless servant!” was his master’s reply. “You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather up where I have not winnowed?
27 Por tanto te convenía dar mi dinero a los banqueros, y viniendo yo, recibiera lo que es mío con usura.
Then you ought to have placed my money in the hands of bankers, and I, on my return, should have received my money, with interest.
28 Quitádle pues el talento, y dád lo al que tiene diez talentos.
Therefore,” he continued, “take away from him the one bag of gold, and give it to the one who has the ten bags.
29 Porque a cualquiera que tuviere le será dado, y tendrá más; pero al que no tuviere, aun lo que tiene le será quitado.
For, to him who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but, as for him who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away from him.
30 Y al siervo inútil echádle en las tinieblas de afuera: allí será el llorar, y el crujir de dientes.
As for the useless servant, put him out into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.”
31 Cuando el Hijo del hombre vendrá en su gloria, y todos los santos ángeles con él, entonces se sentará sobre el trono de su gloria.
‘When the Son of Man has come in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory;
32 Y serán juntadas delante de él todas las naciones, y los apartará los unos de los otros, como aparta el pastor las ovejas de los cabritos;
and all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people – just as a shepherd separates sheep from goats –
33 Y pondrá las ovejas a su derecha, y los cabritos a la izquierda.
placing the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on his left.
34 Entonces el Rey dirá a los que estarán a su derecha: Veníd, benditos de mi Padre, poseéd el reino aparejado para vosotros desde la fundación del mundo;
Then the king will say to those on his right “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, enter into possession of the kingdom prepared for you ever since the beginning of the world.
35 Porque tuve hambre, y me disteis de comer: tuve sed, y me disteis de beber: fui extranjero, y me recogisteis:
For, when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was a stranger, you took me to your homes;
36 Desnudo, y me cubristeis: enfermo, y me visitasteis: estuve en la cárcel, y vinisteis a mí.
when I was naked, you clothed me; when I fell ill, you visited me; and when I was in prison, you came to me.”
37 Entonces los justos le responderán, diciendo: Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento, y te sustentámos? ¿o sediento, y te dimos de beber?
Then the righteous will answer “Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you? Or thirsty, and give you a drink?
38 ¿Cuando te vimos extranjero, y te recogimos? ¿o desnudo, y te cubrímos?
When did we see you a stranger, and take you to our homes? Or naked, and clothe you?
39 ¿O cuándo te vimos enfermo, o en la cárcel, y vinimos a ti?
When did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you?”
40 Y respondiendo el Rey, les dirá: De cierto os digo, que en cuanto lo hicisteis a uno de estos mis hermanos pequeñitos, a mí lo hicisteis.
And the king will reply “I tell you, as often as you did it to one of these my brothers or sisters, however unimportant they seemed, you did it to me.”
41 Entonces dirá también a los que estarán a la izquierda: Idos de mí, malditos, al fuego eterno, que está aparejado para el diablo y sus ángeles; (aiōnios g166)
Then he will say to those on his left “Go from my presence, accursed, into the permanent fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels. (aiōnios g166)
42 Porque tuve hambre, y no me disteis de comer: tuve sed, y no me disteis de beber:
For, when I was hungry, you gave me no food; when I was thirsty, you gave me no drink;
43 Fui extranjero, y no me recogisteis: desnudo, y no me cubristeis: enfermo, y en la cárcel estuve, y no me visitasteis.
when I was a stranger, you did not take me to your homes; when I was naked, you did not clothe me; and, when I was ill and in prison, you did not visit me.”
44 Entonces también ellos le responderán, diciendo: Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento, o sediento, o extranjero, o desnudo, o enfermo, o en la cárcel, y no te servimos?
Then they, in their turn, will answer “Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and did not supply your wants?”
45 Entonces les responderá, diciendo: De cierto os digo, que en cuanto no lo hicisteis a uno de estos pequeñitos, ni a mí lo hicisteis.
And then he will reply “I tell you, as often as you failed to do it to one of these, however unimportant, you failed to do it to me.”
