1 Samuel 17
1 Y los Filisteos juntaron sus ejércitos para la guerra, y congregáronse en Soco, que es en Judá, y asentaron campo entre Soco y Azeca en el término de Donmim.
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
2 Y también Saul y los varones de Israel se juntaron, y asentaron el campo en el valle del Alcornoque: y ordenaron la batalla contra los Filisteos.
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched in the vale of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
3 Y los Filisteos estaban sobre el un monte de la una parte, e Israel estaba sobre el otro monte de la otra parte; y el valle estaba entre ellos.
And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side; and there was a valley between them.
4 Y salió un varón del campo de los Filisteos entre los dos campos, el cual se llamaba Goliat de Get, y tenía de altura seis codos y un palmo.
And there went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 Y traía un almete de acero en su cabeza, vestido de unas corazas de planchas: y el peso de las corazas tenía cinco mil siclos de metal.
And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
6 Y sobre sus pies traía grebas de hierro, y un escudo de acero en sus hombros.
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
7 El hasta de su lanza era como un enjullo de un telar, y el hierro de su lanza tenía seiscientos siclos de hierro, y su escudero iba delante de él.
And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and his shield-bearer went before him.
8 Y paróse, y dio voces a los escuadrones de Israel, diciéndoles: ¿Para qué salís a dar batalla? ¿No soy yo el Filisteo, y vosotros los siervos de Saul? Escogéd un varón de vosotros que venga contra mí.
And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them: 'Why do ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
9 Si él pudiere pelear conmigo, y me venciere, nosotros seremos vuestros siervos. Y si yo pudiere más que él, y le venciere, vosotros seréis nuestros siervos, y nos serviréis.
If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.'
10 Y añadió el Filisteo: Yo he deshonrado hoy el campo de Israel: dádme varón que pelee conmigo.
And the Philistine said: 'I do taunt the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.'
11 Y oyendo Saul y todo Israel estas palabras del Filisteo, fueron espantados, y hubieron gran miedo.
And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
12 Y David era hijo de un varón Éufrateo de Belén de Judá, cuyo nombre era Isaí, el cual tenía ocho hijos: y era este hombre en el tiempo de Saul viejo, y de grande edad entre los hombres.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons; and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.
13 Y los tres hijos mayores de Isaí habían ido a seguir a Saul en la guerra. Y los nombres de sus tres hijos, que habían ido a la guerra eran, Eliab el primogénito: el segundo Abinadab: y el tercero Samma.
And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14 Y David era el menor. Y habiendo ido los tres mayores tras Saul,
And David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul. —
15 David había ido y vuelto de con Saul, para apacentar las ovejas de su padre en Belén.
Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Beth-lehem. —
16 Venía pues aquel Filisteo por la mañana y a la tarde, y presentábase por cuarenta días.
And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 E Isaí dijo a David su hijo: Toma ahora para tus hermanos un efa de esta cebada tostada, y estos diez panes, y llévalo presto al campo a tus hermanos.
And Jesse said unto David his son: 'Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brethren.
18 Y estos diez quesos de leche llevarás al capitán, y vé a ver a tus hermanos, si están buenos, y tomarás prendas de ellos.
And bring these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and to thy brethren shalt thou bring greetings, and take their pledge;
19 Y Saul, y ellos, y todos los de Israel estaban al valle del Alcornoque peleando con los Filisteos.
now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, are in the vale of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.'
20 Y David se levantó de mañana, y dejando las ovejas a la guarda, cargóse y fuése, como Isaí le mandó: y vino a la trinchera al ejército, el cual había salido a la ordenanza, y ya tocaban alarma en batalla.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the barricade, as the host which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
21 Porque así los Israelitas como los Filisteos estaban en ordenanza, escuadrón contra escuadrón.
And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
22 Y David dejó la carga de sobre sí en mano del que guardaba el bagaje, y corrió al escuadrón, y como llegó, preguntaba por sus hermanos, si estaban buenos.
And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brethren.
23 Y estando él hablando con ellos, he aquí aquel varón que se ponía en medio de los dos campos, que se llamaba Goliat, Filisteo de Get, que subía de los escuadrones de los Filisteos, hablando las mismas palabras, las cuales David oyó.
And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words; and David heard them.
24 Y todos los varones de Israel que veían aquel varón, huían delante de él, y tenían gran temor.
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
25 Y cada uno de los de Israel decía: ¿No habéis visto a aquel varón que sube? él sube para deshonrar a Israel. Al que le venciere, el rey le enriquecerá de grandes riquezas, y le dará su hija, y hará franca la casa de su padre en Israel.
And the men of Israel said: 'Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to taunt Israel is he come up; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.'
26 Entonces habló David a los que estaban a par de él, diciendo: ¿Qué harán a aquel varón que venciere a este Filisteo, y quitare la deshonra de Israel? Porque ¿quién es este Filisteo incircunciso, para que deshonre los escuadrones del Dios viviente?
And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying: 'What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the taunt from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should have taunted the armies of the living God?'
27 Y el pueblo le respondió las mismas palabras, diciendo: Así se hará al tal varón que le venciere.
And the people answered him after this manner, saying: 'So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.'
28 Y oyéndole hablar Eliab su hermano mayor con aquellos varones, Eliab se encendió en ira contra David, y dijo: ¿Para qué has descendido acá? ¿y a quién has dejado aquellas pocas ovejas en el desierto? Yo conozco tu soberbia y la malicia de tu corazón, que para ver la batalla has venido.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said: 'Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumptuousness, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.'
29 Y David respondió: ¿Qué he hecho ahora? ¿Estas, no son palabras?
And David said: 'What have I now done? Was it not but a word?'
30 Y apartándose de él hacia otros, habló lo mismo, y respondiéronle los del pueblo como primero.
And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner; and the people answered him after the former manner.
31 Y fueron oídas las palabras que David había dicho, las cuales fueron recitadas delante de Saul: y él le hizo venir.
And when the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he was taken to him.
32 Y dijo David a Saul: No desmaye ninguno a causa de él, tu siervo irá, y peleará con este Filisteo.
And David said to Saul: 'Let no man's heart fail within him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.'
33 Y dijo Saul a David: No podrás tú ir contra aquel Filisteo para pelear con él, porque tú eres mozo, y él es hombre de guerra desde su juventud.
And Saul said to David: 'Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.'
34 Y David respondió a Saul: Tu siervo era pastor en las ovejas de su padre, y venía un león, o un oso, y tomaba algún cordero de la manada;
And David said unto Saul: 'Thy servant kept his father's sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,
35 Y salía yo tras él, y heríale, y escapába le de su boca: y si se levantaba contra mí, yo le echaba mano de la quijada, y le hería y mataba.
I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Fuese león, fuese oso, tu siervo le mataba; pues este Filisteo incircunciso será como uno de ellos, porque ha deshonrado al ejército del Dios viviente.
Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath taunted the armies of the living God.'
37 Y añadió David: Jehová que me ha librado de mano de león, y de mano de oso, él también me librará de la mano de este Filisteo. Y dijo Saul a David: Vé, y Jehová sea contigo.
And David said: 'The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.' And Saul said unto David: 'Go, and the LORD shall be with thee.'
38 Y Saul vistió a David de sus ropas, y puso sobre su cabeza un almete de acero, y vistióle corazas.
And Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
39 Y ciñó David su espada sobre sus vestidos, y probó a andar: porque nunca lo había experimentado. Y dijo David a Saul: Yo no puedo andar con esto, porque nunca lo experimenté. Y echando de si David aquellas cosas,
And David girded his sword upon his apparel, and he essayed to go, but could not; for he had not tried it. And David said unto Saul: 'I cannot go with these; for I have not tried them.' And David put them off him.
40 Tomó su cayado en su mano, y tomóse cinco piedras lisas del arroyo, y púsolas en el saco pastoril, y en el zurrón que traía, y fuése, su honda en su mano, hacia el Filisteo.
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag which he had, even in his scrip; and his sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 Y el Filisteo venía andando y acercándose a David, y su escudero delante de él.
And the Philistine came nearer and nearer unto David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
42 Y como el Filisteo miró, y vio a David, túvole en poco, porque era mancebo, y rojo, y de hermoso parecer.
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance.
43 Y dijo el Filisteo a David: ¿Soy yo perro que vienes a mí con palos? Y maldijo a David por sus dioses.
And the Philistine said unto David: 'Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?' And the Philistine cursed David by his god.
44 Y dijo el Filisteo a David: Ven a mí, y daré tu carne a las aves del cielo, y a las bestias del campo.
And the Philistine said to David: 'Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.'
45 Y David dijo al Filisteo: Tú vienes a mí con espada, y lanza, y escudo; mas yo vengo a ti en el nombre de Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de los escuadrones de Israel, que tú has deshonrado.
Then said David to the Philistine: 'Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast taunted.
46 Jehová pues te entregará hoy en mi mano, y yo te venceré, y quitaré tu cabeza de ti: y daré los cuerpos de los Filisteos hoy a las aves del cielo, y a las bestias de la tierra, y sabrá toda la tierra, que hay Dios en Israel.
This day will the LORD deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel;
47 Y toda esta congregación sabrá, que Jehová no salva con espada y lanza; porque de Jehová es la guerra, y él os entregará en nuestras manos.
and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD'S, and He will give you into our hand.'
48 Y aconteció, que como el Filisteo se levantó para ir y llegarse contra David, David se dio priesa y corrió al combate contra el Filisteo.
And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 Y metiendo David su mano en el saco, tomó de allí una piedra, y tirósela con la honda, e hirió al Filisteo en la frente: y la piedra quedó hincada en su frente, y cayó en tierra sobre su rostro.
And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 Y así venció David al Filisteo con honda y piedra: e hirió al Filisteo, y matóle, sin tener David espada en su mano.
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Entonces corrió David, y púsose sobre el Filisteo, y tomando su espada, y sacándola de su vaina, le mató, y cortóle con ella la cabeza. Y como los Filisteos vieron su gigante muerto, huyeron.
And David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their mighty man was dead, they fled.
52 Y levantándose los de Israel y de Judá, dieron grita, y siguieron a los Filisteos hasta llegar al valle, y hasta las puertas de Accarón. Y cayeron heridos de los Filisteos por el camino de Saraim hasta Get, y Accarón.
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
53 Y tornando los hijos de Israel de seguir los Filisteos, robaron su campo.
And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camp.
54 Y David tomó la cabeza del Filisteo, y trájola a Jerusalem, y puso sus armas en su tienda.
And David took the head of the philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 Mas cuando Saul vio a David que salía a encontrarse con el Filisteo, dijo a Abner el general del ejército: Abner; ¿cúyo hijo es aquel mancebo? Y Abner respondió:
And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host: 'Abner, whose son is this youth?' And Abner said: 'As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.'
56 Vive tu alma, oh rey, que no lo sé. Y el rey dijo: Pregunta, pues, cúyo hijo es aquel mancebo.
And the king said: 'Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.'
57 Y cuando David volvía de matar al Filisteo, Abner le tomó, y le llevó delante de Saul teniendo la cabeza del Filisteo en su mano.
And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Y díjole Saul: Mancebo, ¿cúyo hijo eres? Y David respondió: Yo soy hijo de tu siervo Isaí de Belén.
And Saul said to him: 'Whose son art thou, thou young man?' And David answered: 'I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.'
