Gálatas 4
1 Mas digo: Entre tanto que el heredero es niño, en nada difiere del siervo, aunque es señor de todo.
Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth in no respect from a bond-servant, though he is lord of all;
2 Antes está debajo de la mano de tutores y curadores hasta el tiempo señalado por el padre.
but is under guardians and stewards, until the time appointed by the father.
3 Así también nosotros, cuando éramos niños, estábamos sujetos a servidumbre debajo de los elementos del mundo.
So also we, when we were children, were in bondage under the rudiments of the world;
4 Mas venido el cumplimiento del tiempo, Dios envió a su Hijo, hecho de mujer, hecho debajo de la ley;
but when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5 Para que redimiese los que estaban debajo de la ley, a fin de que recibiésemos la adopción de hijos.
to redeem those under the Law, that we might be adopted as sons.
6 Y por cuanto sois hijos, envió Dios el Espíritu de su Hijo en vuestros corazones, el cual clama: Abba. Padre.
And to show that ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father!
7 Así que ya no eres más siervo, sino hijo; y si hijo, también heredero de Dios por Cristo.
So then thou art no longer a bond-servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
8 Empero entonces, cuando no conocíais a Dios, servíais a los que por naturaleza no son dioses;
But at that time, indeed, when ye knew not God, ye were in slavery to those who in their nature are not gods;
9 Mas ahora habiendo conocido a Dios, o más bien siendo conocidos de Dios, ¿cómo es que os volvéis de nuevo a los flacos y necesitados rudimentos, a los cuales queréis volver a servir?
but now, after having known God, or rather having been known by God, how is it that ye are turning back to the weak and beggarly rudiments to which ye wish to be again in bondage?
10 Guardáis días, y meses, y tiempos, y años.
Do ye observe days, and months, and times, and years?
11 Miedo tengo de vosotros, de que no haya yo trabajado en vano en vosotros.
I fear for you, lest I may have bestowed upon you labor in vain.
12 Os ruego, hermanos, que seáis como yo; porque yo soy como vosotros: ningún agravio me habéis hecho.
Brethren, I beseech you, become as I am, for I also have become as ye are; ye injured me in nothing.
13 Vosotros sabéis, que en flaqueza de la carne os anuncié el evangelio al principio.
Nay, ye know that it was on account of an infirmity of the flesh that I preached the gospel to you the former time,
14 Empero mi tentación que fue en mi carne no desechasteis ni menospreciasteis; antes me recibisteis como a un ángel de Dios, como al mismo Cristo Jesús.
and my trial which was in my flesh ye did not despise nor spurn; but received me as an angel of God, yea, as Christ Jesus.
15 ¿Dónde está, pues, vuestra bienaventuranza? porque yo os doy testimonio, que si hubiera sido posible, vuestros mismos ojos hubierais sacado para dármelos.
How great then was your boasting of happiness! for I bear you witness, that if possible, ye would have plucked out your eyes, and have given them to me.
16 ¿Me he hecho pues vuestro enemigo, diciéndoos la verdad?
So then, have I become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
17 Ellos tienen zelo por vosotros, mas no bien; antes os quieren separar de nosotros para que vosotros tengáis zelo por ellos.
They show a zeal for you, but not in honesty; yea, they wish to exclude you, that ye may be zealous for them.
18 Bueno es ser zelosos, mas en bien siempre; y no solamente cuando estoy presente con vosotros.
But it is good to be an object of zeal in what is good always, and not only when I am present with you.
19 Hijitos míos, por quienes vuelvo otra vez a estar en dolores de parto, hasta que Cristo sea formado en vosotros:
My children, with whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you, —
20 Querría estar presente con vosotros ahora, y mudar mi voz; porque estoy perplejo acerca de vosotros.
I could wish indeed to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am in perplexity about you.
21 Decídme, los que queréis estar debajo de la ley, ¿no oís a la ley?
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the Law, do ye not hear the Law?
22 Porque escrito está: Que Abraham tuvo dos hijos: uno de la sierva, y uno de la libre.
For it is written, that Abraham had two sons; the one by the bondwoman, the other by the freewoman.
23 Mas el que era de la sierva, nació según la carne; el que era de la libre, nació por la promesa:
But the one by the bondwoman was born after the flesh; while the one by the freewoman was through the promise.
24 Las cuales cosas son una alegoría; porque estos son los dos conciertos. El uno del monte de Sina, que engendra para servidumbre, el cual es Agar.
Which things are written allegorically; for these women are two covenants; the one from Mount Sinai, who beareth children into bondage, which is Hagar;
25 Porque Agar es Sina, monte de Arabia, el cual corresponde a la Jerusalem que ahora es, la cual está en servidumbre con sus hijos.
for the word Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; and she corresponds to the Jerusalem now existing, for she is in bondage with her children;
26 Mas aquella Jerusalem que está arriba, libre es; la cual es la madre de todos nosotros.
but the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
27 Porque está escrito: Alégrate estéril, que no pares; rompe en alabanzas y clama, tú que no estás de parto; porque más son los hijos de la desamparada, que de la que tiene marido.
For it is written: “Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not; for many are the children of the desolate one, rather than of her who hath the husband.”
28 Así que, hermanos, nosotros, como Isaac, somos hijos de la promesa.
But ye, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of a promise.
29 Empero como entonces el que nació según la carne, perseguía al que nació según el Espíritu; así también ahora.
But as at that time he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born through the Spirit, so it is now.
30 Mas ¿qué dice la Escritura? Echa fuera a la sierva y a su hijo; porque no será heredero el hijo de la sierva con el hijo de la libre.
But what saith the scripture? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son; for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.”
31 De manera que, hermanos, no somos hijos de la sierva, sino de la libre.
So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, but of the freewoman.
