Hechos 5
1 Mas un varón llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una posesión,
Now a man named Ananias, along with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property
2 Y defraudó parte del precio, sabiéndo lo también su mujer; y trayendo una parte, la depositó a los pies de los apóstoles.
and kept back some of the proceeds, with his wife also being aware of it. He brought a portion of the proceeds and laid it at the apostles' feet.
3 Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué hinchió Satanás tu corazón a que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y defraudases parte del precio de la heredad?
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled yoʋr heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back some of the proceeds of the plot of land?
4 Quedándose, ¿no se te quedaba a ti? y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué has concebido esta cosa en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios.
While it remained unsold, did it not remain yoʋrs? And once it was sold, was it not under yoʋr control? How is it that yoʋ have put this thing in yoʋr heart? Yoʋ have not lied to men but to God.”
5 Entonces Ananías, oyendo estas palabras, cayó, y espiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron.
When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last breath. And great fear came upon all who heard about it.
6 Y levantándose los mancebos, le tomaron; y sacándo le, le sepultaron.
Then the young men rose, wrapped up his body, carried him out, and buried him.
7 Y pasado el espacio como de tres horas, también su mujer entró, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido.
About three hours later, his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
8 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Díme. ¿Vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Si, en tanto.
Peter said to her, “Tell me if you sold the plot of land for such and such a price.” She said, “Yes, for such a price.”
9 Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os concertasteis para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido; y sacarte han a ti.
Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who buried yoʋr husband are at the door, and they will carry yoʋ out.”
10 Y luego cayó a los pies de él, y espiró; y entrados los mancebos, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido.
At once she fell down at his feet and breathed her last breath. When the young men came in, they found her dead, so they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
11 Y vino un gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que oyeron estas cosas.
And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard these things.
12 Y por las manos de los apóstoles eran hechos muchos milagros y prodigios en el pueblo; (y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón.
Now many signs and wonders were taking place among the people by the hands of the apostles, and all the believers were together with one accord in Solomon's portico.
13 Y de los otros, ninguno se osaba juntar con ellos; mas el pueblo los alababa grandemente.
No one else dared to join them, but the people held them in high regard.
14 Y los que creían en el Señor se aumentaban más, así de varones como de mujeres.)
Yet more and more people believed in the Lord and were added to their number, a multitude of both men and women.
15 Tanto, que echaban los enfermos por las calles, y los ponían en camas y en lechos, para que viniendo Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cayese sobre alguno de ellos.
As a result, people carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and mats, so that when Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on one of them.
16 Y aun de las ciudades vecinas concurría una multitud a Jerusalem, trayendo enfermos, y atormentados de espíritus inmundos: los cuales todos eran curados.
A multitude from the towns all around Jerusalem also gathered together, bringing the sick and those harassed by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
17 Entonces levantándose el sumo sacerdote, y todos los que estaban con él, (que es la secta de los Saduceos, ) fueron llenos de ira,
Then the high priest rose up, along with all who were with him (that is, the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy.
18 Y echaron mano a los apóstoles, y los pusieron en la cárcel pública.
So they arrested the apostles and put them in a public jail.
19 Mas el ángel del Señor, abriendo de noche las puertas de la cárcel, y sacándolos, dijo:
But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, brought them out, and said,
20 Id, y estando en el templo, hablád al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida.
“Go stand in the temple courts and tell the people everything about this new life.”
21 Ellos entonces, como oyeron esto, entraron por la mañana en el templo, y enseñaban. Viniendo pues el sumo sacerdote, y los que estaban con él, convocaron el concilio, y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel; y enviaron a la cárcel, para que fuesen traídos.
When they heard this, they entered the temple courts at dawn and began teaching. When the high priest came, along with those who were with him, they called together the Sanhedrin—that is, the entire eldership of the sons of Israel—and sent officers to the prison to have the apostles brought before them.
22 Y como vinieron los ministros, no los hallaron en la cárcel, y vueltos, dieron aviso,
But when the officers arrived, they did not find them in the prison. So they returned and reported,
23 Diciendo: Cierto la cárcel hallamos cerrada con toda diligencia, y los guardas que estaban afuera delante de las puertas; mas cuando abrímos, a nadie hallamos dentro.
“We found the prison locked up in complete security and the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened the doors, we found no one inside.”
24 Entonces como oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote, y el magistrado del templo, y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría a parar aquello.
When the high priest, the captain of the temple guard, and the chief priests heard this report, they were greatly perplexed by it, wondering what might come of this.
25 Y viniendo uno, les avisó, diciendo: He aquí, los varones que echasteis en la cárcel, están en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo.
Then someone came and told them, “Behold, the men you put in prison are standing in the temple courts teaching the people!”
26 Entonces el magistrado fue con los ministros, y los trajo sin violencia, porque tenían miedo del pueblo, de ser apedreados.
So the captain went with the officers and brought the apostles without the use of force, for they were afraid the people might stone them.
27 Y como los trajeron, los presentaron en el concilio. Entonces el sumo sacerdote les preguntó,
After bringing the apostles in, they had them stand before the Sanhedrin, and the high priest asked them,
28 Diciendo: ¿No os mandamos estrechamente, que no enseñaseis en este nombre? y, he aquí, habéis henchido a Jerusalem de vuestra doctrina, ¿y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre?
“Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? Yet behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you are determined to bring the blood of this man upon us.”
29 Y respondiendo Pedro y los otros apóstoles, dijeron: Es menester obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres.
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
30 El Dios de nuestros padres levantó a Jesús, al cual vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero.
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you murdered by hanging him on a cross.
31 A éste enalteció Dios con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y remisión de pecados.
God exalted him to his right hand as Leader and Savior to grant repentance to Israel and remission of sins.
32 Y nosotros le somos testigos de estas cosas, y lo es también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen.
Concerning these things we are his witnesses, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
33 Ellos en oyendo esto fueron heridos hasta el corazón, y consultaban de matarlos.
When they heard this, they were furious and resolved to put them to death,
34 Entonces levantándose en el concilio un Fariseo, llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerado de todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera un poco a los apóstoles,
but a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law who was held in honor by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and gave orders to put the apostles outside for a little while.
35 Y les dijo: Varones Israelitas, mirád por vosotros acerca de estos hombres en lo que habéis de hacer.
Then he said to the Sanhedrin, “Men of Israel, give careful consideration to what you are about to do to these men.
36 Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien; al cual se allegaron un número de varones, como de cuatrocientos, el cual fue muerto; y todos los que le creyeron, fueron disipados, y vueltos en nada.
For before these days Theudas rose up, declaring himself to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, responded to the call to join him. He was put to death, and all his followers were scattered and came to nothing.
37 Después de éste se levantó Júdas el Galileo en los días del empadronamiento; y llevó mucho pueblo tras sí. Pereció también éste, y todos los que consintieron con él fueron dispersos.
After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all his followers were scattered.
38 Y ahora os digo, dejáos de estos hombres, y dejádlos; porque si este consejo, o esta obra, es de los hombres, se desvanecerá;
So I say to you now, keep away from these men and leave them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of men, it will be stopped;
39 Mas si es de Dios, no la podréis deshacer; porque no parezca que queréis pelear contra Dios.
but if it is of God, you cannot put a stop to it. You will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
40 Y consintieron con él; y llamando a los apóstoles, habiéndo los azotado, les mandaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y los soltaron.
They were persuaded by him, and after calling in the apostles, they beat them, commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.
41 Mas ellos iban gozosos de delante del concilio, de que fuesen tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por el nombre de Jesús.
So the apostles went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of Jesus.
42 Y todos los días no cesaban en el templo, y por las casas, de enseñar, y de predicar a Jesu Cristo.
And every day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
