Job 21
1 Job contestó:
Then Job answered,
2 “Por favor, escuchen atentamente lo que digo; eso sería un consuelo que podrían darme.
“Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.
3 Tengan paciencia conmigo; déjenme hablar. Después de que haya habladao, pueden seguir burlándose de mí.
Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.
4 ¿Me estoy quejando de la gente? Por supuesto que no. ¿Por qué no debería estar impaciente?
As for me, is my complaint to man? Why should not I be impatient?
5 Mírenme. ¿No están horrorizados? Tápense la boca con la mano en señal de asombro.
Look at me, and be astonished. Lay your hand on your mouth.
6 Cada vez que pienso en lo que me ha pasado me horrorizo y tiemblo de miedo.
When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.
7 “¿Por qué siguen viviendo los malvados, que envejecen y son cada vez más poderosos?
“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?
8 Sus hijos están con ellos; ven crecer a sus nietos.
Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes.
9 Viven en sus casas con seguridad; no tienen miedo. Dios no usa su vara para golpearlos.
Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
10 Sus toros siempre crían con éxito; sus vacas paren terneros y no abortan.
Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and do not miscarry.
11 Sacan a jugar a sus pequeños como si fueran corderos; sus niños bailan alrededor.
They send out their little ones like a flock. Their children dance.
12 Cantan acompañados de la pandereta y la lira; celebran con la música de la flauta.
They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol (Sheol h7585).
14 Sin embargo, le dicen a Dios: ‘¡Vete lejos! No queremos saber nada de ti.
They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we do not want to know about your ways.
15 ¿Quién se cree el Todopoderoso para que le sirvamos como esclavos? ¿Qué beneficio hay para nosotros si le oramos?’
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’
16 Esa gente cree que hace su propia fortuna, pero yo no acepto su forma de pensar.
Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
17 “Cuántas veces se apaga la lámpara de los malvados? ¿Cuántas veces les sobreviene el desastre? ¿Cuántas veces castiga Dios a los impíos en su cólera?
“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out, that their calamity comes on them, that God distributes sorrows in his anger?
18 ¿Son arrastrados como paja en el viento? ¿Viene un tornado y se los lleva?
How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?
19 Algunos dicen: ‘Dios guarda el castigo de la gente para sus hijos’. Pero yo digo: ‘Dios debería castigar a esas personas para que aprendan de ello’.
You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’ Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.
20 Que ellos mismos vean su destrucción y beban profundamente de la ira de Dios.
Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
21 Porque no les importará lo que les ocurra a sus familias una vez que hayan muerto.
For what does he care for his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?
22 “¿Puede alguien enseñarle a Dios algo que no sepa ya, puesto que él es quien juzga incluso a los seres celestiales?
“Shall any teach God knowledge, since he judges those who are high?
23 Una persona muere con buena salud, totalmente cómoda y segura.
One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
24 Su cuerpo está gordo por haber comido bien; sus huesos aún son fuertes.
His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened.
25 Otro muere después de una vida miserable sin haber experimentado la felicidad.
Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.
26 Sin embargo, ambos son enterrados en el mismo polvo; son tratados de igual manera en la muerte, comidos por los gusanos.
They lie down alike in the dust. The worm covers them.
27 “Sé lo que piensan y sus planes para hacerme mal.
“Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me.
28 Pueden preguntarme: ‘¿Dónde está la casa del gran hombre? ¿Dónde está el lugar donde viven los malvados?’
For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’
29 ¿No le han preguntado a los viajeros? ¿No le prestan atención a lo que dicen?
Have not you asked wayfaring men? Do not you know their evidences,
30 La gente malvada se salva en tiempos de desastre; es rescatada del día del juicio.
that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?
31 ¿Quién cuestiona sus acciones? ¿Quién les paga por lo que han hecho?
Who will declare his way to his face? Who will repay him what he has done?
32 Cuando finalmente mueren y son llevados al cementerio, su tumba está custodiada. La tierra de la tumba los cubre suavemente.
Yet he will be borne to the grave. Men will keep watch over the tomb.
33 Todo el mundo asiste a sus funerales; una enorme procesión de gente viene a presentar sus últimos respetos.
The clods of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will draw after him, as there were innumerable before him.
34 ¿Por qué tratan de consolarme con tonterías? Sus respuestas no son más que una sarta de mentiras!”
So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”
