Ester 8

1 El mismo día dio el rey Asuero a la reina Ester la casa de Amán enemigo de los Judíos: y Mardoqueo vino delante del rey; porque Ester le declaró el parentesco que él tenía con ella.

On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her.

2 Y quitó el rey su anillo que había vuelto a tomar de Amán, y diólo a Mardoqueo: y Ester puso a Mardoqueo sobre la casa de Amán.

And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

3 Y volvió Ester, y habló delante del rey, y echóse a sus pies llorando, y rogándole que anulase la maldad de Amán Agageo, y su pensamiento que había pensado contra los Judíos.

And Esther spoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.

4 Y extendió el rey a Ester la vara de oro, y Ester se levantó, y se puso en pie delante del rey,

Then the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre. So Esther arose, and stood before the king.

5 Y dijo: Si place al rey, y si he hallado gracia delante de él, y si la cosa es recta delante del rey, y si yo soy buena en sus ojos, sea escrito para revocar las cartas del pensamiento de Amán, hijo de Amadata Agageo, que escribió para destruir a los Judíos, que están en todas las provincias del rey.

And she said: 'If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews that are in all the king's provinces;

6 Porque ¿cómo podré yo ver el mal que hallará a mi pueblo? ¿cómo podré yo ver la destrucción de mi nación?

for how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?'

7 Y respondió el rey Asuero a la reina Ester, y a Mardoqueo Judío: He aquí, yo di a Ester la casa de Amán, y a él colgaron en la horca, por cuanto extendió su mano contra los Judíos.

Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew: 'Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.

8 Escribíd pues vosotros a los Judíos como bien os pareciere, en nombre del rey, y selládlo con el anillo del rey: porque la escritura que se escribe en nombre del rey, y se sella con el anillo del rey, no es para revocarla.

Write ye also concerning the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring; for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse.'

9 Entonces fueron llamados los escribanos del rey en el mes tercero que es Siván, a los veinte y tres del mismo, y fue escrito, conforme a todo lo que mandó Mardoqueo, a los Judíos, y a los sátrapas, y a los capitanes, y a los príncipes de las provincias, que son desde la India hasta la Etiopía, ciento y veinte y siete provincias, a cada provincia según su escritura, y a cada pueblo conforme a su lengua, y a los Judíos conforme a su escritura y lengua.

Then were the king's scribes called at that time, in the third month, which is the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded concerning the Jews, even to the satraps, and the governors and princes of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, a hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.

10 Y escribió en nombre del rey Asuero, y selló con el anillo del rey, y envió las cartas por mano de correos de caballo, caballeros en mulos, en mulos hijos de yeguas:

And they wrote in the name of king Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, riding on swift steeds that were used in the king's service, bred of the stud;

11 Que el rey daba a los Judíos que estaban en todas las ciudades, y en cada una de ellas, que se juntasen, y se pusiesen en defensa de su vida; que destruyesen, y matasen, y deshiciesen todo ejército de pueblo o provincia que viniese contra ellos, niños y mujeres, y que los saqueasen,

that the king had granted the Jews that were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, and to slay, and to cause to perish, all the forces of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,

12 En un mismo día en todas las provincias del rey Asuero: a los trece del mes doceno, que es el mes de Adar.

upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.

13 La copia de la escritura era que se diese ley en cada provincia: Que fuese manifiesto a todos los pueblos, que los Judíos estuviesen apercebidos para aquel día, para vengarse de sus enemigos.

The copy of the writing, to be given out for a decree in every province, was to be published unto all the peoples, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

14 Los correos cabalgando en mulos, en mulos salieron apresurados, y constreñidos por el mandamiento del rey: y la ley fue dada en Susán la cabecera del reino.

So the posts that rode upon swift steeds that were used in the king's service went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment; and the decree was given out in Shushan the castle.

15 Y salió Mardoqueo de delante del rey con vestido real de cárdeno y blanco, y una gran corona de oro, y un manto de lino y púrpura: y la ciudad de Susán se alegró y regocijó.

And Mordecai went forth from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a rob of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan shouted and was glad.

16 Los Judíos tuvieron luz, y alegría, y gozo, y honra.

The Jews had light and gladness, and joy and honour.

17 Y en cada provincia, y en cada ciudad, donde llegó el mandamiento del rey, los Judíos tuvieron alegría y gozo, banquete y día de placer: y muchos de los pueblos de la tierra se hacían Judíos, porque el temor de los Judíos había caído sobre ellos.

And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness and joy, a feast and a good day. And many from among the peoples of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews was fallen upon them.
