Juan 11
1 Estaba entonces enfermo un hombre llamado Lázaro, de Betania, la aldea de María y de Marta su hermana.
Now a certain [man] was sick, [named] Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 (Era María la que ungió al Señor con ungüento, y limpió sus pies con sus cabellos, cuyo hermano Lázaro estaba enfermo.)
(It was [that] Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
3 Enviaron pues sus hermanas a él, diciendo: Señor, he aquí, el que amas está enfermo.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
4 Y oyéndo lo Jesús, dijo: Esta enfermedad no es para muerte, sino por gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado por ella.
When Jesus heard [that], he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
5 Y amaba Jesús a Marta, y a su hermana, y a Lázaro.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 Como oyó, pues, que estaba enfermo, entonces a la verdad se quedó dos días en aquel lugar donde estaba.
When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
7 Luego después de esto dijo a sus discípulos: Vamos a Judea otra vez.
Then after that saith he to [his] disciples, Let us go into Judæa again.
8 Dícenle sus discípulos: Rabbi, ahora poco procuraban los Judíos apedrearte, ¿y vas otra vez allá?
[His] disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
9 Respondió Jesús: ¿No tiene el día doce horas? El que anduviere de día, no tropieza, porque ve la luz de este mundo.
Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
10 Mas el que anduviere de noche, tropieza, porque no hay luz en él.
But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
11 Dicho esto, díceles después: Lázaro nuestro amigo duerme; mas voy a despertarle del sueño.
These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
12 Dijéronle entonces sus discípulos: Señor, si duerme, bueno estará.
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13 Mas esto decía Jesús de la muerte de él; y ellos pensaron que hablaba de dormir de sueño.
Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14 Entonces pues Jesús les dijo claramente: Lázaro es muerto;
Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
15 Y huélgome por vosotros, que yo no haya estado allí, porque creáis; mas vamos a él.
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
16 Dijo entonces Tomás, el que se llama Dídimo, a sus condiscípulos: Vamos también nosotros, para que muramos con él.
Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17 Vino pues Jesús, y hallólo, que había cuatro días que estaba en el sepulcro.
Then when Jesus came, he found that he had [lain] in the grave four days already.
18 Betania estaba cerca de Jerusalem como quince estadios.
Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
19 Y muchos de los Judíos habían venido a Marta y a María, para consolarlas de su hermano.
And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 Entonces Marta, como oyó que Jesús venía, le salió a recibir; mas María estaba sentada en casa.
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat [still] in the house.
21 Entonces Marta dijo a Jesús: Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no hubiera muerto.
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 Mas sé que también ahora, todo lo que pidieres a Dios, te lo dará Dios.
But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give [it] thee.
23 Dícele Jesús: Resucitará tu hermano.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Marta le dice: Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el día postrero.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Dícele Jesús: Yo soy la resurrección, y la vida: el que cree en mí, aunque esté muerto, vivirá;
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (aiōn g165)
27 Ella le dice: Sí, Señor, yo he creído que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, que había de venir al mundo.
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
28 Y esto dicho, se fue, y llamó en secreto a María su hermana, diciendo: El Maestro está aquí, y te llama.
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
29 Ella, como lo oyó, se levanta prestamente, y viene a él.
As soon as she heard [that], she arose quickly, and came unto him.
30 (Porque aun no había llegado Jesús a la aldea, mas estaba en aquel lugar donde Marta le había salido a recibir.)
Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
31 Entonces los Judíos que estaban en casa con ella, y la consolaban, como vieron que María se había levantado prestamente, y había salido, la siguieron, diciendo: Va al sepulcro a llorar allí.
The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
32 Mas María, como vino donde estaba Jesús, viéndole, derribóse a sus pies, diciéndole: Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, no hubiera muerto mi hermano.
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 Jesús entonces como la vio llorando, y a los Judíos que habían venido juntamente con ella llorando, gimió en espíritu, y se turbó,
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
34 Y dijo: ¿Dónde le pusisteis? Dícenle: Señor, ven, y lo verás.
And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 Jesús lloraba.
Jesus wept.
36 Dijeron entonces los Judíos: ¡He aquí cómo le amaba!
Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
37 Y algunos de ellos dijeron: ¿No podía éste, que abrió los ojos del ciego, hacer que éste no muriera?
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
38 Y Jesús, gimiendo otra vez en sí mismo, vino al sepulcro, que era una cueva, la cual tenía una piedra puesta encima.
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39 Dice Jesús: Quitád la piedra. Marta, la hermana del que había sido muerto, le dice: Señor, hiede ya; que es muerto de cuatro días.
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been [dead] four days.
40 Jesús le dice: ¿No te he dicho que si creyeres, verás la gloria de Dios?
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
41 Entonces quitaron la piedra de donde el muerto había sido puesto; y Jesús, alzando los ojos arriba, dijo: Padre, gracias te doy porque me has oído.
Then they took away the stone [from the place] where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up [his] eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42 Y yo sabía que siempre me oyes; mas por causa del pueblo que está al rededor lo dije, para que crean que tú me has enviado.
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said [it], that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43 Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, clamó a gran voz: Lázaro, ven fuera.
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 Entonces el que había sido muerto, salió, atadas las manos y los pies con vendas; y su rostro estaba envuelto en un sudario. Díceles Jesús: Desatádle, y dejádle ir.
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
45 Entonces muchos de los Judíos que habían venido a María, y habían visto lo que había hecho Jesús, creyeron en él.
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
46 Mas algunos de ellos fueron a los Fariseos, y les dijeron lo que Jesús había hecho.
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
47 Entonces los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los Fariseos juntaron concilio, y decían: ¿Qué hacemos? porque este hombre hace muchos milagros.
Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 Si le dejamos así, todos creerán en él; y vendrán los Romanos, y quitarán nuestro lugar y la nación.
If we let him thus alone, all [men] will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49 Entonces Caifás, uno de ellos, sumo sacerdote de aquel año, les dijo: Vosotros no sabéis nada,
And one of them, [named] Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Ni consideráis que nos conviene que un hombre muera por el pueblo, y no que toda la nación se pierda.
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 Mas esto no lo dijo de sí mismo; sino que, como era el sumo sacerdote de aquel año, profetizó que Jesús había de morir por la nación;
And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 Y no solamente por aquella nación, mas también para que juntase en uno a los hijos de Dios que estaban dispersos.
And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
53 Así que desde aquel día consultaban juntos para matarle.
Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
54 De manera que Jesús ya no andaba manifiestamente entre los Judíos; mas se fue de allí a la tierra que está junto al desierto, a una ciudad que se llama Efraím; y estábase allí con sus discípulos.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
55 Y la pascua de los Judíos estaba cerca; y muchos de la tierra subieron a Jerusalem antes de la pascua para purificarse.
And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
56 Y buscaban a Jesús, y hablaban los unos con los otros estando en el templo: ¿Qué os parece, que no vendrá a la fiesta?
Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
57 Mas los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los Fariseos habían dado mandamiento, que si alguno supiese donde estuviera, que lo manifestase, para que le prendiesen.
Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew [it], that they might take him.
