Éxodo 5

1 Después de esto Moisés y Aarón entraron a Faraón, y dijéronle: Jehová, el Dios de Israel, dice así: Deja ir mi pueblo a celebrarme fiesta en el desierto.

And after this went in Moses and Aaron to Pharao, and they said to him, These things says the Lord God of Israel, Send my people away, that they may keep a feast to me in the wilderness.

2 Y Faraón respondió: ¿Quién es Jehová, para que yo oiga su voz, y deje ir a Israel? Yo no conozco a Jehová, ni tampoco dejaré ir a Israel.

And Pharao said, Who is he that I should listen to his voice, so that I should send away the children of Israel? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.

3 Y ellos dijeron: El Dios de los Hebreos nos ha encontrado: por tanto nosotros iremos ahora camino de tres días por el desierto, y sacrificaremos a Jehová nuestro Dios: porque no nos encuentre con pestilencia, o espada.

And they say to him, The God of the Hebrews has called us to him: we will go therefore a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest at any time death or slaughter happen to us.

4 Entonces el rey de Egipto les dijo: Moisés, y Aarón: ¿Por qué hacéis cesar al pueblo de su obra? Id a vuestros cargos.

And the king of Egypt said to them, Why do you, Moses and Aaron, turn the people from their works? depart each of you to your works.

5 Dijo también Faraón: He aquí, el pueblo de la tierra es ahora mucho, y vosotros los hacéis cesar de sus cargos.

And Pharao said, Behold now, the people is very numerous; let us not then give them rest from their work.

6 Y mandó Faraón aquel mismo día a los cuadrilleros del pueblo que tenían cargo del pueblo, y a los gobernadores de él, diciendo:

And Pharao gave orders to the taskmasters of the people and the accountants, saying,

7 De aquí a delante no daréis paja al pueblo para hacer el ladrillo, como ayer y anteayer; vayan ellos, y cójanse la paja;

You shall no longer give straw to the people for brick-making as yesterday and the third day; but let them go themselves, and collect straw for themselves.

8 Y ponerles heis la tarea del ladrillo que hacían antes, y no les disminuiréis nada; porque están ociosos, y por eso dan voces, diciendo: Vamos, y sacrificaremos a nuestro Dios.

And you shall impose on them daily the rate of brick-making which they perform: you shall not abate anything, for they are idle; therefore have they cried, saying, Let us arise and do sacrifice to our God.

9 Agrávese la servidumbre sobre ellos, para que se ocupen en ella, y no miren a palabras de mentira.

Let the works of these men be made grievous, and let them care for these things, and not care for vain words.

10 Y saliendo los cuadrilleros del pueblo, y sus gobernadores, hablaron al pueblo, diciendo: Así ha dicho Faraón: Yo no os doy paja.

And the taskmasters and the accountants hastened them, and they spoke to the people, saying, thus says Pharao, I [will] give you straw no longer.

11 Id vosotros, y tomáos paja, donde la hallareis: que nada se disminuirá de vuestra tarea.

Go you, yourselves, get for yourselves straw whenever you can find it, for nothing is diminished from your rate.

12 Entonces el pueblo se derramó por toda la tierra de Egipto a coger hojarascas en lugar de paja.

So the people were dispersed in all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw.

13 Y los cuadrilleros los apremiaban, diciendo: Acabád vuestra obra, la tarea del día en su día, como cuando se os daba paja.

and the taskmasters hastened them, saying, Fulfil your regular daily tasks, even as when straw was given you.

14 Y azotaban a los gobernadores de los hijos de Israel, que los cuadrilleros de Faraón habían puesto sobre ellos, diciendo: ¿Por qué no habéis cumplido vuestra tarea de ladrillo ni ayer ni hoy, como antes?

And the accountants of the race of the children of Israel, who were set over them by the masters of Pharao, were scourged, [[and questioned, ] men] saying, Why have you not fulfilled your rates of brick work as yesterday and the third day, today also?

15 Y los gobernadores de los hijos de Israel vinieron, y quejáronse a Faraón, diciendo: ¿Por qué lo haces así con tus siervos?

And the accountants of the children of Israel went in and cried to Pharao, saying, Why do you act thus to your servants?

16 No se da paja a tus siervos, y con todo eso nos dicen: Hacéd el ladrillo. Y he aquí, tus siervos son azotados, y tu pueblo peca.

Straw is not given to your servants, and they tell us to make brick; and behold your servants have been scourged: you will therefore injure your people.

17 Y él respondió: Estáis ociosos, ociosos: y por eso decís: Vamos y sacrifiquemos a Jehová,

And he said to them, You are idle, you are idlers: therefore you say, Let us go [and] do sacrifice to our God.

18 Id pues ahora, trabajád. Paja no se os dará, y daréis la tarea del ladrillo.

Now then go and work, for straw shall not be given to you, yet you shall return the rate of bricks.

19 Entonces los gobernadores de los hijos de Israel se vieron en aflicción, cuando les era dicho: No se disminuirá nada de vuestro ladrillo, de la tarea del día en su día.

And the accountants of the children of Israel saw themselves in an evil plight, [men] saying, You shall not fail to deliver the daily rate of the brick-making.

20 Y encontrando a Moisés y a Aarón que estaban delante de ellos cuando salían de Faraón,

And they met Moses and Aaron coming forth to meet them, as they came forth from Pharao.

21 Dijéronles: Mire Jehová sobre vosotros, y juzgue, que habéis hecho heder nuestro olor delante de Faraón, y de sus siervos, dándoles la espada en las manos para que nos maten.

And they said to them, The Lord look upon you and judge you, for you have made our savor abominable before Pharao, and before his servants, to put a sword into his hands to kill us.

22 Entonces Moisés se volvió a Jehová, y dijo: Señor, ¿por qué afliges a este pueblo? ¿Para qué me enviaste?

And Moses turned to the Lord, and said, I pray, Lord, why have you afflicted this people? and therefore have you sent me?

23 Porque desde que yo vine a Faraón para hablarle en tu nombre, ha afligido a este pueblo, y tú tampoco has librado a tu pueblo.

For from the time that I went to Pharao to speak in your name, he has afflicted this people, and you have not delivered your people.
