Deuteronomio 29
1 Estas son las palabras de la alianza que Yahvé ordenó a Moisés que hiciera con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además de la alianza que hizo con ellos en Horeb.
These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
2 Moisés llamó a todo Israel y les dijo Vuestros ojos han visto todo lo que Yahvé hizo en la tierra de Egipto a Faraón, y a todos sus siervos, y a toda su tierra;
Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
3 las grandes pruebas que vieron vuestros ojos, las señales y esos grandes prodigios.
the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.
4 Pero Yahvé no os ha dado hasta hoy corazón para conocer, ojos para ver y oídos para oír.
But the LORD has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
5 Te he conducido cuarenta años por el desierto. Tus ropas no se han envejecido en ti, y tus sandalias no se han envejecido en tus pies.
I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
6 No has comido pan, ni has bebido vino o bebida fuerte, para que sepas que yo soy Yahvé, tu Dios.
You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.
7 Cuando llegaste a este lugar, Sijón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a combatir contra nosotros, y los derrotamos.
When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
8 Tomamos su tierra y la dimos en herencia a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de los manasitas.
We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
9 Guardad, pues, las palabras de este pacto y ponedlas por obra, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hagáis.
Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
10 Todos ustedes están hoy en presencia del Señor, su Dios: vuestros jefes, vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos y vuestros oficiales, todos los hombres de Israel,
All of you stand today in the presence of the LORD your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
11 vuestros pequeños, vuestras mujeres y los extranjeros que están en medio de vuestros campamentos, desde el que corta vuestra leña hasta el que saca vuestra agua,
your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the middle of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water,
12 para que entréis en la alianza de Yahvé vuestro Dios y en su juramento, que Yahvé vuestro Dios hace hoy con vosotros,
that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD your God, and into his oath, which the LORD your God makes with you today,
13 para que os establezca hoy como su pueblo, y para que sea vuestro Dios, como os habló y como juró a vuestros padres, a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob.
that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14 No hago este pacto y este juramento sólo con vosotros,
Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
15 sino con los que están hoy aquí con nosotros ante Yahvé, nuestro Dios, y también con los que no están hoy aquí con nosotros
but with those who stand here with us today before the LORD our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
16 (porque vosotros sabéis cómo vivíamos en la tierra de Egipto, y cómo pasamos por en medio de las naciones por las que pasasteis;
(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
17 y habéis visto sus abominaciones y sus ídolos de madera, piedra, plata y oro, que había entre ellos);
and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were amongst them);
18 no sea que haya entre vosotros un hombre, una mujer, una familia o una tribu cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Yahvé nuestro Dios para ir a servir a los dioses de esas naciones; no sea que haya entre vosotros una raíz que produzca un veneno amargo;
lest there should be amongst you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be amongst you a root that produces bitter poison;
19 y suceda que cuando oiga las palabras de esta maldición, se bendiga en su corazón diciendo: “Tendré paz, aunque ande en la terquedad de mi corazón”, para destruir lo húmedo con lo seco.
and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
20 Yahvé no lo perdonará, sino que la ira de Yahvé y sus celos humearán contra ese hombre, y caerá sobre él toda la maldición que está escrita en este libro, y Yahvé borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo.
The LORD will not pardon him, but then the LORD’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under the sky.
21 Yahvé lo apartará para el mal de entre todas las tribus de Israel, según todas las maldiciones del pacto escritas en este libro de la ley.
The LORD will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
22 La generación venidera — tus hijos que se levantarán después de ti, y el extranjero que vendrá de una tierra lejana — dirá, cuando vea las plagas de esa tierra y las enfermedades con que Yahvé la ha enfermado
The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick,
23 que toda su tierra es azufre, sal y ardor, que no se siembra, no produce, ni crece en ella hierba alguna, como el derrocamiento de Sodoma, Gomorra, Adma y Zeboiim, que Yahvé derrocó en su ira y en su furor.
that all of its land is sulphur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
24 Incluso todas las naciones dirán: “¿Por qué el Señor ha hecho esto a esta tierra? ¿Qué significa el calor de esta gran ira?”
Even all the nations will say, “Why has the LORD done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
25 Entonces los hombres dirán: “Porque abandonaron la alianza de Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres, que hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto,
Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
26 y fueron a servir a otros dioses y los adoraron, dioses que no conocían y que él no les había dado.
and went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
27 Por lo tanto, la ira del Señor se encendió contra esta tierra, para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones que están escritas en este libro.
Therefore the LORD’s anger burnt against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
28 Yahvé los desarraigó de su tierra con ira, con enojo y con gran indignación, y los arrojó a otra tierra, como sucede hoy.”
The LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
29 Las cosas secretas pertenecen a Yahvé, nuestro Dios; pero las cosas reveladas nos pertenecen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, para que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta ley.
The secret things belong to the LORD our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
