San Mateo 23
1 Entonces Jesús habló a la multitud, y a sus discípulos,
Then Jesus addressed the crowds and His disciples.
2 Diciendo: Sobre la cátedra de Moisés se asientan los escribas y los Fariseos:
"The Scribes," He said, "and the Pharisees sit in the chair of Moses.
3 Así que todo lo que os dijeren que guardéis, guardád lo, y hacéd lo; mas no hagáis conforme a sus obras; porque dicen y no hacen.
Therefore do and observe everything that they command you; but do not imitate their lives, for though they tell others what to do, they do not do it themselves.
4 Porque atan cargas pesadas, y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; mas ni aun con su dedo las quieren mover.
Heavy and cumbrous burdens they bind together and load men's shoulders with them, while as for themselves, not with one finger do they choose to lift them.
5 Antes todas sus obras hacen para ser mirados de los hombres; porque ensanchan sus filacterias, y extienden los flecos de sus mantos,
And everything they do they do with a view to being observed by men; for they widen their phylacteries and make the tassels large,
6 Y aman los primeros asientos en las cenas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas,
and love the best seats at a dinner party or in the synagogues,
7 Y las salutaciones en las plazas, y ser llamados de los hombres, Rabbi, Rabbi.
and like to be bowed to in places of public resort, and to be addressed by men as 'Rabbi.'
8 Mas vosotros, no queráis ser llamados Rabbies; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo, y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
"As for you, do not accept the title of 'Rabbi,' for one alone is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.
9 Y vuestro Padre no llaméis a nadie en la tierra; porque uno es vuestro Padre, el cual está en los cielos.
And call no one on earth your Father, for One alone is your Father--the Heavenly Father.
10 Ni os llaméis doctores; porque uno es vuestro Doctor, el Cristo.
And do not accept the name of 'leader,' for your Leader is one alone--the Christ.
11 Mas el que es el mayor de vosotros, sea vuestro siervo.
He who is the greatest among you shall be your servant;
12 Porque el que se enalteciere será humillado; y el que se humillare será enaltecido.
and one who exalts himself shall be abased, while one who abases himself shall be exalted.
13 Mas ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres; que ni vosotros entráis, ni a los que entran dejáis entrar.
"But alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you lock the door of the Kingdom of the Heavens against men; you yourselves do not enter, nor do you allow those to enter who are seeking to do so.
14 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque devoráis las casas de las viudas con color de larga oración; por esto llevaréis más grave juicio.
15 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque rodeáis la mar y la tierra por hacer un prosélito; y cuando fuere hecho, le hacéis hijo del infierno dos veces más que vosotros. (Geenna g1067)
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you scour sea and land in order to win one convert--and when he is gained, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 ¡Ay de vosotros, guias ciegos! que decís: Cualquiera que jurare por el templo, es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el oro del templo, deudor es.
"Alas for you, you blind guides, who say, "'Whoever swears by the Sanctuary it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the Sanctuary, is bound by the oath.'
17 ¡Insensatos y ciegos! porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el oro, o el templo que santifica al oro?
"Blind fools! Why, which is greater? --the gold, or the Sanctuary which has made the gold holy?
18 Y, cualquiera que jurare por el altar, es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el presente que está sobre él, deudor es.
And you say, "'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering lying on it is bound by the oath.'
19 ¡Insensatos y ciegos! porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el presente, o el altar que santifica al presente?
"You are blind! Why, which is greater? --the offering, or the altar which makes the offering holy?
20 Pues el que jurare por el altar, jura por él, y por todo lo que está sobre él.
He who swears by the altar swears both by it and by everything on it;
21 Y el que jurare por el templo, jura por él, y por el que habita en él.
he who swears by the Sanctuary swears both by it and by Him who dwells in it;
22 Y el que jurare por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios, y por el que está sentado sobre él.
and he who swears by Heaven swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
23 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque diezmáis la menta, y el eneldo, y el comino, y dejasteis lo que es lo más grave de la ley, es a saber, el juicio, y la misericordia, y la fe. Esto era menester hacer, y no dejar lo otro.
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you pay the tithe on mint, dill, and cumin, while you have neglected the weightier requirements of the Law--just judgement, mercy, and faithful dealing. These things you ought to have done, and yet you ought not to have left the others undone.
24 ¡Guias ciegos! que coláis el mosquito, mas tragáis el camello.
You blind guides, straining out the gnat while you gulp down the camel!
25 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque limpiáis lo que está de fuera del vaso, o del plato; mas de dentro está todo lleno de robo y de injusticia.
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you wash clean the outside of the cup or dish, while within they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
26 ¡Fariseo ciego! limpia primero lo que está dentro del vaso y del plato, para que también lo que está de fuera se haga limpio.
Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also.
27 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque sois semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados, que de fuera, a la verdad, se muestran hermosos; mas de dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos, y de toda suciedad.
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you are just like whitewashed sepulchres, the outside of which pleases the eye, though inside they are full of dead men's bones and of all that is unclean.
28 Así también vosotros, de fuera, a la verdad, os mostráis justos a los hombres; mas de dentro, llenos estáis de hipocresía e iniquidad.
The same is true of you: outwardly you seem to the human eye to be good and honest men, but, within, you are full of insincerity and disregard of God's Law.
29 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas, y adornáis los monumentos de los justos,
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you repair the sepulchres of the Prophets and keep in order the tombs of the righteous,
30 Y decís: Si fuéramos en los días de nuestros padres, no hubiéramos sido sus compañeros en la sangre de los profetas.
and your boast is, "'If we had lived in the time of our forefathers, we should not have been implicated with them in the murder of the Prophets.'
31 Así que testimonio dais a vosotros mismos que sois hijos de aquellos que mataron a los profetas.
"So that you bear witness against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the Prophets.
32 Vosotros también henchíd la medida de vuestros padres.
Fill up the measure of your forefathers' guilt.
O serpents, O vipers' brood, how are you to escape condemnation to Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
34 Por tanto, he aquí, yo envío a vosotros profetas, y sabios, y escribas; y de ellos unos mataréis y crucificaréis; y otros de ellos azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas, y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad;
"For this reason I am sending to you Prophets and wise men and Scribes. Some of them you will put to death--nay, crucify; some of them you will flog in your synagogues and chase from town to town;
35 Para que venga sobre vosotros toda la sangre justa que se ha derramado sobre la tierra, desde la sangre de Abel el justo, hasta la sangre de Zacarías, hijo de Baraquías, al cual matasteis entre el templo y el altar.
that all the innocent blood shed upon earth may come on you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Berechiah whom you murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar.
36 De cierto os digo, que todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.
I tell you in solemn truth that all these things will come upon the present generation.
37 ¡Jerusalem! ¡Jerusalem! que matas los profetas, y apedreas a los que son enviados a ti, cuántas veces quise juntar tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus pollos debajo de las alas, y no quisiste.
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem! thou who murderest the Prophets and stonest those who have been sent to thee! how often have I desired to gather thy children to me, just as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not come!
38 He aquí, vuestra casa os es dejada desierta.
See, your house will now be left to you desolate!
39 Porque yo os digo, que desde ahora no me veréis, hasta que digáis: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor.
For I tell you that you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessed be He who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
