1 Timoteo 5

1 Al anciano no reprendas con dureza, mas exhórta le como a padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos;

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat [him] as a father; [and] the younger men as brethren;

2 A las ancianas, como a madres; a las jóvenes, como a hermanas, con toda pureza:

The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

3 A las viudas honra, a las que de verdad son viudas:

Honour widows that are widows indeed.

4 Empero si alguna viuda tuviere hijos, o nietos, aprendan primero a manifestar la piedad en casa, y a recompensar a sus padres; porque esto es honesto y acepto delante de Dios.

But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

5 Y la que de verdad es viuda y solitaria, espera en Dios, y persiste en suplicaciones y oraciones noche y día.

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

6 Porque la que vive en delicias, viviendo está muerta.

But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

7 Denuncia pues estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles.

And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.

8 Mas si alguno no tiene cuidado de los suyos, y mayormente de los de su casa, ha negado la fe, y es peor que el infiel.

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

9 La viuda sea puesta en oficio siendo no menos que de sesenta años, la cual haya sido mujer de un varón:

Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

10 Que tenga testimonio en buenas obras; si ha criado hijos; si ha hospedado; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido a los que han padecido aflicción; si ha seguido toda buena obra.

Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

11 Mas a las viudas más mozas no admitas: que desde que han vivido disolutamente contra Cristo, quieren casarse:

But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;

12 Condenadas ya, por haber abandonado la primera fe.

Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

13 Y asimismo también son ociosas, enseñadas a andar de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, empero aun parleras y curiosas, parlando lo que no conviene.

And withal they learn [to be] idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

14 Quiero, pues, que las mozas se casen, paran hijos, gobiernen la casa, y que ninguna ocasión den al adversario para decir mal.

I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

15 Porque ya algunas han vuelto atrás en pos de Satanás.

For some are already turned aside after Satan.

16 Y si alguno, o alguna de los creyentes tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea cargada la iglesia; para que pueda socorrer a las que de verdad son viudas.

If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

17 Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doblada honra; y mayormente los que trabajan en la palabra y doctrina.

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

18 Que la Escritura dice: No embozalarás al buey que trilla. Y: Digno es el obrero de su jornal.

For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer [is] worthy of his reward.

19 Contra el anciano no recibas acusación, sino ante dos o tres testigos.

Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

20 A los que pecaren repréndelos delante de todos, para que los otros también teman.

Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

21 Te requiero delante de Dios, y del Señor Jesu Cristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin preocupación, que nada hagas por parcialidad.

I charge [thee] before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

22 No impongas ligeramente las manos sobre alguno, ni seas participante en pecados ajenos: consérvate puro a ti mismo.

Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.

23 No bebas de aquí adelante agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa del estómago, y de tus continuas enfermedades.

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

24 Los pecados de algunos hombres son manifiestos ya, yendo delante de ellos a juicio: a otros les vienen después.

Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some [men] they follow after.

25 Asimismo también las buenas obras de algunos son manifiestas de antemano; y las que son de otra manera, no se pueden esconder.

Likewise also the good works [of some] are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise can not be hid.
