Hechos 23
1 Entonces Pablo, poniendo los ojos en el concilio, dijo: Varones y hermanos: yo con toda buena conciencia he vivido delante de Dios hasta el día de hoy.
Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, “Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until today.”
2 Y el sumo sacerdote, Ananías, mandó a los que estaban cerca de él que le hiriesen en la boca.
The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.
3 Entonces Pablo le dijo: Herirte ha Dios a ti, pared blanqueada; porque tú estas sentado para juzgarme conforme a la ley: ¿Y contra la ley me mandas herir?
Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”
4 Y los que estaban presentes dijeron: ¿Al sumo sacerdote de Dios vilipendias?
Those who stood by said, “Do you malign God’s high priest?”
5 Y Pablo dijo: No sabía yo, hermanos, que era el sumo sacerdote; porque escrito está: No hablarás mal del gobernador de tu pueblo.
Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”
6 Entonces Pablo, viendo que la una parte era de Saduceos, y la otra de Fariseos, clamó en el concilio: Varones y hermanos, yo Fariseo soy, hijo de Fariseo, de la esperanza y de la resurrección de los muertos soy yo juzgado.
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
7 Y como hubo dicho esto, fue hecha disensión entre los Fariseos y los Saduceos; y la multitud fue dividida.
When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the crowd was divided.
8 (Porque los Saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu; mas los Fariseos confiesan ambas cosas.)
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.
9 Hubo, pues, un gran clamor; y levantándose los escribas que estaban de la parte de los Fariseos, contendían, diciendo: Ningún mal hallamos en este hombre: que si algún espíritu le ha hablado, o un ángel, no peleemos contra a Dios.
A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”
10 Y habiendo grande disensión, el tribuno temiendo que Pablo no fuese despedazado por ellos, mandó venir soldados y arrebatarle de en medio de ellos, y llevar le a la fortaleza.
When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and bring him into the barracks.
11 Y la noche siguiente, presentándosele el Señor, le dijo: Confía Pablo: que como has testificado de mí en Jerusalem, así has de testificar también en Roma.
The following night, the Lord stood by him and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”
12 Y venido el día, algunos de los Judíos se juntaron, y prometieron debajo de maldición, diciendo, que ni comerían ni beberían hasta que hubiesen muerto a Pablo.
When it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.
13 Y eran más de cuarenta los que habían hecho esta conjuración:
There were more than forty people who had made this conspiracy.
14 Los cuales se fueron a los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y a los ancianos, y dijeron: Nosotros hemos hecho voto debajo de maldición, que no hemos de gustar nada hasta que hayamos muerto a Pablo.
They came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great curse to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.
15 Ahora pues vosotros con el concilio hacéd saber al tribuno, que le saque mañana a vosotros, como que queréis entender de él alguna cosa más cierta; y nosotros, antes que él llegue, estamos aparejados para matarle.
Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”
16 Entonces el hijo de la hermana de Pablo, oyendo de las asechanzas, vino, y entró en la fortaleza, y dio aviso a Pablo.
But Paul’s sister’s son heard they were lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.
17 Y Pablo llamando a uno de los centuriones, dijo: Lleva a este mancebo al tribuno, porque tiene cierto aviso que darle.
Paul summoned one of the centurions and said, “Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him.”
18 El entonces tomándole, le llevó al tribuno, y dijo: El preso Pablo llamándome, me rogó que trajese a ti este mancebo, que tiene algo que hablarte.
So he took him and brought him to the commanding officer and said, “Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to tell you.”
19 Y el tribuno tomándole de la mano, y apartándose aparte con él, le preguntó: ¿Qué es lo que tienes de que darme aviso?
The commanding officer took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”
20 Y él dijo: Los Judíos han concertado rogarte que mañana saques a Pablo al concilio, como que han de inquirir de él alguna cosa más cierta.
He said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though intending to inquire somewhat more accurately concerning him.
21 Mas tú no confíes de ellos; porque más de cuarenta varones de ellos le asechan, los cuales han hecho voto, debajo de maldición, de no comer ni beber hasta que le hayan muerto; y ahora están apercibidos esperando tu promesa.
Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”
22 Entonces el tribuno despidió al mancebo, mandándo le que a nadie dijese que le había dado aviso de esto.
So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”
23 Y llamados dos centuriones, les mandó que apercibiesen doscientos soldados, que fuesen hasta Cesarea, y setenta de a caballo, con doscientos lanceros para la tercera hora de la noche;
He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night.”
24 Y que aparejasen cabalgaduras para en que poniendo a Pablo, le llevasen en salvo a Félix el gobernador;
He asked them to provide mounts, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.
25 Escribiendo una carta que en suma contenía esto:
He wrote a letter like this:
26 Claudio Lisias a Félix gobernador excelente, salud.
“Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings.
27 A este varón, tomado por los Judíos, y que le comenzaban a matar, libré yo, sobreviniendo con una compañía de soldados, entendiendo que era Romano.
“This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.
28 Y queriendo saber la causa por qué le acusaban, le llevé al concilio de ellos.
Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council.
29 Y hallé que le acusaban de algunas cuestiones de la ley de ellos, mas que ningún crímen tenía digno de muerte, o de prisión.
I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.
30 Mas siéndome dado aviso de asechanzas que le habían aparejado los Judíos, en la misma hora le envié a ti: mandando también a los acusadores que traten delante de ti lo que tienen contra él. Bien hayas.
When I was told that the Jews lay in wait for the man, I sent him to you immediately, charging his accusers also to bring their accusations against him before you. Farewell.”
31 Entonces los soldados tomaron a Pablo, como les era mandado, y le trajeron de noche a Antipatris.
So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.
32 Y el día siguiente, dejando a los de a caballo que fuesen con él, se volvieron a la fortaleza.
But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.
33 Y como llegaron a Cesarea, y dieron la carta al gobernador, presentaron también a Pablo delante de él.
When they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.
34 Y el gobernador, leída la carta, preguntó de qué provincia era; y entendiendo que era de Cilicia:
When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,
35 Te oiré, dijo, cuando vinieren también tus acusadores. Y mandó que le guardasen en la audiencia de Heródes.
“I will hear you fully when your accusers also arrive.” He commanded that he be kept in Herod’s palace.
