Hechos 28

1 Y como escaparon, entonces conocieron la isla, que se llamaba Melita.

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

2 Y los bárbaros nos trataban con no poca humanidad; porque encendiendo un gran fuego, nos recibieron a todos, a causa de la lluvia que nos estaba encima, y a causa del frío.

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

3 Entonces habiendo Pablo allegado algunos sarmientos, y puésto los en el fuego, una víbora huyendo del calor, le acometió a la mano.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid [them] on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

4 Y como los bárbaros vieron la bestia venenosa colgando de su mano, decían los unos a los otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida: a quien, aunque escapado de la mar, la venganza sin embargo no le deja vivir.

And when the barbarians saw the [venomous] beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

5 Mas él, sacudiendo la bestia en el fuego, ningún mal padeció.

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

6 Empero ellos estaban esperando, cuando se había de hinchar, o de caer muerto de repente; mas habiendo esperado mucho, y viendo que ningún mal le venía, mudados de parecer, decían que era un dios.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

7 En aquellos lugares había unas heredades del hombre principal de la isla, llamado Publio, el cual nos recibió, y nos hospedó tres días humanamente.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

8 Y aconteció, que el padre de Publio estaba en cama enfermo de fiebres y de disentería: al cual Pablo entró, y después de haber orado, le puso las manos encima, y le sanó.

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

9 Y esto hecho, también los otros que en la isla tenían enfermedades, llegaban, y fueron sanados:

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

10 Los cuales también nos honraron de muchas honras; y habiendo de navegar, nos cargaron de las cosas necesarias.

Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded [us] with such things as were necessary.

11 Así que pasados tres meses, navegamos en una nave Alejandrina, que había invernado en la isla, la cual tenía por enseña a Cástor y Pollux.

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

12 Y venidos a Siracusa, estuvimos allí tres días.

And landing at Syracuse, we tarried [there] three days.

13 De donde costeando al derredor, vinimos a Regio; y un día después ventando del austro, vinimos al segundo día a Puteoli:

And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

14 Donde hallando hermanos, nos rogaron que quedásemos con ellos siete días; y así vinimos hacia Roma:

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

15 De donde oyendo de nosotros los hermanos, nos salieron a recibir hasta el Foro de Appio, y las Tres Tabernas: a los cuales como Pablo vio, dando gracias a Dios, tomó confianza.

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

16 Y como llegamos a Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto de la guardia; mas a Pablo fue permitido de estar por sí, con un soldado que le guardase.

And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

17 Y aconteció, que tres días después, Pablo convocó los principales de los Judíos: a los cuales como fueron juntos, les dijo: Yo, varones y hermanos, no habiendo hecho nada contra el pueblo, ni contra las costumbres de los padres, he sido sin embargo entregado preso desde Jerusalem en manos de los Romanos:

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men [and] brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

18 Los cuales habiéndome examinado, me querían soltar, por no haber en mí ninguna causa de muerte.

Who, when they had examined me, would have let [me] go, because there was no cause of death in me.

19 Mas oponiéndose los Judíos, me fue forzoso de apelar a César: no como que tenga de qué acusar a mi nación.

But when the Jews spake against [it], I was constrained to appeal unto Cæsar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

20 Así que por esta causa os he llamado para ver os y hablar os; porque por la esperanza de Israel estoy atado con esta cadena.

For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see [you], and to speak with [you]: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

21 Entonces ellos le dijeron: Nosotros ni hemos recibido cartas en cuanto a ti de Judea, ni viniendo alguno de los hermanos nos ha noticiado ni hablado algún mal de ti.

And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

22 Mas querríamos oír de ti lo que piensas; porque de esta secta notorio nos es que en todos lugares es contradicha.

But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

23 Y habiéndole señalado un día, vinieron a él muchos a su alojamiento, a los cuales exponía y testificaba el reino de Dios, procurando persuadirles las cosas que son de Jesús por la ley de Moisés, y por los profetas, desde la mañana hasta la tarde.

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into [his] lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and [out of] the prophets, from morning till evening.

24 Y algunos asentían a lo que se decía, mas algunos no creían.

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

25 Y como fueron entre sí discordes, se fueron, después de haber les dicho Pablo una palabra: Bien ha hablado el Espíritu Santo por el profeta Isaías a nuestros padres,

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26 Diciendo: Vé a este pueblo, y dí les: Oyendo oiréis, y no entenderéis; y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis.

Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27 Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado, y de los oídos oyen pesadamente, y de sus ojos guiñaron; porque no vean de los ojos, y oigan de los oídos, y entiendan de corazón, y se conviertan, y yo los sane.

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

28 Séaos pues notorio, que a los Gentiles es enviada esta salvación de Dios; y que ellos la oirán.

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and [that] they will hear it.

29 Y habiendo dicho esto, los Judíos se salieron, y tenían entre sí gran contienda.

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

30 Pablo empero quedó dos años enteros en su casa que tenía alquilada; y recibía a todos los que entraban a él,

And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

31 Predicando el reino de Dios, y enseñando las cosas que son del Señor Jesu Cristo, con toda libertad, y sin impedimento.

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
