Job 39
1 ¿Sabes tú el tiempo en qué paren las cabras monteses? ¿o miraste tú las ciervas, cuando están pariendo?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 ¿Contaste tú los meses de su preñez? ¿y sabes el tiempo cuando han de parir?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 Como se encorvan, quebrantan sus hijos, pasan sus dolores:
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Como después sanan los hijos, crecen con el grano: salen, y nunca más vuelven a ellas.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
5 ¿Quién echó libre al asno montés? ¿y quién soltó sus ataduras?
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6 Al cual yo puse casa en la soledad, y sus moradas en la tierra salada.
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 Ríese de la multitud de la ciudad: no oye las voces del pechero.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 Lo oculto de los montes es su pasto, y anda buscando todo lo que está verde.
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 ¿Querrá el unicornio servirte a ti, ni quedar a tu pesebre?
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 ¿Atarás tú al unicornio con su coyunda para el surco? ¿labrará los valles en pos de ti?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 ¿Confiarás tú en él, por ser grande su fortaleza, y fiarás de él tu labor?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 ¿Fiarás de él que te tornará tu simiente, y que allegará en tu era?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13 ¿Hiciste tú las alas alegres del avestruz: los cañones y la pluma de la cigüeña?
Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
14 La cual desampara en la tierra sus huevos, y sobre el polvo los calienta,
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15 Y olvídase de que los pisará algún pie, y que los quebrará alguna bestia del campo.
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 Endurécese para con sus hijos, como si no fuesen suyos, no temiendo de que su trabajo haya sido en vano:
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 Porque Dios la hizo olvidar de sabiduría, y no le dio inteligencia.
Because Eloah hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 A su tiempo se levanta en alto, y se burla del caballo, y del que sube en él.
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 ¿Diste tú al caballo la fortaleza? ¿vestiste tú su cerviz de relincho?
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 ¿Espantarle has tú como a alguna langosta, en cuya nariz hay fuerza para espantar?
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21 Escarba la tierra, alégrase en su fuerza, sale al encuentro de las armas:
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 Hace burla del espanto, y no teme; ni vuelve el rostro delante de la espada.
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 Contra él suena la aljaba, el hierro de la lanza, y de la pica;
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 Y él con ímpetu y furor escarba la tierra, y no estima el sonido de la bocina.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25 Entre las bocinas dice: ¡Ea! y desde lejos huele la batalla, el estruendo de los príncipes, y el clamor.
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 ¿Vuela el gavilán por tu industria, y extiende sus alas hacia el mediodía?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27 ¿Enaltécese el águila por tu mandamiento, y pone en alto su nido:
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 Habita, y está en la piedra en la cumbre del peñasco, y de la roca?
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 Desde allí asecha la comida: sus ojos consideran muy lejos.
From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
30 Y sus pollos tragan sangre; y adonde hubiere muertos, allí está.
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
